Many time lords choose a name when they venture out into the universe with their TARDIS, a name that often represents who they are or what they want to achieve. The Doctor essentially wants to heal the universe. The Master wants to rule the universe. They are both old friends to some extent but they are also rivals. There are also others like The Corsair or The Rani.

These were the first packs I've opened in years that actually were fun to crack. Surge foils look cool, so much usable stuff.

Love the box opening, keep them coming if you’re gonna be cracking packs anyway.

Yes the Second Card of every pack will always be a Doctor and can be traditional or Surge Foil. Don’t think it can be extended art though. The final non token card is always a Foil Showcase but the serialised card will only be traditional, not surge foil.

The problem with collector booster-only sets is that commons/uncommons are the real rares since you only get a couple per pack.

In case no one in the comments said it, Time Lords have a unique racial quirk where, when they would die, they regenerate almost as an entirely different person, but with the memories of their previous incarnations. The Doctor is one Time Lord and each Doctor is in a different phase of their life, each with a different face and personality. The Master is a Time Lord in much the same way, but instead of being ordered like the Doctor's incarnations, they're just... "The Master". There are some other Time Lords in the set (Rassilon, Romana, Susan Foreman, etc.), but there's no connective tissue between them like there are between the Doctors and the Masters. These cards are *rich* with Who lore, both blatant and obscure.

I came back to this video for a laugh after watching the Ravnica Remastered and I just noticed that Missy is a Rare. Is this the first time a precon's backup Commander is a Rare and not Mythic Rare? Love the vid & all the Snarling Seth does! 😂

So, brief explanation of the other Time Lords. Time Lord is a subset of the Gallifreyan race, the alien species that the Doctor belongs to. They almost all have TARDISes, and as such, they can all travel through time. They also can regenerate, just like the Doctor, which is why there's multiple versions of The Master. The Master is basically an "evil" Time Lord, a rival of The Doctor.

Does it matter if those cards are marked as "rares" while they're basically 1 offs in a commander deck? They could as well be marked uncommons and it wouldn't change much.
