RTD's stories in his original run were pretty much the Invasion story from the 2nd Doctor. He used the human betraying humanity constantly.

The Ruby Road thing reminds me of an old joke. An Indian Chief is showing a visitor around the village. He greets another Indian "Morning Rainbow". He explains to the visitor "When I am told a child has been born into the village I name them after the first thing I see ... Hey! Stop that two dogs F~~king!"

Ruby's mom wearing a cloak is something NuWho has often been guilty of -- characters looking a certain way or events happening a certain way for no other reason than to artificially pump up suspense. As you noted, once we get the full context, it makes absolutely no sense for her to be dressed that way -- it was just done because in Ep 1, we don't know who she is and the cloak makes her look mysterious. It's Scooby-Doo level shit. Ruby's mom (from her POV) has no reason to look mysterious; she looks that way for the AUDIENCE'S SAKE, not the STORY'S SAKE. That's called breaking the 4th wall -- the work of fiction either directly or indirectly becoming aware that it's "just a play being watched by an audience." Moffat was particularly guilty of this nonsense -- often setting up rules so the current episode works, then abandoning said rules a few episodes later so THAT episode could work. Case in point: In _"The Eleventh Hour,"_ the crack in Amy's wall is described as being a fissure between our universe and a parallel one, and Prisoner Zero has escaped into our universe through the crack. But in _"The Time of Angels,"_ the crack is now a fissure in time itself, and getting too close to it erases you from existence. Amy doesn't remember the Clerics as they get swallowed up, but for some reason still remembers her own family in _"The Eleventh Hour,"_ despite THEM also being swallowed up. In _"Cold Blood,"_ the Doctor reaches into the crack and pulls out a piece of the TARDIS -- outright defying the rules Moffat had setup earlier in the season -- just so we can have this dramatic ending where the Doctor realizes it's part of his TARDIS. I could go on on... The point is that SO MUCH of NuWho is written for dramatic effect, not internal consistency.

Gave up at the start of ep 2 to be honest. The trailers that promised cabaret and music numbers every week makes it amazing I lasted that long. The presence of Disney paw prints destroying another legendary franchise are all too obvious. Either sell them all to people that care or space all of your "writers".

The worst part is always the few people that are fully in cope mode that will try to make excuses for this shit show and are in full denial of just how bad things are. The last ep had me hooked it was doctor who and I was all in again I was looking forward all the week to this ep it was all could talk about the excitement was back. I had so many questions how's the doctor gonna get out of this? what's Ruby hidden power? how's the doctor gonna get the tardis back? are the other gods gonna back up sutekh? How does Mrs Flood connect to the doctor? so many different theories running in my head I felt let a kid again watching classic who for the first time could wait for the next ep. and I was like all the crap we went through for no pay off. I'm crushed 30 years of following doctor who and I'm done no more RIP Doctor who.
