Doctor Who | Episode 9x10 Reaction & Review | "Face the Raven"

Ashildr was planning on removing the tattoo from Rigsy. She was able to do that since that was the original deal. Once Clara took it, she cut Ashildr out of the deal. She could only remove it from Rigsy. She wasn’t going to kill him, it was all a trap for the Doctor.

i think that the whole "don't run" thing doesn't have anything to do with the way you'll die, it's just an emotional thing. I think it means "die peacefully with the people you love instead of running and being scared". That's why the doctor says to clara "don't run, stay with me" (THE TEARS, BTW); he just wanted to comfort her and be there for her as she died. ps: welcome back!

I don't understand how anyone could see the devastation on Me's face when she realises Clara has the chronolock and think she had bad intentions. She truly didn't intend for anyone to get hurt (other than possibly the Doctor, as far as she knows), she was always planning to save Riggsy, she just needed him to lure the Doctor into the trap. Of course I'm not saying she's a wholly good person, but in this situation she was clearly terrified of whatever entity she struck that deal with, and chose to sacrifice the Doctor over the many people in her care, who it's implied would have been killed if she had refused. And I'm using the phrase "in her care" deliberately, because it's something the Doctor constantly refers to this series - his duty of care over Clara. Because I think Me's role here is to be a mirror of the Doctor. They're both immortals with mortals in their care. As he would go to extremes to protect Clara (see: "You will save Clara ... or I will rain hell on you for the rest of time"), she would go to extremes to protect her street and the people on it (who, incidentally, are refugees with nowhere else to go). Also the thing about the guy saying "don't run, stay with her" about the other guy who the shade is going to kill. It's not that it will make a difference to whether or not he'll die, it's that he and his wife/lover/whatever she is would spend his last moments relatively peacefully together, rather than separated and terrified.

Honestly, this episode always reminds me of something Davros said back in season 4. "You take ordinary people and you fashion them (into weapons)". Well, I think this is a step beyond that. When the companions want to BE the Doctor and start to actually act like him. They get the worst end of the stick, every time, just like Donna. Just like Clara.

The natural culmination of the Clara/Doctor arc here really. As has been strongly hinted since 12 arrived but especially back in 8x09 (when we first met Rigsy), Clara made a "good Doctor" - as per "The Zygon Inversion", they've been a huge influence on each other - but she forgot the big difference between them - the Doctor's a lot less fragile (and even then, he's died many times). (good to see you back BTW - absolutely no pressure of course but I do hope it's not as long before the next one makes it to RU-vid, just because it's such an absolute corker :)

Yeah the ended doesnt feel like it should be real because its not the series finale but here we are

This is such a good heartbreaking episode Capaldi played this so well, so dark, Maisie (Me's actress) said he actually scared her while filming Capaldi is amazing. Clara is my fav companion and this was heartbreaking but wow this death fit her character and she had developed so much. Beautiful death. Horrible but beautiful.

I've only run into your reactions today. Lovely! I'm revisiting series through the eyes of others and came upon this! FWIW, I watched when it was new and it was known that Jenna Coleman was leaving at some point because she got the lead in Victoria. They kept hinting at her death the more she became like the doctor. We just didn't know when.

So excited to see a new upload from you- especially with it being this episode! I definitely had very similar reactions when i first saw this episode- especially since Clara was one of my favorite companions at this point. This whole season stressed me out with Moffat continually toying around with Clara potentially dying each episode only for it to not happen that I think it makes the denial even stronger in this episode because weve justbeen through it so many times already this season and every time there's been a way out in the end. Looking forward to catching more reactions from you (no pressure though - I completely understand needing time for the rest of life first and foremost)

fantastic reaction, the genuine surprise that comes with this episode is always so sad 😭 for context, although Clara’s end is unexpected, they do drip feed the idea throughout the series that Clara has gone off the rails, willing to risk her life, completely reckless, and we never see any segments of her home life anymore because essentially none of that matters to her now - unless she’s running on adrenaline with the Doctor, we dont see her, because she’s dependent on that excitement to get her by :( I’ve not seen anyone talk about the stasis chamber theory before, that was a very good point!! but I think it comes under the same umbrella as “you cant cheat death” which is the reason Clara died in the end. while I dont believe Me did this with intent to harm (she was about to remove Rigsy’s tattoo so he would’ve been saved, those were the terms, he was essentially just bait for the Doctor) I think her trusting of “them” is misplaced given that after the lives she’s lived, she should know anyone trying to trap and lure the Doctor fails miserably, so why put trust in someone else trying to do that? why would she guarantee Clara’s safety in the firstplace? my biggest gripe with this episode, plot wise, is I just WISH someone had explained the reason people dont just give out their chronolock tattoos. I wish the Doctor had referenced the risk associated with that, or that Me had made some silly joke about “well as long as she doesnt take his chronolock, she’ll be fine” because I feel like the fact of giving a chronolock to someone else makes it absolute and impossible to remove is…a bit of an oversight amongst the two characters who have lived hundreds of years?? I still absolutely adore this episode and Clara is without a doubt my favourite companion, and I think my gripe with the episode can be put down to Clara not asking the Doctor questions like she used to because she’s only interested in immediate action, acting on a whim, doing what she thinks the Doctor would do but from a less knowledgeable and more fragile place. but strap yourself in for next episode, it’s my favourite episode of the show of all time and my GOD is it beautiful!! 🤩🤩

Hello it’s been soooooo long

When will the next Doctor Who reaction be?

Me and Clara seem to represent sides of the doctor that don’t work in regular human lives. They screwed up in getting so confident. I don’t know if it was the writers’ intention to show how those of us without “plot armor” can never do those reckless things The Doctor does. We humans are fragile things. It reminds me of a certain other show’s end. People can be clever, competent and reckless only to a point. The next episode remains my favorite.

I think Ashildr/ Mi was scared of "Them" and didn't have much in the way of choice in terms of sending the Doctor off somewhere. She really didn't have any idea that Clara would take the Chronolock, and from there, her hands were tied.

Jenna Coleman wanted to leave the show because she had an even bigger role to play - Queen Victoria. Think that show might be of interest to the reactor.

The problem with thinking you can be the Doctor is that he’s got two hearts, thousands of years of experience, a hyper conductive nervous system, and like 57 brains or something like that. Humans really are stupid by comparison.

I adore Clara. It’s so sad that ever since Danny’s death the Clara we see in series 9 has just been a sad, directionless, reckless character who doesn’t care whether she dies or not as the doctor is merely just a distraction from a life without Danny. Somebody she can use as escapism from earth. She’s deeply depressed and it really comes to a head in this episode. That ‘yeh fine, it’s caught up with me at last, I’m going to die but maybe this is what I wanted all along’. It’s bloody sad. I don’t think we’ve had that before aside from maybe Donna in turn left
