As recommended in 'Doctor Who Magazine' Issue 433 and 'The Guardian', this is a personal and affectionate tribute to Nicholas Courtney - a wonderful man who passed away on 22nd February 2011, leaving behind him a legacy of love and affection in the hearts of thousands of fans. After 40 years playing the same character - from 1968 to 2008 - he charmed and enthralled generations of viewers. A huge presence in my childhood, the Brigadier was just as much a part of me as the Doctor was. And with the death of Nicholas Courtney a little bit of my childhood died with him. God bless Nick and a heartfelt salute to the Brigadier. Lest we ever forget....
For the benefit of so many Nick Courtney fans who have asked me the same question: the music is a cover of Evanescence's single 'My Immortal', performed by Gregorian.

The biggest crime in all of Doctor Who history was that there was never any Brigadeer appearances in New who, considering he appeared in The Sarah Jane Adventures it must have meant he was healthy enough and available. Such an iconic character.

Gone, but not forgotten. Nicholas Courtney created a brilliant preformance of a military leader, but with a twinkle in the eye who became one of the Doctor's greatest friends. Then they brought in Jemma Redgrave, whose Kate Stewart continued the legacy of her father, always in spirit of Nicholas Courtney, with even his image often present in the background. And then there is Jon Culshaw, an impressionist and Doctor Who fan, particulary of the Pertwee era, who was cast because of his talent to impersonate voices. But he didn't just mimic Nick Courtney's voice, he resurrected the Brigadier without losing the character and the original preformance. Very much a tribute from a fan to one of his heroes. Nick. Jemma. Jon. Thanks for creating the Brigadier, continuing his legacy and letting his spirit live on.

The thing that amazes me about Nicholas Courtney is how much chemistry he had with everyone. Whether it was Troughton, Frazer Hines, Wendy Padbury, Pertwee, John Levene, Richard Franklin, Katy Manning, Elisabeth Sladen, Baker, Davison, McCoy, even Anjli Mohindra in the Sarah Jane Adventures, he always seemed to have great onscreen chemistry.

Gotta say one thing about the Series 8 finale;(SPOILERS) you can have all the science fiction, time travel and explosions you want but when Brigadier Lethbridge Stewart and the Doctor salute each other after Kate said that her father´s biggest ambition was that The Doctor gave him back the military salute before he died, i literally started crying like a baby from the emotion... Cause i don´t know if a lot of remember this, but im the Series 6 finale, the hospital calls the Doctor and tells him that the Brigadier has passed away and that he always put on a glass of wine on this table just in case of The Doctor stepping by to pay a visit to him.

And yet...becoming a Cyberman doesn't really seem like a very fitting end to such a great man as the Brigadier....(but that's just my opinion), still a very moving moment though...(Also, I hope we see more of Kate Stewart, she's just as cool a character as her father.)

This is a lovely tribute to the late great Nicholas Courtney and his Character Brigadier Alistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart. As the 2nd Doctor once said about his friend "Dear old Lethbridge-Stewart. Still blazing away as usual." That was SO true! *Chuckles* Without the Brig and UNIT to help him out, I feel the Doctor's efforts to stop threats to Earth would have failed. Also I'm glad Nicholas was available for Doctor Who's 10th an 20th Anniversary, they wouldn't have been Anniversary's without him present in some form. So to quote the 3rd Doctor: "Thank you, Brigadier. But do you think that for once in your life you could manage to arrive before the nick of time?" Brigadier: "I'm glad to see you too, Doctor."

There was this moment where Kate Stewart said to her Zygon duplicate: "If you look into my mind, you'll find a man by the name of Allistair Gordon-Lethbridge Stewart. That moment actually made me cry! Nicholas Courtney's loss was huge to the Whovian community, as was Elizabeth Sladen's. It is just so terribly sad that the two most iconic companions in Doctor Who history died within only weeks of each other. Growing up in the 90's I missed out on Doctor Who as a child. I started watching when the series was recomissioned in 2005 but am now a huge fan of the classics and my favourite era of the show is the Troughton/Pertwee era. The Brig will always hold a special place in my heart and Nicholas Courtney will forever be one of my favourite actors! There are so many people now lost to us all from Dr. Who episodes. I remember them all with fondness. Thank-you for this post to help me remember on of them.

@@hollismoore1097 I recommend The Web of Fear, his first appearance, and then the Pertwee era for some classic UNIT action.

@@WaspCameraInSpringfield - 'Battlefield' gives us the Brig as we all knew him to be. He faced down Morgan le Fay AND a world-destroying demon-thing.

@@hollismoore1097 - He faced everything thrown at him with courage, a stiff upper lip, and a command of snark that most people only dream of.

Beautiful. I always loved the Brigadier, he was never afraid to put the Doctor in his place - in any of his incarnations - he was truly amazing.
