So they were headed for Brixton, but ended up on a desolate alien world occupied by deadly flying monsters. Sounds like they got lucky going through that wormhole!

One thing that always amused me from the time I thought of it, Lee Evans plays a character name Malcolm. In There's Something About Mary he played a character named Tucker. Malcolm Tucker is a character played by Peter Capaldi. I feel like that means something. Not sure what.

The Doctor Who Confidential for this episode is entertaining - well, they all are. All because a crane operator didn't lift a container high enough to clear the top of the bus - the other bus, kept in England for interior shots, had to be damaged to make them match.

This was the first Doctor Who episode to be filmed in HD and to make the most of it they went to Dubai to film the desert scenes. This involved shipping the bus which was involved in an accident that crushed the roof. Fortunately, they could incorporate it into the script! The bus has the number 200 as this was the show's 200th story (by BBC counting - like most things Doctor Who, it's disputed! :) ). The episode was aired at Easter hence Christina's bunny rabbit; the chocolate Easter egg, and the Doctor's "Happy Easter"!

Another episode where people across the pond have almost no idea who 2 of Britain's most recognisable faces are: Malcolm - Lee Evans, one of the UK's top stand-up comedians until he retired a few years ago. Christina - Michelle Ryan, who made her name in one of Britain's longest running soap operas, Eastenders. Great reaction.

While she was good in Merlin, she did not act well in this episode. What makes Christina’s escape even funnier is this: look in the background. No U.N.I.T members give a fuck when Christina runs away. There is a U.N.I.T soldier *literally* behind the door and he doesn’t even react to her running away. The Doctor has chosen someone to save, so U.N.I.T won’t interfere with that.

The military in this is not 'the Feds', it's UNIT ('Unified Intelligence Taskforce' -- or as it was called in the Classic Series: 'United Nations Intelligence Taskforce'). It's basically like the bigger, more militarized, international version of Torchwood -- there on Earth to defend it against alien treats. And the Third Doctor worked for them as their 'chief scientific advisor' (which was Malcolm's job in this), so they go WAAAY back in the show. :)

I honestly believe Christina would have been an absolutely horrendous companion, and it was good she was found in this period of his life. Why? Christina is near perfect; she is witty, intelligent, quick, prepared and able for anything. That is precisely the problem. A companion should NOT be so perfect. The Doctor doesn't take the best of mankind in terms of ability but in terms of personality. People like Rose or Donna who aren't looked at as valuable by most people but have that certain something that makes him drawn to them. Yet when we assess Christina on that front...she fails. Her first two scenes establish that she is a thief AND that she will betray her partner the second that it is convenient for her. In addition, she states that her prime motivation is for "adventure." Now, on the surface, this seems very similar to the Doctor, and would make her prime companion material...but not quite. The Doctor's companions aren't meant to want to seek out danger, thrills or adventure in this sense but to simply want to travel the universe for the sake of it, without selfishness. It's a motivation entirely different to the Doctor. The number of parallels between Christina and the Doctor are alarming; thieves, opportunistic, outward looking, natural leaders, egotistical, leaned, cultured and having an implicit dark side. The companion is meant to rival and oppose the Doctor, not mirror him in all these ways. If she had come along, I truly believe she would have gone down as one of the most disastrous companions in all of Who history. (Think Adam times ten.)

Well clearly someone really liked Malcolm! Glad to see that, great little character. The episode is itself is pretty disappointing though. Don't get me wrong, it's fairly innocuous, but it's also disposable. It doesn't do anything wrong, but it doesn't do anything particularly groundbreaking and brilliant either. It exists only to set up the four knocks, more on that later. The plot is very thin. I'm pretty sure the Doctor and lady Christina spend at least 10 minutes chatting away on the spaceship with the Tritovores, which is indicative of how thin the plot really was. Mentioning Lady Christina, she really annoyed me throughout the episode, totally selfish, arrogant and narcissistic. She had little to no depth as a character. Better things are on the horizon though, up next is my favourite Doctor Who story of all time. I can't wait!
