i’m american but americanized doctor who would be a nightmare. half the fun of the show is the different cultural perspective. i love watching international tv/movies, and the american domination over media is so present, it makes me sad.
Also watching this until I can watch it in Australia. Worst part about Disney+ having Doctor Who now is that I cant watch it immediately (or for free) on ABC
@@laurenkaitlyn6341also an Australian here & yeah, I think it sucks too. Not sure if I want to stay subbed on disney plus for too much longer, never had any interest until we were forced to sign up just to be able to see Doctor Who eps instead of the reliability of our faithful ABC channel that I always used to look forward to. But now, like disney, I don't really have much reason to watch anything else on that channel. Ugh...
@36:00 I love how you're giving RTD advice to be more like Chibnall. Big ups to be appreciating Jodie's era for its absolute high strengths. I love it, and want more people to say how they love it. So good, so good. RTD did admit he should have not "done a Chibnall" with the secrecy behind Wild Blue Yonder. He wouldn't do that again -- it raised expectations way too high. As for the "10 minutes" for Davros to get his injury … nah. It's a new timeline where the injury is different. But the bigger question - and it exists in everyday life - is: How does someone admit they're wrong? It's genuinely weird and rare for people to change their mind about anything vaguely political … not just in the 21st century, but ever. You just don't hear anecdotes ever, do you? (I mean, I like to tell people about the moment I went from climate change skeptic to climate change believer … but I feel truly individual about that … every other case sounds like people disavowing they said anything earlier, never talking about it again … it's so, uncomfortable?) The closest we have is when a popular government loses another election - but there's no exit interview - it's silent, it's anonymous. There's never any "here's WHY" that happens when an opinion changes. The best you ever get is a graph of opinion polls shifting. RTD now believes it IS broke, and needs to fix it. I know one thing: I can't know what to think, until there's been a generation of kids living with a Davros Who Walks … and then you ASK one of them in a wheelchair what they really think. Show them the 30+ year old episodes with wheelchair Davros (yeah, I know it's sci-fi floating or something, but c'mon, it's a wheelchair from the future) … and THEN you come to a conclusion after listening to a kid who actually has to think about accessibility ... all ... the ... time ... even when they CBF, they have to care anyway.
I thought not spoiling Wild Blue Yonder worked personally, but to answer your question: How does someone admit they're wrong? I think... it's very difficult. It's a very turbulent time in the Doctor Who fandom so I think admitting any wrongdoing, even if they have done it, would be rather foolish to do now. What I would say is he should do what he did last time and write it all in The Writer's Tale (or his next version of it lol.) Again, it's a difficult question to answer because, tbh, I don't know. I will also say I think the next guy who comes along is instantly going to revert Davros because the character is nothing without the design.
Having access to all of Classic Who on BBC iPlayer was the highlight of the year for me! For years I’d been using the few DVDs I could afford and dodgy BritBox on and off, and at the end of 2023 I was pretty broke so only had RU-vid and iPlayer. Since November I must have watched about 30-40 new Classic Who serials, as many as I’ve ever watched. It’s so so good and so much easier to get into longer serials (like The War Games, god dam) and I’m so grateful they finally did it.
Great to see some love for the New Doctor Who theme, at about the 34 minute mark, people saying it sounds the same as 2008 don't know what they're talkin about.
Season 11: Was Good but they had around 50 50 when it came to bad and good episodes. and some bad episodes had great acting. Season 12: Great until Timeless Child Season 13: Literally amazing but the legends of the sea devils
This. Although S12 did have Orphan 55, which was just meh, even when you ignore the speech at the end nobody will shut up about 5 years after the fact.
@@idle_speculation yeah, It ruined ryan for me tho since ryan had a relationship with no chemistry and he was made to look stupid by sucking on his thumb. But besides that and the timeless child. Its really good
Yay! I'm the 200th like! It's funny thinking about the 60th anniversary now that it's over. I remember after The Power of the Doctor, I went to an Ikea and sat by the window and just started reading articles on my phone about Russell saying he's "giving us a year" to ponder what the 60th anniversary will be about. It fell so far off and filled with wonder. Now that it's all done, and because it wasn't necessarily as grandiose and epic as say Day of the Doctor, It feels pretty underwhelming in hindsight. But I guess that's how it is with most things. It's just part of the show's history now.
Really nice video, am enjoying it. Only found your channel recently and really like it, and actually shared it with my daughter and she's checking it out now. Cheers.
To me the 3 specials are basically the modern equivalent of the Tv movie. The Tv movie is not technically classic or new who just like how the 60th specials aren’t technically 05 who or 24 who. It just kinda is.
I'm a hashtag Fluxxer, but I did hate part 3 for how dull it was , the gimic of the episode wore off quick I was fine with it for 10 minutes than it took up half the episode I was " okie now we are getting back into the real plot " than the episode finished I was like well that was a bit naff.
Two samples that ruins the British or non American. Idols of American heroes, oh. Batman and Superman, so IDK. They were great and the Doctor can be anything. I can't really I agree in that sample.
PLEASE do a full Daleks in Colour video because I felt the exact same way. They totally gutted al the atmosphere, the mystery and exploring in part one and I think it's insulting to assume younger people, even children, are completely lacking attention span. The Daleks part 1, DOES grip people if they're willing to watch it. If the rest of the colorisations are going to be like this I don't even want them.
#fluxxer (However the decision to make time itself a villain in the time travel show is a bit confusing. Wonder how it fits into the EU stuff about 7 being Time's Champion)
I think the original comic version is by far the best. Having the 2023 version above it would be as ludicrous as putting the new version of Doctor Who over the original.
Youre wrong. And you missed the point of bigeneration. "The Doctor" does go on continuing the adventure---but its Fifteen and not Fourteen. Fourteen is spending time with his family to heal. Fifteen is off adventuring, Fourteen is home healing. Of course we'll see David again, bu4t for right now, he's resting and healing and having quiet(er) stories with Donna and her family. Thats how I understand it anyway.
I'm not wrong. I understood perfectly. And I think it's incredibly, incredibly stupid. And it misses the point of Doctor Who. I don't want a Doctor "at home healing" whatever that means. The 'reason' the Doctor needs to heal is contrived and blatantly idiotic, the idea of the Doctor settling down anywhere is so obviously antithetical the character's entire attitude (which is usually the inciting incident for many episodes of the show) it is genuinely baffling. And I know Russell T Davies understands this, because he has demonstrated it perfectly well with the 15th Doctor. Again, I don't think the Giggle is a bad episode, in fact I think it's a good episode- but that particular element of it completely falls flat for me, and always makes me feel uncomfortable and want to stop watching on rewatch.
nah nah nah once and future is absolutely great the 7th doctor one is fantastic! You are in trouble for that one buddy💋felt so passionate i couldn’t even start with my emojis 😔👁️👃👁️
I didn't saw all the videos on the channel yet, but to what I saw I think that this is one of the recolonization part was the very very maggressive by DWfan91 levels (and very rightfully so.)
18:45 Rarewaves is what I have to do to get the Classics collection. Around 2022 the Australian distributors started delaying so much I think they've given up - without giving an alternative. All you need is a UK seller willing to ship internationally.
I stand by that out of the 3 specials,WBY is proper,,Scary' Dr Who!! The scary shit at the end,the damn horror of Donna screaming and believing she got left behind!!U GOT THE WRONG 1!!yh,that's proper scary Who🤪🤣✌️🍻🤟
The Star Beast - In my opinion, a great, silly, Doctor Who episode that feels straight out of the best of the Chibnal era, 7/10 Wild Blue Yonder - Pure RTD Doctor Who, flawless episode. 9/10 The Giggle - Probably the worst episode of modern Doctor who, fuck this episode 0/10
I think there is some degree of hyperbole in those sentences (small though), but I don't agree that classical who can't be improved, but it was to use it's vocabulary to improve, but it is as you said, is like playing Scrillex over Mozart, it might work if you change a lot of both, and even then you surely won't get the same quallity as any of both vocabularies could reach by themselves alone. Even then, appling a new soundtrack that has the same vocabulary of Modern Who, a energetic TV show of the 2000's in the theatrical and slow paced from the 70's, Classical Who footage became my new definition of oxymoron since then.
Thankfully refound this video after coming across a previous video. Love youre positivity without letting russell off questionable comments in interviews. Normally find people just shouting woke! As a criticism instead of whats good on screen
Please, pahleeesseee do a video of that horrible colourisation thing. Really want to see that one because I have similar feelings on that issue. Thanks dwfan91
the zygon invasion novel GOES HARD and it has a little extra scene to explain bonnie motivations more. i wont spoil but it involves someone called clyde
D Duds! It's 3:05am and I can finally explain bigeneration - it's a timelord legend; a myth. And what did the Doc do when he spilled the salt at the end of the universe? He let myths come into reality.
How i took the bi regeneration is explained is that it is a timelord legend, not a thing that happens since the timelords ( timepersons?) perfected themselves or a myth completely, but since it occurs in front of the toymaker, it occurs in a special circumstance where myths can happen and, probably, are likely to.
@@dwfan91- my knowledge on the toymaker is limited but from the episode i had concluded that he is some sort of trickster entity that can control the physics of the universe immediately around him, either by being some sort of essential being or by drawing from another universe with different physics. I came to this conclusion bc rtd is toying with the idea of running this season more like fantasy than sifi, so having gods and ruling beings wouldn't be that much of a stretch The toymaker being familiar with timelord customs and physiology, while also having defeated many timelords, would probably be bored by the constant regeneration cycle. So, knowing that there is this alternate myth about bi regeneration and being able to control whatever he pleases, he made the doctor bi regenerate instead of regenerate. Which would be a delight for him to observe since it's something new and different. So it didnt matter to him that he lost the game of catch since he was more invested in the new creation of bi regeneration and what effect it would have on a timelord, so either way he won. Which i would argue is why he left the tooth behind, because who better to test two of the same timelord than the master himself.
All I will say about 14 is it's more about they need to work through their trauma and then when they become 15 they can truly move forward unburden with the most of their scars healed.
I think that explanation is contrived and unnecessary. Considering the 15th Doctor is not unburdened and has no scars healed, it's definitely a misstep
Would love to hear you talk about The Daleks in Colour some more! The music at 49:58 is one of my favourite tracks from the 60s period of Who, but hearing that same gorgeous theme with extra shitty digital brass and string instruments played over the top of it is makes it sound so out of place it's like the audio equivalent of watching the Star Wars Special Editions and noticing all the dated CGI. It's one in a line of many pet peeves throughout this edit of the story. I guess the silver lining is that at least the original remains untouched and watchable on iPlayer too. Great video!
Cant say I've read too many Dr Who comics outaide of the annuals. One I do own and love is the Good Dalek with 11th. If you've read it i'd love to know your thoughts
I've always adored that book. Lots of great easter eggs for Dalek fans to enjoy- brilliant art and interesting plot twists. One of my favourite comics ever
How long did it take u to watch classic who? I’ve just finished school so have a 10 week break off wanna see if it’s possible to watch all of classic who in that time!
yeah you can definitely watch it all in that- my suggestion would be to start with the ones you want to so you can keep momentum strong and then by the end you can catch all the ones that didn't seem that appealing at first. If you watch an episode a day to start and then take on more as you get into it you'll have em finished in no time!
I would like to hear your opinion on Season 22 in full- Also, I was waiting for a while to hear your opinions on The Daleks in Color and you did Not dissapoint!
Literally everything you said to the letter, is how I feel. So there’s no point for me to add to this. The 60th year is the most misjudged and disappointing year of the entire show for me. It’s a big reason why my excitement died out as quick as it built up. Just a REAL shame. I just hope all this back logging with the series itself won’t fall into all these mistakes.
