Well they have to be. There’s some pretty blue jokes in this kids show. So they’re very coy about them. I sometimes wonder what kids think when they’re old enough to understand what was going on. I’m wondering if they did the same in Classic Who. I wonder if there were jokes I wouldn’t have gotten in the 70’s and 80’s but I’d get now.

Jamal Wills You must be one of those people that have never watched cartoons. They almost always throw in adult jokes for the adults watching with the kids. They rarely have to “coy” simply because kids will not understand them.

Eleven is very manipulative. It's actually one of the things that makes him my favorite Doctor. Seven (another one of my favorites) was like that as well. Almost clownish on the outside but underneath that always having a plan or an alternative motive. Matt Smith did a great job of always showing a hint of that dark side while still being the funny outgoing character that children will love.

The girl that was singing, irl she is a Welsh Singer called Catherine Jenkins. I got to sing with her in Hampton court with a big group of boys 2 years ago. I was like 2 feet from her. Her voice irl is just as good

Michael Gambon said it was difficult for him to stand there as she sang because her voice was so powerful and she was actually singing on set. Mega goosebumps and every hair on end from head to toe. I actually have that last song on my phone. Have to turn it down when it comes on.

I took some friends to an opera once, and some of the chorus were in the foyer singing Christmas carols before the performance. My friends, who'd never heard opera singers "live" and up-close before, were amazed at the power of their voices. I trained as an opera singer myself, and a woman living in the next street once told me she would open a window or sit in her garden when I was practising, as she enjoyed listening. My immediate neighbours probably had more mixed feelings!

I really enjoy this episode. I Love the original Dickensian Story, and always listen to it narrated by Patrick Stewart when driving home for Christmas (I can probably quote it). I honestly think this is the best Christmas Episode. Its a matter of personal taste, but I love it.

Aw I loved rewatching Series 5 with you.... my favourite.... and now we are going to some more excellent stories... Series 6 i feel very underrated but is a real favourite too (not trying to be spoilery but Series 5, 10 and 6 are my top 3 series') and yeah this special after an incredible Series 5 was a lovely special... my favourite Christmas special :) so many incredible scenes and quotes... love it

The one where the Doctor meets Dumbledore and Catherine Jenkins. She’s a real life Welsh Opera singer, I’m pretty sure this was her acting debut. Also was there a reason the Doctor couldn’t just save all the people on the crashing spaceship with the TARDIS? I’ve forgotten

Also, yes, the Doctor is that manipulative. It's a big theme of the Moffat era to point it out, where as you could see it before, but you'd have to really look.

19:15 A lot of people wonder exactly WHO the Doctor was talking about when 'or hide in your room and make a new kind of screwdriver' was said. Given that it's the Second Doctor... I'd say Jamie McCrimmon (which is supported by the fact that Patrick Troughton and Frazer Hines basically stopped just short of outright flirting together in-character onscreen, though entirely for their own amusement).

And honestly, this is one of the best Christmas Specials Moffat did, I think. This one and Last Christmas. The Snowmen is not bad either. I suppose it's just Husbands of River Song and The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe that were the bad ones. Return of Doctor Mysterio's...fine? Okay? Not great, not terrible.

There is an excellent presentation of the music of this episode on the truly amazing channel, "Doctor Who Fan Orchestra". Individual artists record their parts and then it is assembled into a global production. There are 10 videos, one about the channel and productions. It ended 7 years ago.
