Sylvester McCoy's contract was set to expire in 1990; season 27 therefore would've been his last. Going by the "three seasons max" rule that most actors in the role adhere to, an eighth incarnation of the Doctor for a classic series that never got cancelled probably would've lasted from 1991 to either 1993 or 1994 (depending on scheduled airdates).

@@VinchVolt the traditional 3 series thing didn’t come in until the modern reboot, back then they were random, Sylvester for 4 as he wanted, 7 with 4, 5 for 3, 2 for 6 ect

That little sound actually started the creative process for this video. When i heard it i immediatley pictured McCoys face in some sort of form of titles and knew i had a winner so started from there. That was the first part of the video i edited/created and then the rest of the titles slowly started to appear from my imagination as time went on.

No theme for the 30th anniversary or 40th.

Not many people notice its from 2001. Well done and cheers for watching :)

I know, right? A lot of people shit on those later stories like Survival and Battlefield, but they always forget about stories like Fenric or Remembrance.

Well your not wrong. If you want to be realistic, take into account real life events. I think they woulda used the 1987 intro for at least one more season. Because the BBC was about to have their 1991 corporate rebrand and would be saving it for afterwards. So for season 27, they would still use the 87 theme throughout 1990-1991, and THEN switch to this theme for season 28 in... say 1991 or 1992. OR Maybe they woulda used the other version of this opening created by this same channel (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SKaRsqMaZpE.html) as a stand-in because, again, they woulda been saving this one for after the 91 rebrand. Either way they would have used it until at least 1994-1995 when Sly McCoy's run of the show would end along with the show to begin hyping up the movie.

@@lion.288 yeah.. The Season 24 intro would’ve been used for Season 27, and for Season 28(which would’ve been the first for new Doctor: Richard Griffiths/Ian Richardson/whoever is cast in the role) a new intro would be used

Thankyou 😁😇 Keep an eye out and subscribe as one day I'd quite like to do a 3rd and final 7th Doctor 1990 title sequence at some point but it's all about finding the right theme to do the job. How i could ever top this one is anyone's guess! I'd love there to be an animated Doctor Who spin off at some point in the future. The series has always had massive scope to have an animated spin off and give past Doctors new adventures on screen. Big Finish do a wonderful job of doing just that but I'd kill to actually be able to actually *see* my favourite past Doctors have new adventures. The scope would be unlimited

I know a good intro when I see it, but would they really have gone back to traditional animation methods after a full CGI intro? Either way, it's this sort of aesthetic that's held up really well. This year's graphic design trends are strikingly 80s.

McCoy's episodes, especially in seasons 25 and 26, were way darker than any Capaldi story imo.

OwenDWF I don't know how but you made it look less like slit scan. (In 2001, now these days you can tell the glowing art and stuff was on walls of some sort.) Yet, you made it more.... less flat, I guess? Maybe because you made it transparent with the starfield. aAnyways, good work! People would've been amazed in 1990 if they saw this, just like how they were amazed at the 1963 opening of Doctor Who.

Unfortunately, not at the moment. I moved to a smaller house 2 years ago and dont have the same amount of room anymore, so all the figures are boxed away in the loft. Even if i could bring them down from the loft i dont have a place to really film anymore as i used to do all my animations on a big table inside a garage. Im looking to move out sometime either next year or the year after that, so hopefully i can get back into doing them, because i really miss bringing scenes from Big Finish to the screen. So not at the moment, but hopefully again in the nearish future ;)

Jacen Hale I would love to yeah!!!! I'd quite like to do a 3rd and final version of my 1990 titles but until I fin the right theme tune variant I won't be making one. Free time ain't easy because I have two jobs too but if and when the time comes and I find the correct theme variation that sounds retro 1990 style there will be another in the future

I've thought about it but I can't see any point as they would be a tad boring. Just seeing letters scroll up the screen doesn't really grab the attention span of the audience

The VHS effect is a series of overlays. I downloaded static effects from RU-vid and placed them over the top of the video. I went further with Sony Vegas plug ins and put a TV screen like quality into the video, made the sound "tinny" like an old square TV (the ones before flat screens) and used a TV plug in effect that's already built into Vegas I don't know if I will, but there's a possibility I might do a "making of" of this video as there's a lot of effects and sourced material in this video to warrant how it's done

In some of the interviews with Andrew Cartmel who was the then intended show runner for 1990 onwards, he and Ben Arronvitch had planned to give the whole show another "reboot" to make everything fresh again. They had planned to make the titles and theme tune a bit darker and return to a more traditional format, while making the series a bit darker in tone. Ive followed what they said quite closely as they intended to give the show quite a dark overall feel and make the Doctor way more mysterious again. A new companion was to join and the TARDIS interior was to be given a new look. With what they have said and what the plans were, I'm of the belief that a makeover was without a doubt on the cards similar to what happened towards the end of Tom Bakers run when John Nathan Turner took over as show runner. This would have resulted in a new set of titles as they had intended. I cant remember which Doctor Who DVD It was but theres a special feature on Doctor Who 1990 and what the intentions were for the series before it got axed in 1989. Andrew Cartmel and Ben Arronvitch discuss what the plans were . The titles and theme tune are mentioned as there had been numerous complaints about the current theme tune and titles at the time straying too far away from the norm (I dont mind them I'm quite like them) with some concept stories and art that had been discussed at the time as well. The BBC logo I've used probably wouldnt have appeared until a year later, but I put it in there as I felt it made the whole thing feel just a little bit more retro and in keeping with the 1990s.

@@OwenDWF So what you're getting at is that Sly's doctor would have gone something similar that matt smith or Tom/Colin baker have gone through: their doctors image get a makeover with multiple changes just to freshen things up for the sake of differently written storylines.

Correction after the war doctor is shalka 2002 and 2003 before the 40th anniversary and regeneration to the 9th doctor

I completley agree with you! There was a lot of potential to take the show in a very dark and mysterious direction that could have been one of the shows absolute best eras. Sci fi in the 1990s was incredibly dark.

Thank you. Theres a lot of people who would bark back at you on this site, so thank you loads for being so patient. I have thought about letting people have their own names and face in the titles seen in this video, but the problem is once one person gets their own set of titles, everyone wants a set of their own titles. Ive got one more 3rd and final version of the 1990 titles on the way. Once ive done that (if i can get find the right theme tune variant for it. I want to do one thats REALLY spooky and dark. Like "Stranger Things" style fonts and lettering with a red vortex) ill consider doing custom versions for everyone

Yeah you can use the theme tune no problem i found the theme else where on RU-vid. Again though just the theme tune i dont have a clean version without my channel logo in the bottom corner
