The colourisation didn’t bother me that much, but the way it was edited exactly as described in the video. There was an attempt to give it a 2023 pace, but then there would be a key moment where it ground to a halt and reverted to its 1960s roots, followed by sequences of rapid cuts from scene to scene to make up for it. Interesting experiment, not sure about the results though. The 1960 movie achieved the same length and is a more satisfying experience
@whovian59
@whovian59 5 месяцев назад
The sixties movie was able to create something from scratch, whereas The Daleks in Colour obviously uses existing material, that’s not a fair comparison. Considering the constraints, I think they did a good job.
@AlchemistOfNirnroot
@AlchemistOfNirnroot 8 месяцев назад
The colourisation was great. But I agree. The music and fast cuts made no sense. When it was 1960s Doctor Who in colour it was great. But then you get this modern music and editing style. And the constant 'flashbacks'/reminders of previous plot seemed to be either for extending run time or that they think we forgot something which happened 20 minutes ago. The thing which sucks the most is that I would be enjoying it but be anxious about when it's next going to stray from the source material. On a more positive note it's easy to fix. But on a more realistic note. This won't happen.

All my life I've loved doctor who the early black and white years have always been a joy to watch as I love those black and white horror films from back then. And now we're getting old stories in colour. There's absolutely nothing bad about that it will be a very spectacular experience to relive those years with bursting hues of colour. Yes, as someone who actually saw the original broadcast far, far back in time... I can agree with you, that you would have needed to have seen the complete story first, so as to understand what was going on... The colorised shortened video is very nice, and is wonderful for the first half, but, I agree, they seem to have lost some of the story, in the second half... I suggest you watch the complete story if it is on YT....

Honestly I really didn’t like it. The soundtrack was unnecessary, the gun effects were pointless and they cut out some key scenes. The added voices really made it so much worse. It was full of montages and ended up as a chopped up mess of scenes. Honestly it would have been better to just put the story into colour, cut a few unnecessary bits (the cave scene and the forest for example) and leave everything else alone

The colour and definition was amazing and it was an enjoyable experience . I have to say I'd have liked to see it a bit longer and some of the cuts , especially the camera I find myself in agreement with . The one thing I missed was the background beep beep noise of the Dalek city - odd as they use it in the modern series and the Children in need special .

As one of the 8 million viewers who were amazed at the first ever showing of the Daleks, ( back when the world was young )... I also think that this is a nice presentation in colour... But, in common with many other comments, I wish they had NOT added the background music... It was not in the original 7 episodes, and seems to be extra unnecessary work for the creator of this video... Just a suggestion to the creator of this video... Why not make a copy of this, and simply delete the background music... Call it " The Daleks in colour - without music "... and see what response there is... I am sure there would be hundreds of VERY positive comments... Go on... I dare you !

“We had conversations of bringing the first Dalek story back because it’s a fantastic story. Time and society and taste has moved on, and there’s a problem with the story in that it’s black and white, and rather slow. I had a lot of problems with that, and a lot of the production team had problems with associating classic Doctor Who with black and white and boring, and trust me there’s a long tradition of that. So we made the decision to bring this story back as badly edited as possible, with new music, new dialogue and presented it in colour. And I say this is what The Daleks looks like now. @@user-dx1jh7lf2l no no not at all know many NuWho fans who love classic Who I was on about the ones you see a lot who never watch classic Who and criticise it for everything. When I was a youngster in watched classic Who live and also on VHS and never struggled with 6 to 10 part stories. They held my interest. The flashbacks in this story just proved my point "have to remind them of what happened 10mins earlier" giving the impression they are unable to retain information. I'm not saying all youngsters are lacking attention spans my friends little boy who is 6 enjoys Classic Who and has watched 6 parters and is fascinated by it - he loves the 3rd Doctor when he does his Karate the little one goes "Oooh pow pow" 😂. I don't mind the colourisation of stories I think if done well can make the stories new and fresh. My only issue is what will they edit out - stuff which They deem "problematic" where it wasn't an issue before. And my one fear is if they do a old Cyberman story are they going to put NuWho Cybermen voices all over them - I really hate NuWho Cybermen voices lol. Say they did Tomb of the Cybermen will they edit out Victoria and Kaftan scenes? Will Tobermann be removed? The classic dialogue between The Doctor and Victoria about dealing with deceased loved ones - I have seen quite a few NuWho fans get - hate using this word "Triggered" by it. Will that be edited out and you know the Jamie and Dr holding hands thinking it was Victoria will defo be removed. These are the issues I have, I get they them removing sections of nothing happening or unnecessary side plots which lead to nothing or do not impact on the main story line, but when RTD justifies it in a way that implies some NuWho fans and new people clearly don't have the brain capacity to comprehend classic Who 6+ episode stories. It could cause problems down the line when you get those who have seen the full story vs Edited versions and the argument that could pop up 😂.

I mean, if they were going to colourize the whole 7 episodes (which is what i was expecting) and yeah, maybe have abridged version as i nice experiment as an option, then I i would be fine. Having just watched it, I felt that the pacing was off, the music was a tad intrusive at times and I really could not stand the call-backs to previous scenes. This felt more like something a university student would have made in their spare time. Having said all that, it kind of does have its charm, especially feeling like a 60s fever dream sci-fi epic (something that would feel MORE appropriate for The Chase) I would personally give it a 6/10 🤷 i do hope they'll just colourize the full 7 and possibly a few other 60s who in the future

Yes I want everything to have the best quality, and colourised. But I also want options to customise. Say 4K but B&W, or Colour. Or even new music but yeah keep the old for obvious reasons. Or make the new stuff replicate the old. And they should have some all episodes not but this shortened version (which I like the idea, but again options. But cutting out key points is stupid.) One thing they should do is sync the Daleks lights with the spoken syllables. Would polish it up nice. And maybe added parts, scenes or new effects or the background with no paint and bare wooden joists and painted them or such. Like Daleks with actual beams instead of negative flashes. Also still can’t believe the issue with An Unearthly Child. That is crazy and just a shame. The BBC need to unite all Doctor Who episodes, spin-offs, and movies under one roof. Give us deep fakes, restorations, colourisations, polishing updated effects or added effects or add parts, with options to change to your liking and more products.

I was just captivated and delighted to see a homegrown sci-fi on TV. The premise for updating such old material is very flawed, it's charm is in it's pace and it's overstretched ambition. The fact it was in black and white added to it's mood, imagine taking any classic film noir and colourising it, it just kills the atmosphere. Adding colour and frantic music and editing will not make this any more appealing to a very young audience, the plummy RE accents, the camp costumes and hammy acting is not something that can be modernised or disguised, so this attempt ends up a bizarre hybrid curiosity that I suspect will please very few fans old or new.

The editing wasn't executed well, it was so fast that they should've left two episodes intact then edit the other five in 75 minutes so we're talking 2 hours. Interestingly, Doctor Who and the Daleks is 10 minutes longer. I haven't seen the Daleks in 3 years, and I just felt lost, there was no plot.

I like Mark Ayres, but the music mix wasn't fit for purpose. It was too loud and it sounded too 80's, not 60's. Incidental music was thin in the 60's, they tried to add it to push the compressed edit to create tension.

I was excited for this. So underwhelmed. Mark Ayres score (Sorry Mark. I love everything else you've ever done.) just did not work. The editing: I couldn't even finish. I skimmed and couldn't believe how it was massacred in editing. My 15 yr old self did a better job editing my own low budget films with 2 VHS VCRs and a camcorder! If RTD thinks his target audience is thick, unable to concentrate for 2 seconds and is so concerned with offending anyone, this screams of condescension. Please leave the classics alone.

I couldn't care less for this, but i will be mightily pissed if the bluray of Invasion of the Dinosaurs has that shitty partial colourisation of episode 1. If they've got so much time and money that they can colour stories that don't need it then they better bloody colour the one episode that does need it.

Too much colour! The skin tones were dreadful... and inconsistent. Some of the added score was naff, some of the edits were very lumpy and the end credits music was dull! A curious experiment that I won't watch again.

Good colourisation but the music was out of place, and ott in many places. I thought it was a case of justifying paying for it.

I'm no fan of making b&w tv shows into color and I really wanted to like this by holy heck they butchered this like crazy. The color was ok, but adding new effects really ruined the charm of the more cheap effects they used to make these as good as they were. Why did they feel the need to add music to it? It drowned much of the sound out and the creepy effect sounds that were used originally. There was no need to edit it out as it was too fast paced and make soo little sense. There was no need for the flashbacks every 5 damn minutes. I hear the war games is gonna get the color treatment, sure the color was ok but do not do anything else to it.

Well Disney now has rights to doctor who so expect the same level of disrespect they’ve given to every single ip they’ve ever touched. With Disney having a say in doctor who were in for worse than just bad writing

@@c.lvr2602yes they have streaming rights but we all know Disney has extremely strict guidelines lines esp if streaming on their platform. It's all a bit odd this whole Davros issue suddenly came out of the blue. If streaming in America - there are many Americans who don't really know Dr Who and you can imagine the outrage that could kick off if they saw Davros 😂

The acting is bad and it's just so low budget and poorly made it won't get the new younger generation to watch them even if they was all done in colour you would have to be an older person like myself who grew up with these old black and white shows and who is a devoted fan time has changed so much. It's not like star trek where its done with a much bigger budget and better acting along with colour back in the 60's and was a more of a classic popular show and was more professionally made on a much bigger budget. It's the doctor who films that is more popular to watch with Peter Cushing Dr Who and the Daleks (1965) and Daleks' Invasion on Earth 1966... They just make the old tv shows look so crap even back from the 70's and 80's tv shows because they were all made with lower budget for bbc tv its the way it was back then. It would be nice to go back and see them in colour but it wont make them any better because of the acting and story they would be just too boring to watch. Even Star trek the next generation new star trek show after the originals was better than any doctor who shows made from the 90's onwards its the budget and you can change that as it was made that way at its time.
@richardruff8712
@richardruff8712 7 месяцев назад
Yes... Most of us, who were around in the 60's, were aware that the BBC did not have much money to spend on special effects.. But that was part of the charm of the early Dr Who seasons... We all loved the wobbly walls, and the simple costumes, etc... But, along came the Daleks, and suddenly the BBC became as good as the American Sci Fi shows...Let's be honest... If the Daleks had not appeared, then Dr Who would have been cancelled in the first season...
@bioshock6935
@bioshock6935 7 месяцев назад
But what's the excuse for today's dr who going down hill where star trek strange new worlds is a huge success and that's where budget come into play with actors who can act and more professional made with much better story writing and more made for the times with not just kids to watch but adults of all ages. Dr who still targets kids viewing and it can't seem to move on from that concept it still thinks where s in the 60' 70s with it's low budget tv show and it cant progress into making dr who into a film franchise. Star trek been doing that back in 1977 with the motion picture so what has dr who done going forward with this same old tv show nothing. Same low budget bad actors playing the role with same crappy writing David tennant was the only good thing come from dr who and look how they used him for this 60th anniversary they didn't even take full advantage to make a good story for him
@richardruff8712
@richardruff8712 7 месяцев назад
@@bioshock6935 Not too sure what the answer is... Maybe it is a generational thing... It seems that most viewers, under the age of 40, consider David Tennant to be the best Dr Who... Speaking as one of the 60 year olds, I, and apparently many others, still believe that Tom Baker was the best ever Dr Who... And many fans, including me, truly believe that " Genesis of the Daleks " with Davros, was the best ever story...
@bioshock6935
