Very helpful review. I have seen the 1970 omnibus edit of "The Green Death" and even that, taking a 6-parter and cutting it down to 90 minutes, felt rushed in comparison to the original. My gut feel is that the 1970s 6-parters could probably be trimmed slightly down to two-hour omnibus edits, but losing over a third of the story was too much. When I heard "The Daleks" was being cut down to just 75 minutes, I thought that there was no way that it could possibly flow properly and it's sad to hear that my hunch was right. I agree that you could probably get away with trimming out 30 or so minutes, but definitely not almost 100. I really hope this doesn't set a precedent for future colourisations; there are some absolutely great stories from Seasons 1 & 2 that I think would be absolutely butchered if they tried to cut them down too much (for example, I'm not sure you could cut much at all from "The Keys of Marinus" except maybe tighten up the scenes from the first episode, whilst "The Time Meddler" works beautifully with the slow reveal as to the Monk's true nature and plan - it would be terrible cut down to 45 minutes!).

I think it's great they are coloring them. Also, while I still love it, old Who dragged on allot. Introducing my partner to Who, I chose to start with new Who as the old is so slow. I updated him on old plots relative to the new and highlight a few great episodes. On the music note, I don't mind it, but the old music is better. If this new edit is to draw new viewers, I think that's great if it works.

Thank you for a balanced review. I didn't have a problem with the recolouring idea but I hated the final result. The OTT music score distracted from what was playing out visually, but what annoyed me the most were the constant flashbacks to remind us what happened barely ten minutes earlier. The result is certainly a version for viewers with limited attention span. I agree that Classic Doctor Who cannot be edited into a version that resembles Nu-Who.

That's a bit sad. I was hoping that this would've been a faithful release with the only change being colour. I haven't seen any classic who because it's so hard to find here in Australia.

Yeah, I'm going to say it's a fail. Clean them up and sympathetically colorise, then just leave them alone.

Bang on. The music was awful.
