"Then what happens next is your own doing", in this context, is one of the coldest lines in all of fiction. I liked it so much I put it in my debut novel. Dark Doctor moments are a real treat. And thank goodness Donna was there to say "You can stop now." Companions serve many functions in the show and to the Doctor. One of the most crucial is to be there to say things like "You can stop now." Good stuff. Too bad Donna never stayed on as a full time companion. Oh well, what could have been.

This is such a key moment for the Doctor as well. He warns the Racnoss three times, and then he just murders them all. He's so powerful, and most of the time he's just holding back because he doesn't want to kill. Never forget that he's the Oncoming Storm.

9:16 "Love Don't Roam" by Murray Gold & Oscar Brown Jr (Sung by Neil Hanlon) is a forgotten gem of his work 😍 & there will be a few more original full songs to come! "Well, you took me in, you stole my heart, I cannot roam no more. Because love, it stays within you, It does not wash up on a shore. But a fighting man forgets each cut Each knock, each bruise, each fall, But a fighting man cannot forget Why his love don't roam no more. Oh, reel me in, my precious girl, Come on, take me home. 'Cause my body's tired of travelling And my heart don't wish to roam." 💔💔

The 10th doctor and Donna have great chemistry you are in for a treat further down the line. I love these two together. David Tennant is my fave doctor of all time. I love him as 10 and 14. Fun fact David Tennant used to get in trouble at school here in Glasgow because all his essays, homework etc were about doctor who and wanting to play the doctor. That’s the reason he became an actor. Great reaction. Take care 😘🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I was so lucky to be able to see her and Tennant in Much Ado in London, and I loved The whole thing, but her line “Kill Claudio,” after such a chaotic comedy moment broke my heart and gave me chills.

Great Christmas episode, and Catherine Tate was brilliant as Donna Noble. It was a third Doctor story, The Time Warrior, which aired in December 1973 when the Doctor’s home planet was finally given the name Gallifrey, and I believe that this is the 1st episode that mentions Gallifrey in NuWho! Glad you enjoyed this story and season 2! IMO season 3 is even better, with the latter half of it producing some of the best episodes ever of NuWho!

I dunno if anyone has suggested it, but you should watch a comedy bit with Catherine Tate and David Tennant that was done for Comic Relief. Those cliffhanger endings are something of a staple of Doctor Who. And the writers often have a way of making things appear as if they were planned all along. 😊 Those endings are of course shot as late as possible, when they're already preparing for the next series. If a series ends with a regeneration, expect that the scene was just shot with a blank spot where the new actor would be inserted later. Some of the DVD commentaries say that Russell T Davies is particularly skilled in making unplanned snafus appear as if that was how it was supposed to be.

Everything about this episode was, is and always will be my favorite! But this also became a really important episode too, particularly the cab chase scene. Years ago I had made some life choices that felt like I was left in a dead end, and for a while I was just angry and sad about it, and didn’t know what to do nor had the courage to change anything. When I came to this episode I saw so much of my situation in Donna’s at the beginning - she had a goal that she was pulled off course from, and she kept trying to troubleshoot problem-solve but she kept running into dead ends, or she didn’t have the resources she needed, like cab fare, or pockets! She had a well-meaning person around, but her immediate problems where less his concern, and so she kept trying to solve things on her own, until, in desperation, she jumped in a cab with a Santa robot, and she found herself speeding down the motorway with the doors deadlocked. After discovering Donna here I would often listen to the score of this scene, when avenue after avenue of escape was closing down for her, until the only thing left was to trust The Doctor and take a literal leap of faith from a moving vehicle. I visualized myself as Donna, gathering up the courage to leap, and eventually I realized I had to be both Donna AND the Doctor, I had to be the one chasing that cab in the TARDIS, and telling myself to trust me and leap to freedom, and I had to trust myself to have that TARDIS ready at the same time I got the courage. It does get a little confusing, I admit. But Donna always gave me an example of someone who tried everything she could do, and had to trust in something outside herself. This scene, these actors, that music, for a good while, gave me strength as I learned to trust and take my own leap. For that Donna is very special to me, and I’m so glad you’ve now met her here! I’m so excited for you with what’s next!

The Empress of the Racnoss was played by Sarah Parish, and oh boy did she have fun with the role. I mean, if you're going to be trussed up with this massive spider costume, you might as well go whole hog and chew the hell out of that scenery. She has frequently co-starred with David Tennant on things, including my two favorites of those collaborations: the musical serial Blackpool and the really heartbreaking Recovery. In Recovery, David plays a man who suffers a brain injury and Sarah Parish played his wife who has to help him through things. It's so good and so sad.

Impossible is normal in DW😅. And somehow all the craziness works. And yes, the Doctor needs someone, not just to fight the loneliness, he is extremely powerful and ancient and when he is hurting and angry that power could be very dangerous. He needs someone at his side to pull him back, who does not have the ballast he is carrying, someone still "innocent" so to speak, someone to remember what he is fighting for.

Ohh neat! I didn’t know you were doing doctor who reactions. I know you from your movie reactions (I remember your there will be blood reaction) but this is a nice surprise. Doctor Who is my all time favourite thing. Not just show, but THING. It’s basically half of my life so to share that with you is awesome. You’re in for a ride. Going to go back and see your previous reactions too. I’ve watched this show since literally before I can remember, I would dress up as the doctor every day and always wave around a sonic screwdriver in first school. I still do. (Well, not in a school, that would be weird). Hope you have as much fun as I do watching the greatest show ever made! Although- I am one of those people who doesn’t like series 11-13. Not because I’m against a female doctor, I actually think Jodie Whittaker was the best part. The writing declined greatly, and it was not a good watch for me. (I will say, I am someone who notices a lot of details in regards to plot points, consistency and continuity and I am fully aware that many people do not at all care about that, but the lack of regard to continuity is what killed my enjoyment with those series of the show). In fact, analysing those episodes and why they were (imo) bad, is what gave me my love for storytelling. That said, you might fully enjoy them! We’ll just have to see and I’ll stay tuned in and ready. Even without those, there is still so much good stuff to look forward to and don’t let what anyone says effect your enjoyment, you should go into it without any bias. Good luck with the channel and have fun!

Donna was an... acquired taste for so many of us. Abrasive. Loud. Spoiled. Manipulative. Oblivious to the point of seeming just stupid. So glad they made the character likable for later. At least there was one good thing about her in in this introduction- her mother made Jackie look cultured and refined. But she did have one thing right. The Doctor DOES need companions to protect him from his true self.

The actress for the Racnoss Empress actually really hated the makeup! She was on Doctor Who confidential or some other show at one point and mentioned how it was really hard for her to move, speak or see. She kept biting herself, the prosthetics were hot and all the shouting hurt her throat. However, if I am remembering rightly, she also said she gave it her all because it was an honour to be cast as a villain on the show!

As for the actress you mentioned, there will be an explanation how Freema Agyeman returns in the next episode. The information is very casually dropped. Another mention of Mr. Saxon here by whoever is piloting the tank. Saxon was previously mentioned in a newspaper in Love & Monsters.

I absolutely thought this was like a Power Rangers villain. So glad someone else thought so.

I love how Donna is decidedly unimpressed by being in a time and space machine. Very not Rose.

Such a great pairing! It’s really too bad that she didn’t stick around

You asked if we might be the aliens/invaders. Well, the Silurians would say so.

@@colby_247 Haha not really... it's missing a key first part of the phrase to be a spoiler. For now, this last part works for this episode

Frequently when Doctor casts an actor and likes them they bring them back. It's usually at least a year later and not as the same character. This also happened in American television (Wagon Train, Rawhide, Gunsmoke, Star Trek...) but not so much lately. Let's face it Britain's not that big so chances are we're going to see familiar actors (Catherine Tate for instance) some time or the other. The head cat nurse in New Earth is playing another character in the next episode but it's not even noriceable because of the makeup.

15:00 No, we're going to seperate one side of his head, from the other. Then his shoulders. Then his torso. And finally, his legs. Via two forklifts. Okay.. maybe that was too much.
