I have this exact same year and make of car. I've changed out the starter once, about a yea rand a half ago. Now I have to do it again. My big hangup is getting the starter out. I took off the catalytic converter heat shield the last time I did it, but tried to avoid it this time. I just couldn't get the correct angle to get the thing out. So I'm trying to take the heat shield off again, and I can't get the last piece off. I need a video that shows exactly how you guys are taking the starter out.
@@HooptiesGarage - So I finally got that other piece of the heat shield off, but then when I put the starter in, I couldn't get the shield back on. So I put the shield back on first, then attempted to put the starter back in. It's a very tricky angle, but I got it in. Hopefully that will be the last time I put a starter on that car. But if I have to do it again, I'm not taking that shield off ever again. I'm just going to have to be patient enough to find the correct angle to pull the starter out, once everything is unhooked.
And I'm back 1.5 years later, putting another starter in. Avenger now 8 years old and has 140,000 miles on it, with various things wrong with it. ( Oil filter cooler leaking, Oil pressure sensor needing replaced, passenger window won't roll up ). Just seeing if I can at least get 180K miles out of it, before I decide to get another car. Outside of this starter, it's been a great car. Just came back to this video to see the wrench you used to take the nut off of the starter battery cable. LOL . . I need that wrench. Right now, that's the hardest part of the job.
@@HooptiesGarage I've replaced a few over the years. But it seems I have to remove them more often..lol..they have to be back off the trans during trans work..now the starters on the Cherokee 2.4 engines are a beast to do
I was able to completely remove the starter but the connector piece was fried and the wire was damaged. Now I’m having to call a mechanic 🥲 but anyways thx for the video I least I got to find out what the problem was
