Louder doesn't always mean sounds better. Yeah you might be heard in the next county running straight pipes with the cats, but if it sounds like crap, gives you headaches and drones like a Mofo; you basically made it worse. Like straight piping a VQ for instance.

4 dyno max race bullets are basically straight pipe. They just clean up that nasty raspy sound that straight pipe gives

Every time he says, "it hurts my ears" in these exhaust addicts' videos gives the vibe of nails on a chalkboard
