2001-2004 Dodge Dakota light replacement - Showing how to replace the dome light and map lights on your Dodge Dakota. This may also apply to Ram and Durango.
Been driving around a year without these dome lights and just want to thank you Tony~! NOw I might see better inside my truck at night ~!!! God Bless AMERICA~!!!
exactly what i needed to reinstall my rear overhead after it got knocked loose during some much needed cleaning, played with it for a half hour before finding this, never would have occurred to me to pop open the lens, but i never claimed to know anything bout cars :D
awesome video man, really appreciate the little note at the end about it still illuminating. my 04 does the same thing. also every step for my 04 is slightly different but your video gave me a good concept to go off of. Thanks again man, I did blue throughout everything but the 3 little one on over head and the climate control lighting
My front console lights are dim also.. the rear one won't completely shut off but the front ones are doing the same thing. But if I lightly tap on the console they flicker. I'm wondering if it might be an electrical issue?
I suspect that when you tap them, it's creating a temporary loose connection between the bulb and the cheap metal prongs that they rest in. I never had any issues with the battery in the truck actually dying, I think it's just the CAN bus style electrical system itself doesn't completely cut power and these come on dim since LED requires such little energy to operate. I believe that LED bulbs specifically meant for the CAN bus style system would fix this issue. Companies like Diode Dynamics specialize in this type of electrical system and "error free" bulbs. I just didn't know about it until I already got these bulbs.
Can’t remember the exact ones I ordered, but mine stayed on very dim all the time. Diode Dynamics may be worth looking into. They specialize in Chrysler lighting systems and maybe have some bulbs that won’t have that issue.
I can’t remember, some cheap LED’s from online I think. I would get a little nicer ones like from Diode Dynamics or something. Hopefully those ones don’t stay on all the time like mine did as they seem to be more specialized for mopars.
what if the interior lights dont turn off with the doors completely closed and you have to fidget with the dashboard light dimmer switch to get them to turn off?
There's always a small amount of current running through the truck and LED's use very little power so they will always be on dim unless you mess with the dimmer. It won't hurt anything though, I left my truck for 2 weeks like that and didn't kill the battery.
That's weird... I have a 2001 Dakota R/T with the same overhead console but it has the same 578 bulbs as the rear dome light, not the small 194s... Must be some weird in between model year things.
Tony The Truck Guy I returned the lights I got and got two more 578's. So far they seem to be working fine but we'll see. I know how picky these things can be at times.....
Can’t remember it was a while ago but I would check diode dynamics or Lasfit. The ones I used stayed on really dim even when the truck was off because dodge electrical systems are weird and there was still a tiny bit of voltage going to them. I’d try to find a set that are specially for dodge.
Never tried on an ‘08 body style unfortunately. I’m sure it’s possible to change them out, you just may have different bulbs. I’d pop your lenses off, see what you need and then order. And try to stick with a reputable company like diode dynamics, they specialize a bit more in Chrysler lighting and they make make bulbs that fonts stay on real dim like mine did.
I believe they were from “superbrightLEDs.com”, but I would try Diode Dynamics instead. The ones I had stayed very dimly lit, even in the off position. Diode Dynamics specializes more in the electrical of Mopar stuff, so their lights might not have that problem.
