Thank you for making this video... Its hard to find anything where someone isn't rambling off topic about something else irrelevant to the subject of matter and before you realize it you got suckered in 🙄 So thanks again for keeping it simple, to the point and most importantly informative!! Any other dodge dakota videos? I need alot of help fixing my 98 dakota 3.9 magnum
thanks for commenting, I'm glad it helped plenty more Dakota videos and other vehicles that you should find useful. have a look at my channel here ru-vid.com You can check out the the Automobiles playlist ru-vid.com/group/PLD7366062E94B6BDE or just search my videos
Why on earth Chrysler didn't make a pan with a drain plug is beyond me. Sure would reduce the mess. I'm replacing the pan on my 44RE transmission with the Dorman one that DOES have a drain plug.
Thanks, I have 114,000 miles on 2005 Dakota and started getting a trans temp light while sitting idle but then goes away. Local tranny shop said try new fluid and filter first hen let him know if that helped, he’s too busy to diagnose at an idiot light and it’s a basic service he said.
You're absolutely correct, just because the maintenance schedule says to do it doesn't mean that it needs to be done..You have to judge it based on overall driving type and conditions
Do you recall if the bolts on the pan are the same length? I know the bolts for the water pump are different lengths, so it's best to note where they go.
What could be wrong if my 1997 v6 3.9 4x4 will start fine then when put into gear jolts and dies but will start back fine and will run in park? Any help at all
Idle air control valve is on top of throttle body in the back by firewall but it could be a number of sensors, if you got a check engine light on check the fault codes. I have a 93 dakota 3.9 and I still drive daily it has 265,000 miles on the engine still strong but I'm having transmission problems because I ran it a little hot and that's why I'm on here researching if changing transmission fluid would help. I've got rough shifting from 2nd to 3rd
Also forgot to say change the pcv valve, it's located on the passenger side valve cover and it only cost a few bucks. Believe it or not I had trouble with it couple times. My engine wouldn't even run without new pcv valve.
I have a 01 Dodge Dakota 4.7L V8 but with the 5 speed manual I was wondering if their is any preventive maintenance I should do on it recently over the summer it had to take a new slave cylinder. I'm just thinking looking under my truck at it it's just one internal unit and all in cased nothing to really worry about. I do know probably down in the future I might need new synchros because first gear in my truck is kinda hard to put it coming to a stop.
sorry for the late reponse. Did you replace the clutch fluid when you replaced the slave? Also you may want to replace the throw-out bearing. However, if you are starting to have trouble with 1st gear that is more urgent. I would suggest going to your local Parts store (the one where most of your local mechanics go) and ask them if there is a good transmission place locally. go there and tell them your symptoms. The guys at my local place are always willing to talk for a few minutes and get me pointed in the right direction. Often they'll be willing to have you drop the Trans and bring it to them for service. That cuts repair cost in half at least.
Not to discourage you from DIY, you can do a lot of the checks and repairs yourself, it's just time consuming. All depends on what you want to do. Often a low milage salvage trans can be bought for a good price. Especially when it comes to a manual Trans. Just weigh your options and if you do want to tackle it then do plenty of research before you start. Let me know if that's how you want to proceed and I can suggest some good sites to get you started.
@@mreinsmith oh ok, thank you I’ve been looking everywhere online but there was never a clear answer. Btw one last question, I know that some of these models have 2 transmission filters, is that the case with the v6 4 speed. (Mine is a dakota 3.7L v6)
Always Note ,,,, the front and rear bands must be adjusted when this is done if you want your Tranny to last ... Dodges are bad for this and will need a rebuild soon if the bands are not adjusted ... :)
Hi , Dodge recommends the fluid be changed and bands adjusted every 25,000 to 30,000 miles ,,, the friction material wears off on the bands , thus they need to be tightened up , I did not know this either until I bought a used 98 Dakota , previous owner had never done the required adjustments , my tranny started slipping in 2nd gear , now I have no second gear and I have to pull the tranny and rebuild it . This is a common problem with Dodge trucks , lots of vids on here about Band Adjustments , just didn`t want you to run into problems later ...
The steps are exactly the same, but the transmission is different, which means the bolt pattern is different, probably the torque spec too and most likely all the parts. I suggest you either get a book or a subscription to alldatadiy.com both are inexpensive considering the risk of damage.
