Yeah it sounds like a dumb idea. If they want to be green they should first find an solution for the batteries, give it less power, make it smaller and not get parts from 3rd world countries.

@@tilburg8683 Well, they will still likely make gas engine cars. It's not like you could get more from a V8 engine than 800 HP V12 is just too heavy and too large for a coupe/sedan. Even a very small electric engine can produce 150-200 horsepower (those made specifically for cars, being half the size of a 4 stroke engine) now imagine a large electric motor the size of a V8. You could easily get 1000+ HP. Downside is that it won't make sound (though that depends on personal preference) and of course you may wait a bit to recharge. But apparently Tesla has designed some battery that can charge in 2 minutes so if dodge also follows then this downside won't make much of a difference. You could eat or drink while waiting. Which makes a charging station an excellent investment opportunity. Make a cafe and a fast food integrated into your typical gas( in this case charging station) and you will make big bucks If charging takes 5 minutes many people would use those 5 minutes to buy a beverage and cool down/relax. Sucks that i am a poor bastard tho. It's like an endless cycle. To get rich you need money but if you don't have money you can't get rich.

I really wouldn't call the Drag stip ICE an ICE. I'd more call them a barely controlled Nitro-meth engine. I couldn't find out how Thermally efficient a Top fuel dragster is but an F1 engine is about just over 50% in thermal efficiency or about 50% of the combustion heat per RPM is turned into work. Considering an average modern engine is 20% for a petrol engine and about 42% for diesel. To me, F1 engines are pretty much at the top of what can be squeezed out of an ICE before it just starts to eat itself every time it's run.

@@cailco100 top fuel dragster lack thermal efficiency thanks to their use of nitromethane and methanol. They make up for it by being over 200% volumetrically efficient though. Tractor pulling diesels are the same way. Their thermal efficiency sucks but they’re over 400% volumetrically efficient. It all depends on what kind of performance you’re after. F1 engines need to be thermally efficient because they’re racing for a long period of time, while top fuel dragsters need to be volumetrically efficient since they’re running their guts out for a maximum of 4 seconds at a time. It’s like the difference between running an 800m race and running a 100m dash

eNuff already, the Charger's charging cable was all the Dad joke I could take this morning. Why the big 3 American auto manufacturers don't use corn based ethanol is beyond me. Readily available renewable energy source that makes plenty of horsepower and burns clean. These days an internal combustion engine is corny I guess.

No way it's going to happen. EVs are dull by nature. Only thing going for them is the instant maximum torque and that's not nearly enough for capturing the feeling of an actual muscle car.

The grid will always get cleaner with time, the same can't be said about fossil fuels. Battery recycling will become streamlined, solar panels will last longer with higher efficiency, etc etc.

That is an Australian company which seems to mainly cover Australia from what I can tell and yes some battery recycling companies claim they can recycle up to the 95% but in practice it is most likely less (key word is up to) as the battery industry advances recycling batteries may become easier and more standardized and lithium is abundant... Kind of. It's abundancy tends to be scattered around in small amounts. In terms of mass quantity yes lithium sits around as the 25th-33rd most abundant element but finding it in large enough quantities to warrant mining it can be a challenge.

look 👀 my 67-70 charger isn't going BEV only as i like the 440 or 426 stroker's engines as it's part of the sole of it just like the viper or air cooled 911 Porsche has the reputation for being a widow maker and beating you up ect. but being fun to drive. but i can see a use case for hybrid in town with short hopps sub 5 miles ect. and that's why my new transmission has a motor on the back of it that and im keeping the climate controller on ect. when shopping just like a Tesla but unlike a Tesla i fit as my upper body torso is long at 45in's~ so my family doesn't fit comfortably hope dodge brings back the convertible challenger or cuda or has the guts that Richard salis designer and engineer for Dodge said that the 1968 and 1969 charger was so post to have a ( good looking arrow wide body kit as well but the accounting and big boss's chickened out at the last minute ) composet roof at the time wound have been fibreglass ( and there was a prototype that folds in the trunk like the SLS merc. )and a soft top retractable leather one as well similar experience to the mustangs that was sold with the town toper, as id love a return of the 2 door but use smaller suicide doors ( RX 8 style or similar experience/hinges ) for the baby seats in the back and i hope the EV drivetrain doesn't suck because i still remember dodge in the 1970-2006 not being a performer on the street like their reputation is now aka all show no go ie min 90's dodge 4 banger 4000 lb stratus

right LOL when i was growing up neons were for even more poor people that couldnt afford a civic which was already pathetic. Then came the damn stratus being a budget camry or accord like.... almost all the dodges were trash minus the viper. The only time i started to feel good was mid 00s with the neon SRT4 which i bought 2 of new. Then eventually the entire srt linup or today and hellcats which are just amazing. It will be weird. Also the new caravans are way way behind in tech compared to the rest yet the pacifica made by the same overhead is on par with the best. Just strange setup they have going.

True, but the sense I've gotten is that they're more about the loudness, the visceral feeling of a V8, even if it's not the most effective way of producing power. Not to mention nostalgia. Stellantis is a BIG EV player in Europe. Opel's, Peugeot's, Citroen's, DS cars, FIAT's all already come in EV versions. They are for sale and on the road right now. This means that the expertise to make efficient EV's is already available inhouse. PSA also has a ready made modular purpose designed EV-platform (eVMP) which can be used to make a small Dodge aimed at city/urban use. Dodge/Stellantis will succeed, faster then you might think.

Just think of it this way. The Mach E weighs a bit more than a typical dodge muscle car with them having similar power outputs. EV’s are heavy so add dodge’s overweight models plus EV power train and you’re looking at weights for a pickup truck. They’ll still be quick since it’ll be instant torque. Other than that I don’t think it’ll be much better

My biggest issue is the death of the car scene, with “upgrades” and “modifications” being nothing more then DCLs you buy to unlock power, and cosmetic mods being the only way to diversify. No longer will diy be a thing with EV, shop work will be required and project cars will cease to exist.

The big three of Detroit should bring in a dead “brand” from the past and make that their electric brand. That way they can sorta start clean in the eyes of consumers. Most consumers today have never heard of these dead brands either in a long time or at all. They can do whatever the hell they want in terms of philosophy and style language (this is important for the necessities of of aerodynamics that EV need for range and efficiency.)

Honestly, I'm excited for what they could do. There's a vacuum in the electric muscle niche, not all electric cars need to be futuristic looking and sleek! Sure the aerodynamics may not be as good with boxy muscle style bodies but it would fit Dodge great. Electric cars and muscle style don't need to be mutually exclusive!

While that's true is a sense, they can't actually do it. Honda uses the K24 engine in everything but the gas mileage of a CRV and that of a TSX are quite different despite having the same engine, aerodynamics at work. Most Ford trucks with a 7.3 powerstroke engine get better mileage than my Ford "truck" with a 7.3 powerstroke. Why? Because mine's an ambulance body with the aerodynamics of a walk in refrigeratior. There will be compromises, that's what car design is made of. They can compromise the range of the vehicle by making it a standard Dodge shape or they can compromise the shape to get the best aerodynamics possible and have a range in line with their competitors. I think the range is key to a point as it's the ICE users first issue since charge times are longer than refueling times.

Agree - I'm an electric fan and never was into muscle cars, but I feel like electric goes against what muscle cars are all about. Muscle cars aren't even about going fast, they're about being over-the-top, loud, flashy, attention-getting. Not going to get that with an electric, might offer better performance but that's not what muscle cars are for, at least not in the present day.

It's funny, we say that the EV market is already saturated with good choices, but the market for internal combustion engines has always been incredibly wide and varied, and no one batted an eye... if EVs are going to become the norm, there's going to be a lot of players in that space and the choice of who to buy is going to come down to price, fit out, performance and marketing, just like the auto industry always has.

So for reference on a lot of dodge vehicles it says HEMI on the side it has a HEMI. Stellantis should come up with a line of eHEMI, e for electric, with different levels of eHEMI, such as eHEMI level 1, eHEMI level 2 and so on

Just hope this EV shift means dodge might come back to europe with reasonable prices, as one of the main reason they never sold well over here were the huge taxes due to their big displacement engines, with drove their prices up and into luxury car territory.

@@brownstar69 it's unlikely they"ll make euro versions of Dodges, the last time they tried it was with the Lancia Thema, which was a rebadged Chrysler 300c and that was a big flop. People who want to buy a Dodge in Europe want to buy one because it's a Dodge, an american car. If they try to sell it as a european car it will loose part of it's appeal.

@@brownstar69 Well that just mean the people you know don't want to buy one, doesn't mean there aren't people in Europe who wouldn't want one. And most of those people probably don't care about the fact that they are indeed an old mercedes platform. Diferent people have diferent preferences.

So basically do with the Challenger name what Ford did with the Mustang Mach E? Wouldn't put that beyond them, that's what everyone is doing these days. Though maybe Dodge's being stubbornly stuck in the past and focused on nostalgia will for once be their saving grace in not following that trend of exploiting revered names in such awful ways.

@@quillmaurer6563 If they look at the example of the Challenger it is clear as day. Good design is timeless. The Camaro was nice looking 2010-13 but they kept making it uglier, even though it got lighter and better. Maybe the Euro snobs bought it, but most Americans didn't. I like the new mustangs, but they are smaller and more expensive. Dodge knows the performance value niche.

@@tomm1109 To each their own - to me the Challenger, as well as the 2010-2013 Camaro, look like bricks. I like the sleeker look - I'm a fan of the '90s Camaro styling, look like they're actually meant to go through air. But I'm not into muscle cars in general, not my thing, so the more in the muscle car direction it is - the Charger doing this best - the less I'd want it. But I can sort of grasp what the muscle car people are into - big, brutish, heavy, loud, powerful, arguably a bit crude technologically - even if it's not my thing personally. And from what I understand of that appeal, I have a hard time imagining electric living up to that. Functionally and performance-wise electric is better in most regards, but that's not what muscle cars are about.

@@quillmaurer6563 If done right I think it can be done. The new Ford Maverick really changed my mind about a car based truck, so maybe dodge can change my mind with a Charger done right. If it has rear wheel drive it will be a good start. I see what you are saying about muscle cars. Personally I think the 90s camaros look like an isosceles triangle in profile. Just kinda boring looking. The thing I like about muscle cars is that they are "Blue collar" performance cars with the practicality of a regular car. I'd take a Charger/Challenger over a Viper. Also the practical side of me sees that down the road it will be much easier to get parts for a mid 2000s Magnum SRT8 than say a BMW M5. Economies of scale with the hemi being used in hundreds of thousands of work trucks verses a few thousand M5 engines and special parts in existance. But i'm rambling now, good day.

I live less then a mile away from a dodge dealership and they got a sick white charger with black racing stripes and I’m pretty sure it’s the scat pack honestly prolly gonna have to go get it now
