Hands down THE BEST NV4500 rebuild videos on the web. Many thanks for taking the time to not only show tear down and assembly, but also explaining things along the way.
Thank you so much for posting this! The roll pins came out of my 5th gear fork, to play safe. I replaced the fork and had problems getting the slider back on, I couldn't see the flat spots are one tooth off of square. Seeing how you installed the OD unit was priceless !!! Thanks again. Gene
*you got all the upgraded parts to replace the internals with? might as well make it better while you're in there not something you want to have to do over very often* you still running your race car?
The only upgrade I have for it at the moment is the fifth gear retention parts, after it is apart I can have a good look at the rest, the main shaft may get replaced, I sold the Firebird about two years back.
sup my dodge peps had a question for everyone on this page or who ever. so if the front bearings goes out on the 2nd gen, with a cummins in it, i'm talking about the transmission, would it be safe to reuse the shafts and the gears . or would it be safe to get new ones. Me and the wife had picked up our oldest daugther from her school in WYOTECt and went to Las Vagas. going home too the resorvation which is the navajo rez. the transmission siezed and had to spend a night in the middle of nowhere. So to find out the front bearings had been grinded to S#@t. So can i reuse the shaft? thanks a whole lot if you answer my QUESTION? PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey nice video man, good work. Its possible to check with the smallest feeler gauge between housing and outer bearing ring after you removed bearing plates if you suspect rotation in housing. We always made that check on Volvo truck. Normally the bearing rotated in housing. Sometimes it was enough to just push shaft sideways and bearing popped out almost by its self. I don't know whats the material on your gearbox but we had allot of problem with aluminium housing. They implemented bearings with a locker pin and updated the specifications on the play to negative play. Have you done any flying lately to test your phone? :)
Thanks for your input, I will investigate you're spun bearing idea, if it has spun I may be able to bond the race to the housing but I don't really like that idea. This is a cast iron housing. Have not done any phone testing in flight but there are some on you tube that have showing no change in tilt after a long flight.
9:34 I’m having the same problem with the gear rubbing against the bearing retaining plate, the shaft is not wiggling in any direction. Do you happen to know what could be causing that to happen?
I can’t seem to pull it forward any and there’s little to no play up and down, thanks for the reply any help is appreciated, I haven’t been able to find anything about it on forums. There are noticeable gear marks on the plate.
