Because some people know everything removing a trans case or transmission or engine to them it isnt hard to do for them. I thank you!!! for taking the time to even care about those who don't partake in the world of the mechanic.

I have a 3/4 ton 4x4. I need to replace the overdrive housing and I can't get the transfer case separated from the overdrive housing. I took the 2 components off the vehicle as an assembly. Any suggestions on how to separate the two components? Great video by the way!

Could simply be your u-joints. Usually grind under load, and sometimes a vibration along with the grind.

Overdrive unit on transmission has a wavy snap ring that’s common to break and make all kinds of noise. Costs about 12$ at a trans parts store and takes a day to do the whole job if it’s your first time. If you aren’t strong I recommend getting a trans Jack to put it back in, I had no issue removing it without one but putting it back up was a pain. If I had to do it again I’d get a trans jack just for installation. Then again, I have a 3/4 ton with the hd transfer case so I’m know it’s a bit heavier. Btw no need to remove transmission for this job, just remove transfer case then you can’t unbolt overdrive unit.

What does the red vaccuum line do I. The video at 3:51 mins .. it's the red line bottom left side that is on the trans cross member
@j-bobsgarage7535
@j-bobsgarage7535 2 года назад
It goes to the CAD (central axle disconnect) on the front axle if I remember right. I believe red is disengage and black is engage. Not 100% sure if I'm correct on this it's been awhile, someone correct me if I'm wrong or give it a quick Google I'm sure you'll find your answer.

Hey so I’m swapping the tranny in my 99’ ram 1500 and got the driveshafts off and working on the transfer case currently but I stopped because i noticed some connections missing, could some of these connections cause the transmission not to shift?
@j-bobsgarage7535
@j-bobsgarage7535 2 года назад
No, trans and t case don't communicate
@bluewffl8472
@bluewffl8472 2 года назад
Unless he meant cause it not to shift into 4x4....vacuum lines control the transfer case engagement I'd assume...

Is this some kind of a joke? The Dodge Ram that I removed transfer case from has a cross member with a block on top..attached to the bottom of transfer case. That was the worst part of the whole job. He somehow left that part out. Yes..8 bolts and some vacuum lines would have been easy..but you'll need to watch another video to actually remove your transfer case. Maybe the 98 is a lot different. As far as I know..the 94-01 is the same.
@j-bobsgarage7535
@j-bobsgarage7535 2 года назад
You don't need to remove the crossmember to remove the t case, the block you are talking about is attached to the back of the trans. Unless you have an aftermarket crossmember supporting the t case but not really a common thing to do. So no, it's not a joke, you just gotta know what you are doing so you don't create more work for yourself.

@LVPIERCED

After watching this video 2 or 3 times before starting. I’ll say… Just as easy as it looks. Only thing I’d have add is this. When going for the bottom bolts of the Tcase unbolt the rubber bushing between the trans Mount and bracket. Jack up the back of the Tcase to create enough space and fit a wrench to drop the bracket. That should give you enough room to fit your wrench. Ratchet wrenches will be your best friend for majority of this job. If you’re situation is similar to mine where you cant go in to 4H/L at all to keep the front shaft from spinning you can unbolt it at the front dif and slide the whole thing out to the rear. Did this whole thing including removing both drive shafts in 2.5 hours with it parked on the street on a hot summer day in Vegas. Never touched a trans or Tcase before in my life…. Let alone a diesel. With a clear Sunday and a replacement on hand ready to go you could probably RNR this in 4.
