Thank you so much for the condolences. I'm actually back in South Florida today. We're laying him to rest. He will be missed. He taught my brother and I a lot about aviation and flying in general.

Nice ride, Wally, but why have you got someone in MY seat? This was supposed to be my leg!! I liked his question about the difference in a turboprop and a jet... "SPEED!! Things happen i a hurry, and this is only a Citation!" I'll also add, you've got Outstanding cockpit discipline. Any time the pilot looks like he's about to fall asleep, it's because he's so far ahead of the plane.... OK, fuel it up, and let's head for Lauderdale. I'M DRIVING!!

I make these videos so you can always be right seat! 🙂 I appreciate the kind words on the discipline. I try hard to learn / understand everything that's going on in the plane. Videoing myself has brought a whole other level to my ADD though :-)

talking to each other like a trucker... lol.. no. a little more sophisticated than a trucker... lol sorry.. i am LOLing at that analogy. Another great video.. I wish i could fly right seat in those.. that would be so much fun.

I thought the trucker analogy was pretty good on his part for a non-pilot. A single frequency that everyone talks on in their own lingo! It worked for me :-) As always, thanks for watching!

I'd be interested to see what the views are like going into the Bahamas on the simulator. You say "Bahamas" to people and most people think of Nassau, but the out-islands are so much more beautiful than the Nassau area.

I appreciate you watching! Honestly, I've played around with all of the settings on the GoPros, but I've found that the default settings work the best for me. As far as the location of them if you've watched all of my videos, you can see that I've moved them around a lot. I think the best camera view is the one behind me and if you're familiar with the CJ3+, it's just suction cupped to the top of the cabinet behind the copilot. I have the windshield and the one pointing at me on the copilot windshield and out of view from the behind camera, then One is mounted on the dash looking at the left wing and one pointed at the avionics. I pipe the audio in through the one looking at the left wing as I can control my headset volume. I use Adobe Premier to do my editing as it makes working with 5 cameras pretty easy (once you get used to it). I use the headset audio from the left camera, then I use the ambient noise of the cockpit from one of the other 4 cameras, and I just lower that down by about 10 decibels so it doesn't overpower the talking. I hope that answers your questions. If I missed anything, please feel free to ask more!

Enjoyed as always. Did you have any weather issues heading to FL?
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator 8 месяцев назад
I think I dropped them off and got over to Lauderdale before the weather moved in. It's been a really odd last 6 months of flying around. High pressure has been dominating the east coast and there hasn't been hardly any bad-weather flying.

Did you go to Mountain Air in the Citation? Sounds like just in the PC-12. Ever go into Spruce Pine?
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator 8 месяцев назад
No, I have not been into Mountain AIr in the Citation, and I don't think I'd want to. That place can be very unforgiving! I have seen / watch videos of pilots flying the older 500 Citations and MU2's into Mountain Air though. It can be done, just be on your numbers! I've flown the Pilatus, a Seneca, a 182 and a Turbo Arrow in and out of there several times. I have not been into Spruce Pine as of yet, but I hear rumblings that might be coming in the next year or two.

Been going to north Eleuthera for close to 50 years. I was there in January and I can tell you the runway is in poor shape lot of potholes and of course coming into the ramp there it’s a tight fit. Bahamas govt supposed to renovate soon but to be determined !! Curious if the runway conditions was any good yesterday?
@ctpete333
@ctpete333 8 месяцев назад
In the old days before 1990 runway was 4000 ft long. Now you have embraer 175’s coming in. The view is always special
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator 8 месяцев назад
Besides Nassau and Eleuthera and Georgetown now, North Eleuthera is one of the better runways I've been into. The ramp was kinda bumpy, but at least you're moving slow on that. Most of the runways in the Bahamas were built with coral. I used to fly into the OLD Georgetown (before they build Exuma International) and that was really bad. Back in the 80's if someone wrecked, they just pushed it off to the side of the runway and left it there.

Do you practice hand flying jet to stay sharp without the autopilot?
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator 8 месяцев назад
Whenever I fly with a copilot (maybe about 30% of the time) I always fly up to 10 or 20 thousand by hand, and at least every 6 months I go up and shoot a bunch of practice approaches. I also occasionally hand fly single pilot. Also, every year that I go to recurrent training, about half of the maneuvers you do are hand flying, including 3-4 approaches to minimums and a single engine go-around.

When u hit FLC on dep, what speed gets set and how, so u can then enable AP and climb out at desired? Thanks!
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator 8 месяцев назад
This is a great question and one that should ultimately be answered with a video demonstration. It's kind of a long answer, but I'll take a shot here :-) The answer is a 2 part answer, and it depends on if you're using FLC in conjunction with the VNAV button. WITHOUT VNAV (infrequently used): This acts just like an IAS button. If you hit FLC without VNAV, a speed bug appears at your indicated airspeed and that is held. You can change it using the rate wheel on the autopilot. This is mainly used in an emergency to hold V2 and Venr speeds on a single engine. WITH VNAV (Normal operations): The autopilot decides what the best speed is to hold. The way it determines this speed is as follows: 1. Are you on a departure procedure and is there a required climb speed. If so it will hold this speed. 2. Are you within 4nm of your departure airport and below 3,000 feet? If so, it'll hold 200 knots in the climb. I realize the FARs say 2,500 feet, but there is a little buffer built into the autopilot system. 3. All other scenarios, it'll hold 222 knots or .56 Mach all the way up to altitude, which is the best climb in this aircraft. THE ONLY CAVEATs: 1. Since the CJ3+ does not have auto throttles, if you need to transition to level flight and maintain airspeed (departure procedure or with 4nm of departure airport), you must pull the throttles back to maintain that speed, although the speed bug will still be on the tape. 2. The G3000 system isn't smart enough to realize that you are "under a class B" and should be maintaining 200 knots. You must manage this yourself. If you go right to VNAV and FLC, it's going to climb at 222 knots (not 200), so this is a big gotcha where you really should be using FLC without VNAV. I hope this answers your questions and if you have any more please let me know!

One question, why when you touch down apply full flaps?
@AccidentalAviator
@AccidentalAviator 25 дней назад
That's a great question! In the CJ3+, we have 3 flap settings (15, 30, and 55). 15 is used for takeoff and approach. 30 is used for landing. When we touch down we go to flaps 55 and the spoilers also deploy. The 55 degrees of flaps and the spoilers help to keep the main gear on the ground. You never use 55 in the air, and if you accidentally deploy them you have a 140 knot limit on the plane. If you watch one of my videos where I actually go through the pre-taxi checks, you'll se me check that going to flaps 55 is deploying the spoilers.
