@@Noah_316 You won't notice a difference in games like CS:GO which are compact and optimized, other than initial load time, but something like Path of Exile which has a lot of textures, uses texture streaming and dynamic loading, a faster SSD matters a lot. If you're not willing to spend top dollar just get a decent M.2 NVMe SSD with dedicated DRAM and something like 1.5-2.5k write speeds, the newest ones that reach 5k are deep into diminishing returns.

@@Noah_316 I’m kinda late, but for gaming Sata is more than enough, it will never utilize the speed Nvme provides, use nvme for your video or photo storage where the high speed read will really really benefit. you can see comparison video as well, if nvme is around 4 times the speed, then games should load 4 times faster, except they don’t, they only load a few seconds quicker than Sata.

@@Noah_316 for gaming? no games as far as I know actually take advantage of gen 4 read speeds, so any ssd will be good enough as long as it's a decent quality one with dram. 10:22 it's all perception based. The SATA being the first one tested had no point of reference, and so the perceived snappy-ness of it was amplified. Any slow downs or hitches in the second system were immediately picked up on and thus it felt slower. The third one would provide a little bit of confusion or doubt as to which was the fastest as it had two points of reference.

LaBlobb Here, I'll save you the bother and share my comment directly to you haha. I warn you it's long because I discuss into things! My old (SATA) Samsung Evo 850 has met it's match by a game.... Kingdom Come Deliverance! In the more busy towns I get bloody loading screens that actually take a little bit when I make my character wash him self off in a trough.... (Gotta stay clean in this game or people won't respect you!) Heaven forbid running this game on even my higher performance hard drive...... This game would of made a great test I feel! Because till now, every game I bothered to put on this SSD because I was noticing annoying load times it handled without any issues and it's an old school SATA drive from 7+ years ago! The next generation of games is coming with the next gen consoles that all will have higher performance SSD's! Soon I feel SSD will become more mandatory.... A game like Doom tho I'd gladly would of just left on my Toshiba X300 HDD..... Waiting a little longer for a level to load in is no big deal.... Loading times popping up in the middle of an open world game, or seeing pop in that could perhaps be caused by a slower speed drive.... anything like that..... Unacceptable! So they go on my SSD..... My next build will have a Samsung EVO 970 M.2 drive (When I got the extra cash) I really look forward to seeing the difference it will make on Kingdom Come Deliverance! The old Evo 850 will be retired to be 100% my "fast" gaming drive. With the Evo 970 being my OS drive, and reserved for the most demanding games! (Same role the old Evo 850 has done for 7+ years) Also FUCK DRAMless SSD's! GARBAGE! Replaced a failed old higher end SanDIsk SSD with DRAM, with a Kingston A400, on a first gen I5 laptop..... Yes I noticed a huge difference running windows on it! Didn't think it would matter since the laptop was so old..... But the DRAMless A400 acts as a bottleneck now! Better then a HDD...... Maybe kinda yes.... The difference was surprisingly huge! (100% done as experiment!) Now.... On that topic.... I wonder how important DRAM is on a SSD for games! Loading the data in the game I assume is more of a straight and easy to follow path, cache won't be used as MUCH as vs running Windows..... (Extreme multi tasking) Of course cache will help! But I think that would be an interesting comparison! Because I wonder in this SSD based future for games if I can save a few bucks on a DRAMless SSD for SOME modern games. (I'm sure Kingdom Come would make the A400 it's bitch......) So I do mean SOME....
@leblobb

@@TheIdleCrow Ye open world games are really nice to have on an SSD. When I have bought my first SSD, I noticed a huge performance improvement even in Diablo 3 (and in system boot time, of cause). It was interesting to notice, that even with a game with small maps is going to profit from an SSD. Some question about my setup and how to improve it: I have two SSDs in my current system, but want to upgrade to 970 evo just for games and applications. My concern is if there are some disadvantages using multiple SSDs in a single system. Since I don't want to throw away my old SSDs (128GB Samsung 850PRO and 500GB Samsung 850EVO) my plan is the following setup: 850PRO -> For Windows and drivers 850EVO -> For Downloads and other temporary stuff 970EVO plus (1tb) -> For games and appications In theory this should give me the maximum performance out of these drives. The system will be using different interfaces to access data either for windows/drivers or games/applications or other data, which should cause less load on each of them. This is just the idea. Don't know if this gonna work or even make any difference in performance. Never seen some tests on such a setup. But this seems the best usage of the old SSDs to me if I will buy that new sexy NVME drive. Anybody has some other useful ideas. Because I will put the 970EVO into my system anyway, just still want to have some meaningful usage of my old SSDs.
@TheIdleCrow
@TheIdleCrow 4 года назад
@@leblobb Wouldn't have imagined performance games in Diablo 3, it still sits on one of my HDD's not even my best HDD! Now onto your question, I have never heard of any disadvantage to having multiple SSD's. The only real disadvantage of an SSD in general is they can only re write data so many times compared to a hard drive. But its starting to become less and less of an issue as they advance even more so with the front runners like Samsung! So in theory if you loaded up one of your SSD's with games and never changed (delete and replace) things and kept it more less the same the SSD should last you "forever". My opinion is the Evo 970 should be used for your windows Install, It has crazy high performance being a NVMe drive! Its far faster then all your older drives, and will see the most benefit behind Windows it self plus games. (Plenty of space for both, just put the most demanding games on it) This drive also has a crazy rewrite lifespan of up to 1,200 TBW! compared to the 850 EVO of 75 TBW! The difference is night and day now! With these new SSD's I wouldn't be surprised if they can out live a HDD since they got no moving parts! So EVO 970 100% use it for Windows! & the most demanding games! I wouldn't use any of your old SSD's for downloads and temporary stuff because of there limited rewrite life spans.... Just get a cheap 1tb HDD and keep that in there for temp stuff! Perfectly fine for pictures and videos and such. I would use both the 850 Pro and the 850 EVO for games! If you leave your games on your drives like I do, they would hopefully last "forever" in quotes because I know nothing lasts forever. Best use for them! So my conclusion is don't worry about the EVO 970, it's a kick ass drive and is your best option to handle both Windows, and Games. Because of its long rewrite life, and ultra high performance!

Depends on the game. I play a lot of MMOs and HD speed is an issue. After my new build I noticed textures taking time to load, which I never saw on my older, slower system. Then I realized the game was sitting on an old sata ssd. Moved it to my NVME and problem solved.
@lullylew9083
@lullylew9083 3 года назад
You're right. I've noticed similar improvements with games like Kingdom Come where textures are being loaded in as you move all the time. The improvement is so good that I'd say at least sata SSD should be recommended spec if it isn't already. I would like to see comparisons on that with the different drives.
