This was basically a carbon copy of Single White Female, but I still enjoy it. I love psycho roommate movies, even the even-badder made-for-TV ones.

The fedora and the scarf I immediatly thought ummm fashion school??😅I had forgotten this movie, I saw it when it was fairly new but I had two babies at the time and I doubt I absorbed much of it.

I graduated high school in 2009 and I remember my friend group having a fedora that we would steal from each other and wear as a joke. So I think they were considered more of an ironic accessory than this movie makes it sound lol.

Not sure if someone mentioned it but The Roommate was a remake of the iconic (rated R) Jennifer Jason Leigh film Single White Female. I remember people saying this was a teeny bop version of the original. I never watched it, I was too loyal to the original 🤷🏻‍♀️ But I’m gonna watch it now 😊

i think I saw The Roommate in theaters. I definitely watched it on DVD. It's one of those movies where I forget how absurdly bad it is until I remember it, and then I kinda wanna watch it again. Leighton Meester is so good at being unhinged.

Idk why but I sort of remember people talking about this in 2011 but I don't at all recall it being this type of movie. Though much like your Abigail review, I recognize a good number of the cast in this. I mean the first one was Aly Michalka from her time on Disney and iZombie. But the other people in this I was actually a bit surprised with. Like Matt Lanter who I knew from The Clone Wars animated show. Nina Dobrev and Kat Graham from Vampire Diaries. And Minka Kelly who was in the DC show Titans. Didn't know anything about this movie but I at least recognized the people in it. But thanks for a slightly chaotic recap of it!

i used to love this movie because as gay child i loved Aly Machalka and Leighton Meester for literally no reason other than thinking they were iconic in my brain at that time. The belly button ring scene was iconic to me... in my little mind. Obviously growing up I've seen way crazier things and watched a lot of Horror but I still like watching this as a comfort?/Fall asleep to movie... it just tickles something...

I literally never heard of it or seen it until my sophomore year of high school back in 2013 when my girlfriend at the time introduced me to it, one of the worst thrillers I've ever seen.

I remember when It came out back in 2011. I immediately saw the parallels to “single white female”. It was entertaining but not as much lasting power as swf

I remember those hats and some of the clothes being a thing in the 2000s. I had some friends(male and female) who would wear fedoras/pork pie hats and a thrifted suit vest over a t-shirt. I even sported a suede vest over a t-shirt a few times(I had them in black and brown. My uncle gave them to me). Also, believe it or not, there was even a sequel to this. Aptly titled The Roommate 2. Love your videos❤❤❤❤❤❤ Keep up the great work.

I also really appreciate your take on the mental illness trope. Stats actually show that people with those two diagnoses tend to have lower than the average population risk for harm to others...meaning you are more likely to be hurt by someone that doesn't meet criteria for any mental health disorder than someone with schizophrenia...but movies (especially in the 2000s) just can't help perpetuating this anyway.

lmaoo this is hilarious I remember when this was a thing. this defo unlocked a memory haha. also fun fact about being covered in gasoline that movies never get right: you’d probably die from lack of oxygen just from being covered in gasoline before you die from being burned alive. would actually be an interesting twist on that kind of death scene to have it play realistically. but always takes me out of scenes like that haha like being covered in gasoline and not lit on fire is actually not nbd. yeah there was a time when psychological horror = mental illness bad. it really helped create such a terrible stigma. though if you go back to spellbound by hitchcock and they literally had a psychologist as a consultant. so using psychology as not just a scare tactic is doable haha. bad movies like this can actually be great and really inspiring, it’s great to know what doesn’t work and what ages poorly lmao also you should for sure do a peepee poopoo man revisited video where you also cover the channel lore about the movie and origin of the potty inspired nickname, it’d be dope!!

I had forgotten this one, but it is so much like the much older Single White Female with Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Never seen nor heard of it. The story and plot are like a recent update to Single White Female when the femme fatale genre returned in the 90s after Fatal Attraction. Single White Female was about obsession and identity theft from a female roommate. Japan recently did a ultra violent version of two female roommates who know each other. They argue, then fight and try to kill each other over a number of issues. Wear a fedora for those. But I recently got The Strangers: Prey At Night Special Edition blu ray at Big Lots for $5 bucks a few years before it closed down.
