I'll never own another black car. If you care about the appearance and condition of your paint then having a black car is literally a second job. However, nothing looks as badass as a black car that is properly cleaned and polished.
Turtle Wax has stepped up their game in The Last 5 Years and for an inexpensive wax or spray wax or detailer they are really almost at the top of the market and even surpassing products from Chemical Guys Meguiars and mothers. You really cannot go wrong with Turtle Wax spray products the application is as easy as you can get in the results are outstanding for the money
Just got a black Mustang and this is harder to maintain than a baby, I swear I wash the car and 2 days later it looks like I haven't washed it in a month lol
Im a pro detailer 30 years. Clay and wax your car polish if necessary. Dollar Tree has super soft white car towels way better than microfibers. Lightly run the towel to pick up dust b4 your daily drive. You can also use a quick wax spray when needed. Use Spray Wax like furniture polish.
I've used nothing but turtlewax ice and black ice and saved a lot of money thanks to you. Hopefully turtlewax wont increase their price or change their formula.... such a great product. THANKS FOR THE GREAT TESTS!
Does it work? I too have a black car. So far I love the ceramic turtle wax but it kinda leaves some residue behind if you don’t clean it fast enough. I wanna try the black turtle wax but I’m not sure if it compares to other ones.
I've been driving since 1982.Turtle wax was what I was using then and still use today. They have kept up with the times and while other brands have come and gone....Turtle wax has stood the test of time.Cant go wrong with ANY product that's been around for 40+ yrs.Its obvious why they're still around.Armor all and Turtle wax was all we were using back then.
Jimbo, I love my black truck. I had an 07 ram that was black and now I have a 17 Ram. I can tell you the Turtle Wax black line is a great line. A great 1-2 punch is Meguiars ultimate polish with ultimate wax. If you are looking for off the shelf products. Nothing hides imperfection better than a silver metallic paint. No, I won't sell my black truck. Got plans involving it and it's hemi.
So I picked up some more Turtle Wax products today and spotted the Black Wax... so I went home, dusted my car then went at it with the TW Black Wax....... Ummmmmm HOLY SHIT BATMAN!!! I thought the regular Ice made my car pop.... Well holy crap! My car is seriously TWICE as shiney and from about 6 feet away it looks like it was just painted. It certainly did tone down the swirl marks and scratches... close up you can surely still see them but stand 4 feet back and I challenge anyone to see so much as one flaw in the clear coat... I'm sort of in shock... Took maybe 8 minutes to do the whole car and once again I made sure I had nice new MICRO FIBER towels. The deep rich shine and mirror finish just made me giddy when I walked out to admire my MKV Jetta 2.0T Wolfsburg...
Jimbo, I use Meguires Black wax to "re-hydrate" the clear coat. It is a very sensitive "wax" and can easily be stripped off. Look at the chemical composition of each and you can see that one is more of a "re-hydrate" and the other is more of a "topper" . Black wax needs a topper like "Ice" clear then you get a really nice gloss and it lasts a few weeks.
Looks like your production is getting better by the month, nice job man. As far as waxes designed for a specific color paint...I never understood how respectable companies could come out with products like these. Just call it a cleaner wax or a glaze/filler
The best method I've found for dealing with my first ever black car is throwing my hands up in disgust and no longer giving a damn because 3 seconds after I'm done, a dust storm, flock of birds or a tree blasting pollen is gonna ruin my hard work. And don't get me started on winter time and road salt..
I just purchased my first black car over a month ago, I love it. I think they both look pretty close but I'll go with a turtle Wax because to spray it on would be easier.
Thank you for letting these ppl know that sheeting isn't necessary bad it's just a different water behavior due to the surface tension a particular product creates.
I’ve got a black car and let me tell you, Never Again! Your video helped me a lot, because I thought a paste wax was actually doing a better job than any spray wax. In my opinion, it doesn’t. And the longer you give your wax to dry and cure, the better it does. Thanks for the video.
i had a black also and wish I got a white car back in those days, its nice when it`s washed but not last long... Not to mention if you haver hail damage it s a pain in the ass good I had a silver one I couldn t notice directly if had a black one I would go nuts and sold my car asap.
Haven't had a black truck or car in over twenty years, but was thinking of buying one next year. Thanks for reminding me how hard it is to keep it looking good.
With the Meguiar's white and black waxes, the black wax has more fillers and the white wax has more cleaners. So you can use those on whatever color you want. Now the actual waxes that are colored black, idk.
Use the ice black spray wax as a base coat on ur black paint and top it up with the seal and shine so u get the looks and depth of the black spray wax and the gud old durability of the seal and shine
People talking about maintaining black. After it gets dusty but still overall clean, you can go over it with a swiffer duster. Less chance of scratching and does a good job.
I gotta triple black C6 convertible corvette and turtle wax spray wax does the job. It makes the paint pop mirror! However I don’t drive my vette in any kind of bad weather and it stays garaged.
Maybe it would be more fair to do filler wax tests on corrected paint with minor swirls vs. totally hammered paint. Not complaining, just a thought. Thanks for doing what you do.
I believe with the right pad you can actually do some minor corrections with the Black. If my hunch is right you’d us that with a dual action polisher and a foam pad and seal it up with seal and shine 2 coats. You’d be good for about 3 months. Considering the price the Turtle Wax offerings right now are the best bang for your buck under $10 bucks. Awesome little product for the shop.
Great video, Turtle Wax is my vote. Some people are Idiots! He didn’t ask how his mic sound or what kind of car you had before. ITS SIMPLE ((TURTLE WAX OR MEGUIRS???))
Nice video, thanks. I have tried both One variable not mentioned is color overspray. The dyed spray product discolors surounding non-black items, and in the case on my Black and Gold Trans Am, discolors the gold graphics. I use the Mequiars and can go right over the graphics without staining. It actually fills the aged black portions of the graphics without staining the gold. It also dries dark, so if some remains in crevices, it's not as noticeable as standard wax. I believe this is why they used a darkish base.
I may get try the turtle. I got a 2020 black car but I take it on ski trips and all the salt and slush and snow and rocks dirty up my car and I have to run it through automatic car washes and I got so many swirl marks now.
Thank you for the video. Question, I thought you were supposed to polish and then apply the wax over it? Here though, you are saying use one or the other? I have a black car and want the shine and best protection I can get, so could I use both products at the same time, as a polish and then wax?
My black Alfa Romeo giulia ti is my dream car glass roof helps. So many compliments. Just keep up on it with detail sprays etc in between gloss and wax. Lots of microfiber lol.
I have a black Range Rover and I wasn’t impressed with neither one when I tried it . The black wax from chemical guys works way better but I’m using top coat from CG and it’s a thing of beauty
This is very close to my heart. I have a black car my neighbor says I will wear of the paint. But, it is beautiful when shined . I like the turtle wax products,,,,
Yeah Jimbo great video I’m impressed with how you treated the product in just about real world situations. Turtle wax is great product and the Megiuers was great too but I think if you use a DA with it definitely would be better . But when clean up black is kick ass .
funny observation the control section while it did sheet water the water did not sit on the paint when the sheet of water ran off where the protected sides the beads of water stayed on the car.
One of the better tests I have seen you do. It was hard to see if Turtle Wax filled until the last "after" shot. That made a difference. Keep it coming keep getting better. Would be fun to see if it fills on a green car?? label says dark colors that's vague.
Who can tell what product really does what on your janky panel I don't understand with all the tests you do on this panel why you can't compound it to get rid of those buffer Trail so we can see what we're looking at instead of holograms
Turtle Wax has the better appearance and better chemical durability. If I used either one, I would have to wash and reapply it every single week since durability is so poor overall. Turtle Wax ICE Seal n Shine is superior to their ICE Black product.
Get yourself a car plug blower to dry your car after washing it for those who doesn’t have time to wipe, sometimes or most of the time these scratches come from wiping your car dry. Because you’re either wiping too hard or you didn’t clay bar your entire exterior to remove gunk before washing or waxing. But do park in the shade on a sunny day because water spots are enemies of all black cars. Do wax and detail spray your black car thoroughly to keep it cleaner longer and dust/dirt free and keeping it from sticking on your black cars. Buy car covers if you have a drive way or garage, but make sure it’s not a car cover that scratches your cars paint too!
Don't get a black car. Even with all the problems, they look good enough to make them worth it. Because mine is new, I use the Ice Seal & Shine and Ice Spray Wax. I don't think I'll need the Black polish for a while, but it's good to see that it works.
You can use that TW Ice Black spray polish with a machine as well. It does have cleaning and polishing agents and paired with a soft foam pad you'll get beautiful results. I loved using the original Turtle Wax (not Ice) Carnauba Cleaner Spray Wax with a soft pad. It was a very gentle easy safe way to polish/clean delicate paint with an even consistent finish. Plus it was like $4 a bottle. One of my favorite retail products, but I never see it in stores anymore. Thanks for the video! 😁👍👌✌
Can you do some videos on glazes and how they claim that they fill. But what is a glaze? I have had a good experience with blacklight because it really enhances the paint.
The turtle wax ice is#1 for me. My friend thought i bought a new vehicle and everyone is trying to get there car shiny like mine. It's great for the windows too.
My black motorcycle has decals on it. Can I use that Turtle Wax on it? And is it necessary to completely remove the wax residue everytime I clean the bike or I cam just leave it there and re-polish the surface using the same product? Thank you!
I have a black laminate worktop with some small scratches and some faded yellowing around that, bicarbonate of soda didn't work, would the mguires clear wax work on that you think? 🤔thanks
i dont know much about waxing/polishing but i love meguiars products. i think the TW did a better job but only bc it has that black pigment in it. thank you for the video! keep up the good work!
If it's a lapel mic, it could be attache to the inside of the shirt and still perform without picking up some of the high end frequencies people are complaining about.
I'm an audio engineer and this is because he is over-compressing the audio in post production / editing. The problem will be solved once he uses more sensible limiter/compressor settings.
I am confused. What difference would a tinted wax have on a clearcoat finish. Seems to me that it would not be as good as a un-tinted product. Not a criticism but I am truly confused. These videos need to be tested on all paint finishes.
Sometimes companies will add tints, fillers or very fine abrasives in their black line that help black paint look better - and also marketing. People with black cars will opt for a “black wax” over a regular wax just because. You’re right, clear coat is clear coat and these would work on any color car.
Speaking of black Sprinters, I have 3 black Sprinters to fully detail in the next couple weeks, and they are Mercedes black single stage with no clear coat so there is considerable fading... what would you suggest? I need to polish and protect, looking for quickest and easiest of course, charging $800 each??? I'm a professional collision and refinish, only do detailing when I have to 😭. TC Annapolis, MD
I am not surprised by Turtle Wax, they also have decent interior products. Their tire and wheel cleaner isn't too bad either, for maintenance cleaning.
Have you tried Turtle Wax Color Magic Jet Black Polish? I picked this up at O'Reilly's before I saw your video on the TW Ice. Seems good but I'm curious how the Color Magic compares with theTW Ice. Do you know what the difference is? Almost sounds similar. TW Color Magic says it "cleans, shines, restores and adds color, instantly hides imperfections".
