Yes, yes, yes. I get so freaking angry about all the people asking me about my work/parenting decisions, when I had nothing to decide. I just do whatever I need to. I can't afford childcare and we need money. So I work on my husband's days off. We have zero time for ourselves and I reallyreally don't want to job around in low paying positions. And yet I feel privileged, because with a lot of planning and power we can change the situation. For so so many women, this isn't the case and there was NEVER anything to decide about the work situation. The only decision so many mums have is weather or not having a child is worth all of this work. And yes, my son is worth every minute of this stressful season in our relationship.

Congratulations and thank you for sharing! About the better day to publish content. I don't really know how easy it is to find a time that suits most people, but I know that, to me, it feels like all the youtubers I follow publish their videos on sundays and it makes me feel like there is nothing to watch all week, even less on saturday and then here I am, Sunday night, trying to catch up on everything and realizing it's past bedtime.

As a self employed therapist in pp, I work my hours (12-6 most days with gaps inbetween/ some 11ams & some days I finish earlier) and clients have to either fit them or they find someone else. At the start though, I would bend more to their times, for fear of not getting enough, but actually I regret that because I still have some long term clients at times that aren't my optimum choice! So I would always say stick with your gut and your needs. The work will come and you will feel so much better for it too ♡ also totally feeling you on the book front! Studying an MA just put any reading about sex on pause, even though I live it daily! 👈🏻

It's really helpful to me to have watched you over the past... what, 5 years? Something like that. I remember when you split up the channels, I've been interested in how you approach things etc. I'm about to make a relatively large move myself at the end of this academic year, and it's pretty scary, but also pretty exciting. I like the idea of ending on a high note. Of celebrating. Instead of bashing the past (will be 25 years in this town, for me) and focusing on how it does NOT suit me, to celebrate all I've done here in that time, all I've explored, clarified and built. And I take all that I've learned with me, too. So. Good attitude. Many thanks!

Not quiiiite the same, but Bethan did a great job of going from full time RU-vidr to more behind the scenes. I loved finding out that she was your editor (and sister in law 😂) as someone who used to LOVE her content. Also, Jan and Feb will be networking time! Just because you won't be making content or working for people doesn't mean that time won't involve working, it'll just look different. As someone who works in the advertising/marketing industry with a lot of project managers, I'm so excited to watch your transition. It feels more in line with my lifestyle now I'm in my 20s so I'd definitely be more likely to join the patreon too! x

Hannah, please tell me, where does this trust comes from, that you truly have something of great value to offer and there are people who (will)want that thing that you are offering? This is the biggest mystery to me. It seems so scary and many rejections are so inevitable. The vulnerability of this decision, not the financial one, but the emotional, is staggering. Where do you derive your value from to be seemingly immune to those kinds of fears? Maybe one of your next videos could cover that?

42:16 I feel like the youtuber Molly Burke could probably give you some decent advice on what it's like working behind the scenes in a niche industry. While she still is a regular uploader for her content, she does lots of industry events, speeches, and consulting behind the scenes on being an advocate in her niche (Which, for her, is the disabled community, as she is blind.) While your subject matters are really different, I think the way you'd both go about finding work would be very similar in practice. Just a thought :)

Regarding not wanting to upload on a Sunday evening, I assume the scheuling feature in YT studio wouldnt work for you as you want to be present? But could you maybe schedule a video to upload Sunday evening and then repond to comments and be present on Monday morning? That way you're not checked out for the whole weekend, only one evening, but you still get the best viewership?

I like checking in with comments as much as possible soon as a video goes out so that wouldn’t be possible unless I wanted to put aside time Sunday evening to do that. Also I don’t schedule videos because they go out to patrons early and so I have to manually make them live and promo on Instagram

i hate video premieres. someone inused to watch does premieres and then videos with no comments. and y'know, no shade, she can do what works for her, but I am in another timezone and having the conversation centered around a specific time feels like I am not a part of a community I want to be a part of and I talk to. tbh they lessen my enthusiasm for the video itself

I'm curious if having a baby played a part emotionally in your desire to scale back/quit. I hear so often Mom's say that after having a baby their priorities change & they feel differently about life and work, so I wonder if that's your experience as well. Do you think you lost interest in your sex educator work because you're a mom now?
