Does HYPERIA look SLOW?? - Thorpe Park 

Not only did it go up the lift hill at the pace of Dan making a video, but thats also literally the first time a train has ever been around that track. It will speed up people, don’t panic.

The aim of the first test is to see if the train can clear the track with as little speed as possible. To see how theoretically slow it can go to make sure that it doesn’t valley. The dummies would also be all filled to the weight of the bottom/top 2.5th percentiles of weight accordingly to mimic worse case scenarios. When it’s operational the lift hill will give it some extra speed to fling it over the edge and it will have no problem clearing the entire track.

They always test the rides slower at first whilst they take analytics from it. They have the vehicle fitted with computers taking readings on the track, wheels, temperatures, stress points etc. They will do faster tests later on

If you saw Nemesis Reborn's testing, it looked like it wasn’t going to make the vertical loop, and it’s running smoothly now, so maybe this will happen with Hyperia.

Great video! I wonder if there's some type of speed control on the trains and there trying to see the slowest they can run it so it won't valley. Just a thought

Yesterday Drayton Manor Resort released a teasor video on the reimagined Stand Up Coaster Shockwave which is now known as The Wave with the new sit down trains and in this video we got some teasor shots of the bright yellow coloured trains with them lap bar restraints and then we got to see some awsome shots of the ride testing and i must say, those yellow trains do look awsome on that bright blue coloured track which at first did look like it had had a pressure wash but at second glance it doesnt seem like it unfortunatley. I do hope that the track gets a clean up before this coaster opens to the public as it is looking rather grubby but i dont see them doing this now even though it shouldnt take too long as with them putting in the new theming with the new entrance and that advertising board, if they were to pressure wash it now, it may mucky this new theming so it is looking likley that it will remain with that mossy, brown look unfortunatley! Other than that, even though its a shame that we have lost the UK's only remaining stand up coaster which i thought was a great coaster experience, the great coaster layout will remain the same but you will be going round on these new sit down trains and it will be taking them elements with just a lap bar which will be insane and i cannot wait to experience this hopefully at somepoint this year! What are your thoughts on The Wave and them new sit down lap bar trains and will you miss Shockwave with the over the shoulder stand up trains or are you just happy to see the coaster layout itseld remain! I would love to know in the comments below!

Type in on RU-vid oblivion first test. That looked slow too. Must be a new coaster thing and it eventually gets faster. I'm sure hyperia will feel a lot faster when we go on it anyway lol. I enjoy your videos Dan. Thanks for the frequent uploads!

I’ve just came back from a 2 day stay at Alton towers and as I live 30 mins away from phorpe park, we might go on Sunday!

The first time will have been due to the slow lift hill rise. They would have needed to enter and clear each block section manually for the computers to understand. Also, it's 'possible' that they're testing without water in the test dummies, to ensure that the train can make it around empty. I'm sure it'll speed up a bit as the tests progress. Also, listen to the wheels squeaking as the train leaves the station. The wheels need time to set in and erode to profile of the track.

Another thing that’s worth bearing in mind is the scale of these elements, they will make it seem slower visually.

I saw Hyperia testing through the telecope on Henry's Mound in Richmond Park today. It looked quite fast from 10 miles away.

One thing that you didn't mention is the trim brakes around the track. Initial test runs would be run with these fully off as they just want the train to make it around. Once it's in service they will be adding resistance, so it's too early to say what ride speed will end up like. Trims can make or break a ride (think InTRIMidator 305).

The reason the ride slowed down a lot between the non inverting innelman and high outer Bank turn could be because there are trim brakes on the way down from that element. If they are turned off and when the ride tests more, Hyperia will fly a lot faster. I'm so excited for this coaster :)

Since people apparently don’t know, when a ride tests for the first time they test different chain lift speeds to find the right speed which, you guessed it, leads to different overall ride speeds

Going at the end of June and honestly I'm kinda glad, think they are being super cautious with this ride especially with it being the fastest/highest in the UK. On a separate note I hope they do more over time to improve the theming element as right now it seems so bland in comparison to most of the other major coasters at merlin parks.

Mack hypers are graceful rides that pull little g force and have really slow pacing but they like keeping you hanging off under the lap bar by airtime that isn't necessarily too strong but is quite sustained and long lasting. It flips your sense of gravity without getting you tired or too disoriented that you wanna puke. Also I think it is intentional that it slows down a lot on the tops of inversions but not so much on the first immelmann element that doesn't invert. Sure the outward banked whatever element looks slow but you are staying at a weird angle where you are stuck sideways, track is curving under and slowly roll to getting upside down. If this was taken fast you'd probably get yanked quite a bit that it'd be uncomfortable and would probably hurt your neck and back quite a bit

The Immelmann is a great pace, the outer banked weird turn looks too slow, but then the stall looks amazing. So I think there’s plus points and negatives. That outer bank is my problem, yeah it’s a strange element and doesn’t exist tbh on another coaster but I reckon it would be better to fly through that as well then really drag through the stall

As the height is 72m and from this video it took about 3 seconds to go down the first drop, it was travelling at 24 metres per second 53 mph.

To be fair, it was just the first few tests. I can defo see it being way faster than what it was earlier this week come May 24th

I was at Thorpe park today and it did look slow considering it’s supposed to be the fastest in the uk but me and my friends just considered it was because they were testing

They run at a slow speed when first testing then increase the speed on later tests - the same happened with Nemesis Reborn

i genuinely think that that overbank makes this the first roller coaster that im genuinely scared of...

I think people just need to wait and experience it. It's lap bar restraints with some crazy elements, I think a lot of people don't understand it yet. Icon doesn't do the lap bar sensation justice, and that's where a lot of these comment's are coming from.

People need to remember its only testing. They will test at various speed's and that first test run was on an untested track. Its not going to go round at uts top speed in case there's an issue and it derails. They're experts. They know what they're doing. Just be happy we're a step closer to being able to get on it 🎢

On the outer bank turn you are experiencing negative Gs (forces pushing you up) we are used to earths 1 positive g so we can take more positive Gs than negative (forces pushing in your seat) so yes your meant to go round outer bank slow.

Remember nemesis testing it was slow but now it’s fast as fuck boy

It looked slow in the first test because the operators/maintenance guys were manually operating the lift hill at a very slow speed, they tested it the day after with a full speed lift hill and it flew around the track.

Don't think it'll be slow but definitely too short. Needed more

As the big one has shown, speed and height doesn't always mean great ride. But I wouldn't lose hope yet as it is just a test run, I'm sure the dive stall will be rather slow though as its supposed to hang you upside for a while (thats why it is called a "stall")

It’s not really slow since the lift hill has been running faster since the first few tests. Also it will be guaranteed to speed up as it completes more circuits of the track 👍.

Many said Icon at BPB was slow during the testing. I think it's the smooth, fluid motion of Mack coasters makes them look slow. To me, Hyperia is no way slow.

The big one also has insane whip over the first drop from the back row, but lots of people just call it 'painful'. Then hyperia does a similar thing, and it's 'ah its amazing'
