@SDRacing88
@SDRacing88 5 лет назад
Not quite, but it would be a start. People need to let gm/chevy hear it. With Ram bringing the TRX out, why not have a Supercharged Silverado ZR2 to compete as well??
@karlschauff7989
@karlschauff7989 5 лет назад
@@SDRacing88 If a Silverado got the suspension tech of the ZR2, it could compete pretty well with the Raptor. Spool valve shocks are superior to the shim and disk shocks that the Raptor uses. The torsen front diff in the Raptor would be preferrable to the ZR2's front locker for desert stuff. Other than that, I don't see any area that the Raptor would have a clear advantage in. I know one disadvantage of the Raptor. Those IWE front hubs that Ford uses in their old school vacuum-actuated 4WD are a well-known weakness. Between vacuum leaks and the Torsen's ability to chew the IWE's up with ease, it's a problem that a lot of guys have to fix with mods.
@SDRacing88
@SDRacing88 5 лет назад
@@karlschauff7989 ok let me rephrase, when I said that, I'm referring to specifically high speed desert running...now I do agree the ZR2 CAN be competitive with the spool valve shocks, but it does have limitations......it lacks the suspension travel the raptor has. I could only imagine longer control arms and larger spool valve shocks......
@karlschauff7989
@karlschauff7989 5 лет назад
@@SDRacing88 I would take correctly sized spool valve shocks over a set of Fox Shocks in a heartbeat. There are real benefits to spool valves over shim and disk setups.

RAM TRUCKS I’d say 2019/2020 is junk years for trucks in general. But, with the exception of design of course. For towing heavy loads, I’d go with a Silverado. Towing under 10k, I’d do an f150. Luxury truck, I’d do a ram. The only thing I don’t like about the 1500 Silverado is the laggy 8 and 10 speeds. I don’t even know how it was possible to ruin the shifts in those but for some reason these years they just aren’t tuned properly. That’s like my only issue with any of the trucks for these years.

Great review! I will be checking out more of your videos in the future. I have never driven a 6.2L GM, but I highly endorse the 5.3L engine. I had a 2000 Silverado 5.3 that currently sits at 330k+ miles, my dad has an '06 GMC with the 4.8L (same block, different stroke) that probably will hit 400k miles in the next few weeks. I picked up a '19 Trail Boss Custom in September and was very impressed with the improved performance versus all the old GM stuff I had driven. Again, I haven't driven a 6.2 and I am not familiar with their durability, but, in my opinion, you can't beat the durability of the 5.3 and I have been happy with the performance trailering ~5,000 pounds with my new Silverado.

@@KLX300RMIKE Aww you could be right Mike , but working in the bush and farm fixing back fence lines you never know what is over that hill . I do enough offroading for work really isn't something I consider for fun . Have a good one . Any idea for a good on / off road tire for a Ford ?

Why are they barely talking about lockers? My 2006 Silverado lt back in 07 had the locker and went just as far if not further then dodged and fords 4x4s all I had were bfg all terrains no one ever talked about lockers then years later ford and dodge is like WITH ELECTRONIC LOCKERS and everyone like wow!

My 08 sierra has the locker and I love that about this truck. Along with my old 08 Silverado. Love the automatic locker for off-roading and snow. And I love my 285/70/17 duratracs too. They are good off-road tires for an all terrain tire The road noise I like but nothing much more after that.

Great review. Love this truck, and the cool thing is you can get the base trail boss which will go through pretty much everything this one did for just over $40k U.S.. With rebates probably under $40,000.

Well under...when I got a new truck, I went with an ‘18 Z71 instead of the ‘19 because I like the square body design of the ‘18 models a lot more. MSRP was ~$55,000 and got it for ~$36,000. Heck of a deal on a new truck, and I love it. It’s a lot nicer than the 2018 F-150 FX4 (interior falling apart at 14,000 miles) it replaced and gets way better mileage than the 2016 Tundra Off Road I had before that (truck was totaled in a wreck.)

@@jacobivy2854 you're right, after posting this I saw base Trail Bosses advertised at local dealers for low $30's. One was under $30k.

I have the 5.3 in my GMC and I've never thought it didn't have enough power. I mean over 350 HP. Anyway hold the traction button down for 6 sec to turn stabilitrak off and you'll see it has plenty of power. lol There's a reason they don't want you turning that off often. Definitely break your tires lose fun button.

@@curtisripperger1313 yeah did they have that in 07 when the tundra engine came out? Also I think it requires premium fuel too. Pretty funny toyotas first try at a bigger V8 is actually still competitive today due to the sophistication it has. Might get a few less mpg real world due to it not having silly crap like cyl deactivation and start stop and its gearing doesnt help but it's still insanely reliable and has tons of grunt.

Have a 2021 and it's going through it's first mud season here in the mountains of New England. Truck is an A+ in the mud. Steady chugging through terribly deep sticky mud with ruts over the axles in some cases and never struggled. Don't like the stock Duratrac tires and plan on going with a bit more lift and new TOYO AT III's for tires but the truck is a proven winner in deep muck and is a confident mudder
