Tail boss does not have a “puck lift” it actually has longer coilovers which means longer coil springs and longer front and rear shocks It also has longer front CV axles and 2” lift block in the rear.

I think tommy is forgetting the trailboss isn't trying to be a high end off-roader its selling point is get a factory truck that's leveled without voiding warranties. With a aftermarket leveling kit you void hubs, ball joints, axles and even differentials and since its only a couple grand over the basic z71 it's worth it for the piece of mind.

I'd say 8 out of 10 dream truck. Normally not a fan of such bright colors, but this red with all the black just works very well.

They should of sent the Russian out. I feel like he always does a better job with the test. His non biased attitude is the best he describes the pros And cons and makes the test fun to watch.

I have a 2018 Silverado with the Z71 package. Other than how low it is stock it does great off road. I’m sure it will be better when I lift it. One thing I noticed was how good it was in the snow. One week after I bought it, we took it up to the mountains in Utah for three days. On the last night it snowed a good amount; about 18 inches. We were in a cabin with dirt road access and it did great.

I like that Tommy is more critical and not easily impressed! Giving the video a thumbs just for that.

I have and love my 2014 Silverado! It’s a Z71 which is great but I installed a 2.5” leveling kit plus bigger tires and removed some low hanging B.S. The Trail Boss is nice but GM should get it up if they really want to call it a Trail Boss.

For the rear I prefer the auto-locker for the front manual. And as this is bought to be used for a few years I imagine that they will put a locker in the front.

Ah yes.. good ol' Tommy "I don't like anything that isn't a Wrangler" Mica. I've done trails harder than that one in a stock trail boss. Remember, the G80 is a low speed traction device. If you are at a high rate of speed, you don't need it locking. You also don't need floor it that much for it to lock. Tapping the gas a bit will do it. Once you learn, you can do it on command in situations that need it. I prefer this set up over the selectable ones because I can use it in 2 high or 4 high or auto. I see a few other trucks that have selectable ones won't let you use it unless you are in 4low. Anyway.

I like watching Tommy in these videos, he tries sometimes to be biased, but he's a known Ford fan, you can see in his comments during the test.

I think the trailboss did great job imo, it did flex pretty well, other thing I wanna mention is the fact you two father and son, beside review a truck is the moments us guys expend together for me is really cool seeing that, those are the moment are gonna last. Keep up guys !! Great job.

I wonder if that truck could make it up Kane creeks exit or even down the real exit on hells revenge where that 6 rating actually is. I honestly don't think it has enough ground clearance. I've done them both in a stock Durango with 33s so there's a chance!

I bought this truck last Saturday, except mine was the 6.2.

Good review of the truck, they may not be everyone's favorite truck, but a solid offering from GM. I am partial to their vehicles, but as many have said, the Dodge has a more luxurious looking interior. However, that is not to say that I don't like the interior of the Silverado. There is always GMC or Cadillac if you want a nicer interior. That is if you like the Silverado platform. They are also as you all mentioned, some may not like them initially, but a test drive can and many times does change that opinion. Great trucks from the Big Three now a days. Trail Boss! On another note, because you bought the truck as a long term review, and have installed a lift kit, I noticed the ride was not as good as it could be, that being due to extending the front arms down two inches put the upper control arm very close to the down travel bump stop. To recover ride quality, trim the down travel bump stop if there is enough there to allow trimming. But be careful, as a little goes a long way. Going too far may enable the front CV axles to bind.

Nice video. It was great to see the Trail Boss do well off road. You guys need to determine what you call in a manual locker though. At different times, you refer to both the G80 and a push button e-locker as manual.

The GMC HD struggled so much in the other video because it was way heavier and had a heavy ass diesel. That's why Ram refuses to put a diesel in the Power Wagon. I like the price point of this LT Trail Boss and capabilities.

My new Silverado z71 also has the G80 - but I don't really like the way it operates - IE it takes too long for it to engage. I wish they would put in a selectable rear locker similar to ford or dodge or toyota. It appears the rear tire spun for a number of seconds prior to the engagement which (while better than fully open) kind of sucks offroad when better options exist...

The designer of this truck said that its not a specer light. They said its a coil lift.

Pretty impressive, especially running in wet and muddy conditions. Tommy is right though, the interior is a bummer, needs a modern upgrade. Roman is right about the truck should have a button to lock the rear-diff.

jeez. for 35k+ i wanted to see more. i spent 9k on my 87 cherokee. got a new motor, trans, atlas xfer case, dana 40s front and rear with arb lockers on 36's. i CAN tow 9k but not very far and i get about 15 mpg with the 4.0 (soon to be R2.8) so i feel like if you want an offroad worthy vehicle, dont try and get a road truck and make it off road worthy just start with something meant to go offroad.

As much as I love Ram as a brand, I have to say that they didn't do so well with the 5th Gen exterior design. The 4th Gen design is better. For me, from the current models, the Chevy Silverado is the best looking truck, but the interior not up to the standard of the competitors. The only truck it beats in terms of the interior is the Tundra. For the price I expect better. Its only up to par with my 2014 Ram 1500 SLT and that's saying something. So its not going to make me want to trade in my truck anytime soon. If I would have to trade, I'd still go Ram even though I like the look of the Chevy because I don't drive the vehicle from the exterior. This isn't GTA 5, its real life. At 17:50 Did one of the shocks come off?

Was Tommy acting like a spoiled brat just to offer a different opinion or because he's just a spoiled brat? Those Rancho shocks are better than what you get on the Ram rebel or Nissan and they're good for light offroading. The trail boss is better off road than the Rebel because it has better approach and departure angles, but yeah the interior is disapointing.

I got me a Trail Boss in November. I love it. I mainly tow motorcycles in enclosed trailer.

2 minutes in Roman can't get the lift right. It's not "puck" lift. There is no front spacer! Look it up on the GM website. The front struts are a longer body, they were developed by Rancho for the Trail boss specifically. Infact the AT4 GMC is also specific to it, as the AT4 isn't actually as tall as the Trail Boss. Also the Trail Boss lift has longer CV axles for better angles. The Rear is the only part with a block lift.

When I had my 05 Sierra Z71 I never had a problem with the G80 locker engaging especially with low wheel speed. Back in the day Rancho was a premium off road shock brand. I believe the 9000 series was adjustable.

Love my trailboss. You can beat it up without feeling too bad if it gets cosmetic damage while off roading. Perfect balance on and offroad without any compromise. Can it be better? Yes, but it can also be worse. Best bang for your buck IMO.

Why are some people putting down the interior in this truck.... It's a truck, with comfortable accommodations.

This truck is better than a 6. Especially since it beat the raptor and the rebel in the same off-road test in Moab that you guys did. Surely you aren't saying the raptor is less than a 6

The Trail Boss and AT4 I don't think were ever really meant to be a premium off road truck. I have an AT4 and I love it as a good jack of all trades truck. It has some off road capabilities, it tows well, and it's a nice daily driver.

The good thing about the G80 is that you don’t have to worry about an electrical glitch or brake over heating causing it not to lock. It just works. And Rancho has been around a long long time and has totally proven itself. They were once premium and I feel they are still a great shock.

GM used to use Bilstein shock's, even back in the 80s!! They were the first!! Back in the 80s and 90s the Camaro and Corvette use special Bilstein shock's. My 2001 zr2 had Bilstein shock's on it. They lasted 252,000 miles and I was always off roading!! 252,000 miles on the factory Bilstein shock's!! And remember.. the G80 will lock in two wheel drive, the mechanical will not...

Tommy is young enough to focus on style. Roman has aged enough to focus on comfort. Hence, there is a market for Jeeps and another for Silverados. Great video and great work by the editors!

I bought a 2020. 10K off MSRP. It was an incredible deal. So far been the best overall truck I’ve owned out of several. I have no problem with the interior. Does what it needs to. I don’t need foo foo leather and pretty designs. Thanks Chevy for making a 6/10 Truck to hit the sweet spot! Official truck of the apocalypse.

Back when trucks were built as work vehicles we didn't give a crap about the interior. I still like a basic interior. More bells and whistles means more things that can break.

It's good to see GM finally make a good off road 1/2 ton, I wish Ford would build one between the FX4 and Raptor.

I just got to Moab yesterday with my Jeep Gladiator all the way from Tennessee.

It'd be cool to see Bilstein 5100s equipped on the Trail Boss to go with that middle of the pack theme of the offroad marketed truck segment.

We don’t all want or need a Wrangler. This is more off road capability than I will ever need, it will tow and probably plow well, haul the family, and look good doing it. Thats a thumbs up for me.

I guess I don’t get rock crawling in a truck. Seems boring to go so slow with high chances of banging up your truck.

Great review and the Trail Boss was very impressive and capable on some of the harder obstacles! Air the tires down and try a more difficult trail! I’d give the truck a 7/10 👍🏻

I always go to the cost - paused the vid and priced it out @ lowest sold price (Denver), 72 mnth financing, $3k down - $650/ mnth. I can't imagine paying that every month for 6 years.

It definitely isn’t a raptor but... for the price of the raptor, I can buy a custom trail boss, a mid range side by side and a trailer. Seems like a better deal unless you really need the raptor and 95% of people don’t.

LT + Z71 Package ($1,800 CAD) = locking axle, Rancho shocks, skid plates, etc. LT + Trail Boss ($7,500 CAD) = Z71 Package + Goodyear Tires, 2” lift, etc.

I really like the New trail boss. Good looking truck. Not quite as much power as I am used to, driving an F150, but it is ample. Idk why people say the new GM are trash. I have always had good luck with them. In 2020, it would be a toss up between the Ford/Chevy for myself.

One request is in each video give us the MSRP and what options the truck has. I know you have multiple videos on the truck but would still be a nice quick reminder.

I LOVE MY TRAIL BOSS!! I learned how to drive in a manual pickup, I have only ever owned and driven pickups because of versatility. I have owned ford, Chevy and dodge. Just came from a 2020 f150 xlt 302A fx4 5.0 to a 2022 6.2L trail boss. My trail boss is my favorite truck I have ever owned!!!! It’s only a custom trim level but it’s everything you could want for a Truck, not a luxury grocery getter.

I’ve owned a 03 Z71 a 2014 Z71 crew cab and a 2016 Z71 with the max tow. Now I have a Custom Trail Boss V8, and it is the best truck I’ve ever owned, and also tows better than the max tow I had. Chevrolet did right when the built this truck.

What a Boss of a truck the best of all worlds. Great V8 good off road good towing good for the family while not getting beat up. B.A.B Bad ass boss

We have mechanical lockers like the G80, electric lockers that are optional on many trucks, and hard core air lockers. When used correctly, any locker is better than an open diff. To drive this point home, when you do these reviews, bring along a truck with open diffs. Doing this will serve two functions. First, the viewer will see just what to expect from a 4wd truck with stock open diffs. Second, the viewer will actually see what difference a locking axle will make.

People (Tommy) get so down on the interior. It's not excellent, and it isn't a Ram for sure. I have a 2019 RST and it really isn't bad. I do look forward to the updated interiors when they come out, but I am enjoying the truck so much I have no plans to upgrade. If that's the worst Tommy can say about it, that's cool. Personal preference...

Like u said, it’s not the best off-road, it’s a 6/10 but if Chevy or ford or anyone went any farther with it, you would then be sacrificing your daily driving purposes, like comfort and possible reliability of certain parts. It’ll suffice the weekend warriors who wants a bit of fun on a local trail, and it’ll also take you across the country if it needs too. It’s a great concept that these manufacturers are offering nowadays.

Maybe it's just because it is a video, but that didn't look like that difficult of a trail. Yes, there were some challenging Rocky bits, but not a 6/10 worthy. More like a 3 or 4. Most of the time they were crawling around on flat dirt.
