Whenever I am in the rain, and I open the door it is typical for the rain to come in.

But it wasn't "raining" when he opened the door, that was his point. The gutter system doesn't protrude far enough forward because they redesigned the windshield so you could flop it on the hood in 5min.
@vheypreexa
@vheypreexa 6 лет назад
The soft top on my JK works this same way too. Any water trapped in the gutter runs in when I open the door. But it's a jeep and I don't cry about water getting on the floor.

Vhey, even the hard-top on my JK leaks a bit of water into the cabin when you open the doors, so I guess it's a Jeep thing and most of us put-up with a bit of rough around the edges.

I have a 2008 Liberty with the sky slider roof. The roof still works and I open it every chance I get. The only leaking is at the automatic car wash and the dryer sucks the top up a little and lets water in. Otherwise, dry as a bone, snow and rain. I haven't traded it in because of the top.
@Nick-gi6ym

This will be a huge issue if your in a cold weather climate like me. Water coming in that amount if you have carpet now your going to have mold issues. In warm weather you can remove the carpet & remove the drain holes in the floor. If someone on the passenger side your now going to have issues. I would give this a failure in cold weather areas.

This sliding top design is very similar to the sliding top that was offered on the Jeep Liberty for several years. We bought a Liberty for our son and found mixed reviews on the top. The problems seem to occur with age and ranged from leaks to alignment issues. Needless to say we stayed away from that top and got a hardtop. Hopefully Jeep has corrected those problems

The water dripping in after opening the door is of course something my 2016 does. The design of the current 3 piece freedom top tends to hold the standing water or direct it towards the B pillar instead of pouring in onto the dash. This may be a downfall of the retractable top only version.

cars used to have a drip edge over the door but, maybe to save cost or aerodynamics in the wind tunnel for mpg, it's pretty common for rain to run down into the vehicle. when i first bought my taco and had to open my window during the rain, it wasn't the rain coming in the window that was the issue. it was the waterfall off the roof pouring in that surprised me. vent visors can help with at least the first few inches of open window. no vehicle avoids water coming in entirely if you open the door outside during the rain.

I know this is a 2 year old comment but those people who don't live here don't get it. It rains in the winter. So when the water gets in, the windshield gets fogged up. When you go to start up the car in the morning. It can take FOREVER to see. You need a towel! Or worse is if it freezes- you end up having to scrape the INSIDE of your windshield too. Sure you have a defroster but that can take forever. You want to laugh? Move to the WetCoast, drive a Jeep in the winter, then we'll see who laughs.
@coejbee
@coejbee 6 лет назад
Hard top JKs also have water pour in from the gutters when opening the doors in the rain, its no big deal. I'm sure Jeep made those new controls on the dash waterproof. Sometimes I'll just wipe my hand across the area and rid excess water before opening the door, but I mean your buying a Wrangler, its top or doors will eventually leak anyway. If you don't like it, Jeep offers plenty of other models that won't leak lol.

Ok, I think I'm just going to hang on to my good old JKU. While the side panels and power roof are a technological improvement over the old hard and soft top, I have to say: it's a Jeep Wrangler. If I want something with a fancy power roof I buy a BMW. I bought my JKU used (1 year old, 10k miles) and the hard top only came off once - and is still hanging in my garage. I use a soft top all year round because in California that's much easier and there's no severe freezing weather to think of. Yes, all Jeeps leak. That's what the plugs in the bottom are for. If I want a boring car that doesn't leak - again, I buy a BMW. I got into my Jeep with 3 inches of water in the foot-well. Pull the plug - all good. Jeep Wrangler's are a lifestyle, not a statement. No matter how much the Jeep Company wants to turn a JKU into a Land Rover - it's not a Land Rover. They should just embrace what makes a Jeep a Jeep - it's a bit like that venison roast over an open camp fire - no amount of microwave will ever bring back that flavor. Just stick to it for crying out loud.
@OSTKCabal
@OSTKCabal 6 лет назад
"A boring car that doesn't leak" "BMW"... I feel like there are plenty of other significantly more boring and affordable brands to make your point here, like Toyota or Nissan. Nonetheless, Jeep has made a livable vehicle with modern technology that both retains on existing off-road prowess AND improves on it, while also making it a much more bearable daily driver. Let people complain, these things will still fly out of dealerships at stupid rates.

Uwe Schroeder you have never driven an m3 have you?
@uweschroeder
@uweschroeder 6 лет назад
I have, although I liked the 420d better (mostly because it's convertible and they did an excellent job on the diesel engine), together with a collection of other fast cars - simply because my uncle was a ralley mechanic and we took the cars on the track for "test drives" :-) Still, the Wrangler is the most fun to drive. Yes, a M3 is much better when it comes to pretty much everything, but it can't go off-road and where I live now the roads are so miserable that I wonder how people can enjoy driving the speed limit in a Porsche or any other sports car (the speed limit here being 65mph - around 100km/h which defies the purpose of having a sports car unless you need it as male enhancement). Plus I rarely have a top on my jeep - which is already at least 1/3 of the fun.
@uweschroeder
@uweschroeder 6 лет назад
I took a BMW because it's the only convertible I ever had and it had power roof and didn't leak. Yes, I agree, there's a lot of other vehicles that are a lot more boring.

@TeXasDadBod

I would imagine a lot of dust and fine gritty sand getting stuck in the tracks over time. Then it wouldn’t slide as smoothly. I almost want to make a bet that it will happen and be the most common problem other than the leaking an occasional track jumping off a track and some minor sun fade. They sell window holders from jeep to store those in the rear so the glass is safe I do believe.
@TheKagedd
@TheKagedd 5 лет назад
The Liberty KK has the sky slider top option that was basically identical to this one. That top option on the Liberty didn’t do well in the hands of time. I’m curious to see how Jeep has improved on this design. It seems that everyone has magically forgotten about this.

It really just needs the water routed elsewhere...like down the outside of the door (towards the engine) or around to the windshield. Seems like an easy fix.

Well, getting a Wrangler is all about being one with the elements. They are designed to get wet inside and out. I can see how the dripping will cause a little frustration for the uninitiated but a diehard Wrangler fan will just shrug and wipe it off. Good video though.

How noisey is the rag top at 75 mph on the highway... I changed to a hard top because of the noise but I do like the idea of the slider top...

I was playing on the Jeep JL configurator today... those ugly wheels are a $895 option! AND, if you add in the Limited Slip rear diff, Jeep forces you to buy them!

K J Like the JK, There are two different 18" designs for the Sahara, the standard ones, and the optional, upgraded ones that are on this one. Check out the Jeep site.

K J gotcha. Yeah, the Rubi wheels are ok, the Sport wheels are meh, and both Sahara wheels are ugly. JK Sahara wheels are ugly too, it's too bad Jeep has such a hard time designing a good looking wheel for anything other than a Rubi.

Since the interior is supposedly waterproof, are there any drain plugs in the floor? I'm sure you won't hose down the interior in your press car.

My question is how water resistant is the instrument cluster and the Nav screen? Where I live it rains at random times and if the top is left down am I going to walk out and have a brick for a Jeep due to water shorting it out?

can probably extend the gutters to the bottom of the door yourself if it becomes excessive

That’s typical for the Jeep’s soft tops to leak. I had a soft top Jeep and it leaked and it only got worse as time went on. I think the sliding soft top will Leak after some time. Also the leaking when you open up the door , my Jeep did that too and it was a big pain in the butt. I don’t like the soft tops.

Granted this wont help on a day to day basis, but I wonder if you drove up on a 2x4 before doing this if the water would have ran to the back. It's too bad this happens. That is a problem probably because of that kind of top. Does your personal Jeep JK suffer the same problem?

I am considering in buying a Sahara with the One touch power top, however now I am concerned, since I don’t have a garage, I just park in my driveway, also I am in Canada in a province where the snow and raining seasons are much longer that the dry Season, I am wondering where I can see the most updated review about Onetouch power top, any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Jeep should hav placed rain-gutters up around all doors, who wants a wet floor inside. Also that corner floor pan will be full of rust in no time.

When driving a manual 6 speed transmission, does it feel like a truck or does it feel like a car when shifting gears ?
