Does it STILL make sense to buy a Dyna? 

I don't mean to start an East coast /West coast thing again but the Dyna is the last real Big Twin Harley, and while I can appreciate the M8 for the sake of keeping the Corporation moving forward and upward, it feels like everything that gave their motorcycle character is what they engineered out of it... Or maybe I'm Boomer posting again.

I do like my wife's stnd and my m8 fatboy is brilliant for touring. But I really do prefer my t sport for the sound and shake at idle etc Funnily enough I still miss riding my old shovelhead even just the process of kicking it over was cool

I got a 2022 low rider s a little under 2 months ago now, been absolutely loving it, it’s my first harley ever and I have no complaints, even coming off of a Kawasaki z400 and upgrading to the Harley I’m surprised at how good it handles and how easily I can still maneuver it, I can come to stops without putting my feet down and keep the bike up at extremely low speeds, the chassis is amazing, I was worried about the weight since I started on a 380lb bike but the weight is very manageable doesn’t ever feel like too much and I’m just a normal guy not super strong or anything either

I think you nailed it with the M8 Twin cam comparison I've never ridden an M8 but to me it seems like a sanitized version of a Harley. Your right about the visceral feeling of rolling back the throttle on a Twin cam but the reliability of it is questionable after 70K miles it turns in to a labor of love or hate depending on the issues.

Spot on. One thing that I didn’t want to deal with anymore was the wobble. You could def figure it out and fix it but the trouble you go through is ridiculous sometimes.

You hit it spot on, I’ve ridden the new m8s and they definitely do not have the character my twin cam does. With that said I still want to throw a new road glide next to my dyna. But would definitely have both bikes.

Great advice…totally concur. Personally, I’m on the fence of stage 4 of the Dyna bro chart….continue to mod my Dyna with performance mods or do a bagger…test road a RG ST and that motor is awesome

Great video with very solid points. Dyna's are still awesome bikes and that twin cam is definitely something special, but I can also see why most people are choosing softails for their first bikes. Even the 107 M8 is still plenty powerful for most people and the 2019+ M8's are much better. I started with sport bikes and cafe racers and had ridden those for 3 years before deciding to buy my first Harley in late Fall 2019. Harley got my attention with the reveal of the 2020 FXLRS, but I couldn't reasonably afford it at the time, so I bought a 2018 Iron 1200. Since Fall 2019, I have owned 5 different Harley's (including a 2014 FXDL, 2020 FXLRS, and 2021 FLHX) and wish I'd have just bought that 2020 FXLRS off the jump. Would have saved me a lot of financial grief and headache.

Great topic man. Everything is in flux. There are people who think twin cams are not real Harleys. Soon enough every Harley will be liquid cooled and people will be bitching about Rev Max being too modern and packed with electronics and that M8 is the way to go. Personally, I think the era of air cooled engines is close to ending. I'd buy the latest and greatest version of that and hang on to it. M8s can make excellent power with a few mods. Dynas are cool, but look at shovels and knuckles. Parts are getting sparse and they are really expensive to maintain. The more you have to baby a bike, the less you are going to ride it.

Your channel convinced me to step up to a built out 113 FXDXT. Sometimes I feel like I got in over my head. There is such a thing as too much.. Motorcycles are rider limited.

The 103 twin cam on my Road King feels like a Harley...also, sold my liquid cooled Triumph for an air cooled one. Radiators don't belong on motorcycles!

I love my dyna, but after riding the new softtail I’m personally making the switch next riding season.

My dyna is my main bike, but if my garage was bigger, I’d get another softail LRS. Had one before and performance-wise, it couldn’t really be beat.

My 03 fxd will forever stay with me also have a 21 fxlrs. Sorta like having an old carb muscle car to a 2022 Muscle car. Theres always something better yes my 21 will be more reliable but can’t beat the sound the feel of my 03. Either way I’m sure you’ll enjoy a dyna or newer bike.

Nope, 02 fxd, also had a 82 fxr which I never should have sold! An still have a 73 xlch! New Harleys don't do anything for me,

I owned a 2019 FXBB then bought a 2020 FXLRS then a 2021 FLTRXSE before I went back to a 2003 FXDL and I now got an FXR and a FXDX. The new bikes are better and so is most of the Hondas but I ain't ridin' no Honda. The Dyna is ruffer and just more fun. It's like comparing the 90's with today. Back then you did cocain on a strippers ass and now you get triggered if someone assume the stripper identify as a female.
