You are right a picture dont show the movments .i sent tommy your post from yesterday about what the other guy said to me tommy sent me a mgs this morning bollox boxers dont use trapping there its a fact .its just a way of keeping students interested and coming back to class .keep up the great work i am so happy i found tommy and then your self as what both of yee are teaching in jkd simple and direct simplicity is key in jkd .from what i got from going over Bruce's books is simplicity is key and most so called jkd men make it more difficult. Jesse glovers non classical gung fu is more direct then most of the jkd you see around the world facts rip Jesse

Good explanation and all in good context. Preferably , you NEVER want to be THAT unaware of your surroundings to be put in that position in the first place. Yeah...,like a hit, a VERY savage hit, with all the unmerciful torque of a ferocious hook punch. You want that arm broken in half or broken off.

My concern is that during sudden highly stressed situations all the fine motor skills are already gone before you know it i.e. you can't dance with your attacker. And what if there is suddenly another attacker with a hidden weapon... However the explanation is good and surely explains why when I used to read those martial arts books as a kid nothing would make much sense. All the best!
@SuperMaryu767
@SuperMaryu767 Год назад
@voiceguy554 That’s why in jkd is all about ending the fight as simple and fast as possible while avoiding techniques and ideas that are complex, multilayered and focusing on one opponent/static techniques. Bruce talked about training realistically for the street that way one is more prepared for it. Bruce even described his fighting approach as "Efficient street fighting with everything goes."
@ov1994
@ov1994 Год назад
@@SuperMaryu767 As Bruce Lee said in his LongStreet series, "If you try to remember you will lose". Some people don't understand that in a real fight it is not about trying to remember moves or techniques.
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO Год назад
That's people who never trained enough. You dont try to remember to steer your car and break if something happens. You've done enough hours to do it without thinking. Same is fighting.

Dude, this is awesome. I never thought I'd see you demonstrating the use of standing arm breaks, but I have found a lot of value in this technique. Good work. I also agree with your assessment that parrying is a better way to go than trying to grapple the arm. You can't really try to fish for the grab and parrying will be a better, non-committed defense while at a distance. I still think wrestling is very valuable for knife defense, for when the attacker is pressuring into you, but for more "fencing" style knife stabs, parrying is superior. As always, I enjoy your exploration of the eye jab and showing different angles and possibilities with it. Great explanation, thank you.
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO Год назад
Its a massive difference between you hitting an arm to break it, that is already holding you and trieing to grab a knife wielding one. Just to be clear, parrying and hitting combined with footwork is safer. You just need countless reps. If you didn't do at least hundreds of thousands, forget about it. Self defence ain't looking at it and repeating. Most will never be able to pull it of, knife or no knife.
@Shacksies
@Shacksies Год назад
@@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO Agreed fully. I train daily and do classes 5 days a week, but I will admit that the advanced parrying and eye jabs you do are not a big enough focus at either of my schools. I implement a lot of these types of parry-riposte attacks in my sparring, but I need to do it even more, and actually put on safety goggles to train the eye jabs properly.

There's a video on RU-vid:6 Signs They'll Be Easy To Throw/Sweep by Gabriel Varga. I thought,it could be interesting for you because one stance is almost similar to JKD-stance.
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO
@ThomasMarxJeetKuneDoIFO Год назад
Yeah, if you stand static, anyone can be sweeped, if you understand the physics. There is no stance, there is structure through movement.
