Honestly Giannis had 1 run prior and he choked a 2-0 lead. He wasn't good in the bubble and he's been an early exit otherwise. Jokic is the same mostly, him and Murray lit up the bubble and otherwise he's out in the first or second round. Durant is the same outside of the Warriors. The conversation isn’t the same because both Giannis and Jokic had made it past the second round and even when they didn’t, their stats were still otherworldly. Embiids production literally falls off a cliff in the play offs. Conversations about Embiid, great as he is, really are proof that certain great players’ peaks really do get lost in the shuffle. Hakeem was the definition of touch and power and defensive greatness. So was Tim Duncan. So was Garnett albeit in a different frame. Embiid will likely play a lot more like Duncan as he ages, really working and facing up from set spots on the floor as opposed to dropstepping into fouls. 1:18 I think that Tim Legler could have expanded on this. It is not just that we are "numb" to what Joel Embiid has been doing this season - it is that the national audience has started to ignore big men being... exceptional unless there is a massive amount of "hype" from NBA media and press. It seems we are already taking Jokic for granted, and he just won his first Championship last season... The league used to literally revolve around centers and big men being primary scoring options. Now we have moved to skilled guards and forwards being the primary scorers on a regular basis and seems that similarly skilled big men like Jokic and Embiid are being overlooked.

It’s not about him demanding the ball. It’s him losing all of his efficiency because his foul baiting and flopping doesn’t work nearly as effectively in the playoffs. Even if he demanded the ball more he would still be super inefficient compared to his regular season stats. That’s the issue. Not how many shots he takes. That raptors series is the perfect example because even if kawhi missed that shot and the sixers won the game, embiid still played TERRIBLE that series. Maxey being an all star just means that Embiid has at least a top 30 (maybe top 20) player as a lieutenant. Only Harden superfans will trade Murray for him (mostly because of behaviour issues) but if you asked 8 months ago to nba fans which teammates they want as lieutenant between Harden or Murray, Murray will not be picked by many. If we talk about the supportive cast in general, the 76ers have a decent record without Embiid while the nuggets are not even a play in team. What separate Embiid and Jokic is that the latter could bring a better chemistry whoever the teammates will be and improve the team level. ( 9:25 ) to give Tim Legler his due - he did this (almost) twice. In the 1994 - 95 season Tim shot .522 percent overall, .520 from three, .882 on free throws, but only played 24 games for the Warriors (so it was not a "record"). The next season 1995 - 96 Legler played in Washington and shot .507 overall .522 * three pointers .863 free throws, on 9.2 points per game in 77 games for the Bullets (* second all time best 3 point percentage in a single season at the time 0.5224 to Steve Kerr 0.5235 for the Bulls in 1994 - 95 [Steve is also all time career 3 point percentage leader at 0.454, Tim is now 8th at 0.431] ). honorable mention : J J Redick led the league in 3 point percentage, 2015 - 16 season at 0.4751 [18th best career at 0.415].

Another difference between Embiid and Shaq...Embiid doesn't always finish strong because he can finish at the FT line, Shaq didn't have that in his game, which probably (I said probably) influenced his dominance around the rim. Shaq was stronger, Embiid makes up for that strength with his touch.

It's not about winning the Championship. We criticize him cause he's a 30+ ppg on the reg. Szn and when April comes his production drops drastically. He's an historically bad playoffs performer, and until he proves us wrong people will not put him up there with others great

Not necessarily to validate his talent but this is a game that is painted by post season achievements. Robert Horry has more rings than Allen Iverson. AI is still respected. But a ring or two will certainly make it a strong case as one of the best to ever play. It’s a happy medium between regular season consistency and playoff consistency and results.

We all need to see it in the playoffs. Even Philadelphia fans see how disappointing he’s been in the playoffs. Let’s not scapegoat Joel just because he’s having a fantastic season, but then doesn’t show up in the playoffs. Or let’s not hold other players to some standard, where they’re judged differently. Joker should’ve won the MVP last year, but the media insisted that he didn’t deserve his third until he won something in the championship, which he did.

Joel is like the Patrick Ewing of this era. Giannis is like the Magic of this era and Jokic the Bird of this era. This isn't a comparison based on playstyle but based on standing in the league. Joel Embiid is like the 7th best player in the league (you could argue in the regular season he is top 2) but in the playoffs he is not top 10 right now). Jokic and Giannis are like Bird and Magic were in the 80s, constantly battling for being the best player in the league. Joel is not in their class even if he performs better in the regular season and has the backing of the refs and the media.

Legitimately one of the most talented players I’ve seen live. Dude is a monster and for all his foul merchant critiques (which are fair), he’s an incredibly intelligent offensive player. I think he gets another MVP but he just does not win a championship as the best player on a team, sorry. He slows the game down and doesn’t elevate his teammates on the floor. It’s what keeps him out of the jokic and Giannis class. You can’t isolate those guys because they can utilize their teammates, Embiid can’t. They had a window with Jimmy and they won’t have one again.

while I agree with many on here, we need to see him do it for an entire playoffs but at the same time ring culture has gotten annoying. I grew up watching Dominique, Barkley, and Shawn Kemp, none of whom ever won rings and didn't care. I appreciated those players, yes not winning a ring did hurt their legacy some but we could still enjoy watching great players be great. Now, there's a segment of fans who just dismiss current greatness because they haven't won a ring. Sometimes, just let it go and enjoy it. Playoffs will come and he'll have another chance to prove himself but in the meantime, enjoy greatness.

@@matthewbecker964 I don't have a problem with anyone criticizing him for that but to me it's just dumb to keep belaboring it and bringing it up over and over, and to just act as though that's all there is to players. Again, it's not the criticism I think is dumb, it's the constant dismissing of everything and never stopping to enjoy or appreciate anything of players. I hated Kobe as a player, as a Sun fan it was my duty to hate Kobe, and I have criticisms of Kobe's game and leadership at times, but that also didn't stop me from appreciating his game and marveling at some of his performances. You can be both critical or players and celebrate them as well. It doesn't need to be either/or.

Doing historical stuff in the regular season is amazing. It’s just that great players we talk about today, had to be great during the playoffs and that’s what separates great players from all time great players.

I wonder how Redick will respond to this…. Players always hold themselves accountable and won’t ever throw any coaches under the bus, but when I picture the playoffs and Embiid the past several years, I don’t see the right pieces around him, the players being in the right spots around him and the ability to adjust by the coaching staff don’t seem to be right often as well. For example, I would scream at the TV when Harris was the corner shooter on the second or third ball rotation. That’s EXACTLY what the defense would want. I feel like the bench is legit this year too. I don’t think Brown adjusted right when he had JJ, Butler Embiid etc, and I don’t think Doc did either but I also think the roster the past two seasons was right for Embiid. Nurse seems to really have a better handle on things. Just my opinion. I’d love to see Nurse with the Butler/Embiid/Reddick squad too.

@@gbmbg114 It is simple. One plays better in playoffs than in regular season. He did what has never been done before. He won a chip and a finals MVP.
