im old school , im in my mid 50's...as a Leaf fan since 1979, all i want to see from Leaf players is effort, compete, sacrifice...not always points.. you can contribute to a playoff win without scoring, what you cant do is what Marner did in Gm2, and bail in the corner, you think Pat Burns would have let that slide? Cmon. i know times are different, I'm not naive to not see that, but fundamentals of any sport success has never changed. you work hard every play, one of my favorite all time quotes..."Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard" its that simple.
Mitchy is a highly skilled player with great play making abilities! Unfortunately, when the games get rough, Mitchy becomes non effective and afraid of going into the corners to get the puck. In the playoffs you need to get out of your comfort zone and do what it takes to WIN.I would trade Mitchy in the off season for 2 big, heavy, tough d-man or 1 top 9 power forward and 1 d-man?
It's been the same thing for Marner since the beginning. He lacks the intestinal fortitude to perform in the playoffs. Let's every criticism destroy his world. Needs to build some mental toughness if he ever wants to take the next step.
@@shanebrohm7786 it's not just about putting up points. His meekness during plays causes turnovers and panicked plays. He's gotta get some bravery going lol
@@shanebrohm7786 nope actually. Matthews is who I'm a fan of. Personally I'd rather 3 x $7 million players or 4 x 5mil players. Instead of Marner and Nylander. Get at least one mid power forward and the best defenseman or defensive prospect possible somewhere somehow lol
If you make over 10 million you need to be over a ppg in the playoffs or your team won't be going far. He's still good, the problem is other teams have players who are better who cost less
So you think either McKinnon or McDavid are over a ppg in the playoffs you're crazy look I do agree he is soft but he don't get paid to go out and be something he is not he gets paid because he gets points over the last 5 years 7 players have more points than Mitch all making close to or above what he makes you all make it sound like he needs to go our there and smash his way through everything like his 180 lbs are gonna do shit against 200 or 220 lbs men be real calm your tits folks as for trading him why so we can watch the second most talented player we have had in decades win a cup with someone else wtf is wrong with all you arm chair gms wow
Watch the sequence for Marner at 1:50 in this video. He has a CLEAR line to the puck, to get there first, but decides to turn up ice to avoid a hit. He ends up losing the battle for the puck in the offensive zone and the B's break out cleanly. HE'S AFRAID.
He simply could’ve pinched the puck to the boards with his skates after avoiding that contact and going around. He just truly didn’t want it more.. why i don’t want the hawks to sign him
Being surprised that Marner isn't performing in the playoffs is like when the cartoon villian is always surprised when the hero of the cartoon shows up to stop him. Or being surprised that sun rises every morning.
@@erniejohnson677 umm what? is that a threat? Because that makes no sense whatsoever in response to what I said other than it being a threat. Anyway I'm reporting it as a threat.
@@erniejohnson677 So let me get this straight. You are so fragile that you can't handle reading a comment on the internet about a player that plays for a bad team that is completely true and she's the one that sports isn't for??? Really??? Are you sure the internet is for you? I'm just saying, if you can't handle THAT comment, it's going to be rough for you.
Relax, it’s 3 games and he has a point. Almost have a goal first game if he didn’t get crosss checked in the back and had an assist on Berts goal in game 2 that got called back
YES!!! He definitely deserves everything that he gets! People need to watch closer! Marner has been the worst of the big 4 players for about 3 years now!!!! Willy keeps growing and developing his game, but I can’t say the same for Mitch
@@cbenjamin9220Marner is the 13th highest point scorer in the close to 100 year history of the Leafs. Criticism for not getting points in 2 games is stupid.
I don't really care who scores the goals so long as they win! Worry about who stays and who goes in the offseason, for now it's all about 1 game, 1 win at a time.
Lmfao kids complain other fans are too optimistic and too negative at the same time, can't be both. Either they're toxic or they plan the parade early every year. Can't be both 😂😂
A leopard can’t change its spots. MLSE DESERVES all the criticism for this player’s attitude and his lack of effectiveness in the playoffs. He was offered the moon and turned it down for just a little bit more. NOT A PLAYOFF TEAM GUY. Should play further down in the lineup with pay to match. WTF’s up with Nylander ? If anyone’s watching some of the other series, it seems unlikely that the Leafs can compete with the likes of THAT. Matthews can’t do it all but himself, but credit to the hard nosed players the Leafs do have, giving EVERYTHING EVERY SHIFT. MLSE (SHANAHAN) don’t have the solution… Believe me, Leaf’s fans are not in it for the regular season, SHAKEUP !
Mitch is soft on the puck and should not be paid more than $8.5 Million. I just hope he learns how to thrive with playoff officiating. He did make a great assist last night and spoke with a better attitude before the game. At $11 Million - I am just surprised the Leaf Fans are not booing Marner in these games. 😀
That play chasing the puck into the corner was almost as bad as Nylander when he doesn't even bother to try to get there. I thought Mitch wore 93 in junior as an homage to Dougie Gilmour, but Killer would have made the sacrifice to get to the puck. I really hope Mitch gets it together and starts playing playoff hockey.
Apart from last year at times, this is typical marner, the guy can't carry a line, can only be impactful if he's being carried by matthews and he always disappears against heavy physical teams.....are you worth 11m if you can only perform with matthews? No
Why keep Marner as an overpaid Leaf? Matthews in game 2 - played like as super star in a playoff game for the first time in his career. Super stars win playoff runs - Matthews has zero. It is a joke to think Marner is a top winger in the NHL - and in the playoffs he has been just a liability. 😀
His a 10+ million dollar player to get you into the playoffs for sure if your a struggling fringe team. But if your team can get in with or without him, then that 10m+ is baggage. I saw him 2-3 times in the game where he would give up possession instead of fighting for it on the boards. At least with Nylander we get the EURO hockey/ Playoff Hockey Nylander every year that we pray Matthews to be. He goes for the checks, board battles, and skates like someone lit a firecracker near his ass. Marner skates away from a teammate getting jumped, afraid of the boards, can't do his passes because the game has become tighter. So what use is a passer that can't pass?
Absolutely! dude got payed so that opens him up to extreme criticism when he doesn't perform. Turns into a ghost every year in the playoffs, he needs to find another gear and quick.
We don’t know what Mitch is going through, he was off for a long time with injury not that long ago. Give the guy a break, he is a superstar and he will show up.
Toronto media is hilarious. It's only been two games. If he was in a 2 game slump in the regular season it wouldn't even be mentioned. Toronto media needs to focus on the bad penalties that the team has taken so far.
Marner is doing a lot of the little things to help his team. Most fans don't see that stuff. It's not all about points. The series is young. Marner is so slippery that he will prevail !
You just don't have room for scared hockey players in the playoffs....I don't even care if he get points or not......Marner is a coward in the playoffs and he'll never be first to the puck or battle along the boards ever......it's been the same every year....I'm happy Mathews line has moved on without him. Already showing good results
Mich Marner is your prototype regular season player. When playoffs arrive and you’re facing real competition, gritty, in-your-face hockey, Marner is simply NOT built for this time of year! He hasn’t proven anything in the playoffs since he’s been a Leaf! I’d not offer Marner a new contract and move him for an elite D‼️🥅🏒
last year gretzky said matthews' picture should have been put on milk cartons as a missing person. this year, matthews is (thus far) earning his keep. however it should be marner's turn to have his picture on the milk cartons lol. 🤷🏼♂
@BigH0mie89 you're right about wayne 's wording of his comment. collectively, the core-fore have won 1 p-off round in 8 years lol. no guarantee that TOR gets by BOS this year in the p-off's either.
I just noticed the other day that while Marner is older than Suzuki, has way more playoff participations than Suzuki, Suzuki has more playoff goals than Marner.
Lol shit like this even when they win are why these star players always want to leave and play in non-canadian markets. 😂 these players do need thicker skins at the same time but Canadian fans really cannot enjoy a win especially Toronto fans.
@@SidiousPalpit’s not mutually exclusive it’s a big fan base. We range from delusional aspiration to excessive hate. Media coverage of this team is near 24:7 and they move from justified criticisms to hot takes. The issue is the amount of coverage really it’s why it can be so toxic, and the fans have their own echo chambers amplified by the media. But man if they win … they’ll be legends.
Dude, Marner doesn't care. He doesn't love the game other players literally said he's out there talking about his dog and summer home. The boys don't care to win
small intangibles don't deserve 11 million...he needs to stand out on the ice not blend in or we can replace him with a 3 million dollar player if he plays no better than a 3rd liner in the playoffs
He's making 10.9 million dollars. He has to produce. Double shift Matthews with Marner with the last change. Keefe has to use the last change to his advantage.
How many posters ever had a high ankle sprain, and realize it takes at least 6-8 weeks to get over it? Big mistake for the Leafs to trade Marner but it might be better for him if he wants to win a Cup cause it ain’t happening in Moronto.
I dont know why people are so surprised hes been doing this type of shit his whole career. Hes a points guy regular season guy ....I have so many examples but what's the point
Marner is ineffective, unless someone can fetch the puck for him, he does not drive his line, whereas Nylander does. However, when he does have the puck, he can be great. In the end he needs to step up and drive his line to earn that pay.
Yes. Marner stinks. Soft as ice cream. In a huge Leafs fan. I hate watching him play. Even when he dazzles a nice set up or goal, it doesn't do a thing for 90 percent of us Leafs fans.
Mitch Marner plays a fearless type of game....hahaha, wow is this the epitome of bad reporting. Frankie Corrado either does not watch the games, understand what he's watching or just simply picking random stuff to discuss. Mitch Marner does not play a fearless type of type of game
@@erniejohnson677 you don't get it. If you spend 10 percent of your allotted budget on 1 player he needs to perform. Otherwise you aren't worth it. We could have 2 really solid defenseman for that price. So he needs to contribute. He's been a zero in playoffs since he entered the league.
@@lanebonnar9101 yeah how did that work for you. Isn’t that what you were doing before you paid 4 guys all that money? According to your dummy philosophy why were you guys dogshit before they got on the team but now that your paying superstars your the favourite to win almost every game and you have the best chance you’ve ever had. He’s been getting paid in the playoffs, you’ve been a zero in the playoffs from the day you were born. Reconsider who your criticizing boy
Willie's not even playing yet. Mitch led the leafs in points last playoffs regardless.. these guys were kids who got lucky to make the playoffs in they're first year. The MLSE got greedy and impatient and didn't build the team or develope them properly. I watched kids who shouldn't be expected to win yet expected to win every year before any of them hit they're prime yet. They are all hitting they're prime now. The next 3 years in leaf land should be better..
Why... Dah.... Marner is not capable to elevate his performance when it matters most... Playoffs are only for individual who are WILLING to pay the price too WIN...
MM will leave Toronto when his contract is up. I don't blame him. He didn't ask to be put with interior players. Frank might be the worst anal-lyst on TSN. I am amazed MM is singled out. I'm sure Montreal would love him. As would Boston, NYI, Chicago (with Bedard look out), Detroit, Buffalo and others. Too many Leaf fans don't know wth they're talking about. Go MM. Go Leafs..
Mitch Marner is probably the worst contract in the NHL. he should be making 5-7 million, as opposed to the 11 million he makes and everyone knows it, so it's impossible to trade him. No team wants him at 11 Million.
No, he does not. He likes to fart in the corner to get in the defenders nose and throw them off their game. That night, he didn't eat enough broccoli to get his fart game on point. Hopefully, he can rip some sick farts in game 3. Look out!!!!
Re-sign Domi, Sign Bertuzzi sign a number ond defenseman with the money you were gonna use on Marner, try trading him. I know he has a no-moved clause in his contract, if he doesn't agree to do that, then let him walk. He can't play playoffs hockey and he's gonna be asking for 12.5 million and he's not worth anywhere close to that amount.
Lol. Only a loser is gonna defend an 11 million dollar player whos useless in the. Playoffs.....separating the two has only proved one thing, Marner rides on Mathews back to make his 11 million.
@@cbenjamin9220 it's just two games against one of the toughest teams in the NHL. I'm not really defending him, just blasting quick trigger fans. We have 2 players who need the most attention and need to be shut down. He's one..and on likely a pretty sore leg. If 24 other guys can't pick up the slack, it's not just Marner's fault... especially when Marner's not playing with the guy who sets the expectations.. Forget the money, it has nothing to do with hockey. Every team would take him at that salary.
@@eshep71 2 games? It's been this way in every playoff series since he's been on the Leafs. He's a coward everytime. Remember the playoff game where Toronto was up by one goal and he shot the puck over the glass to avoid getting hit and took a penalty which resulted in the other team tying and then winning the game a short time later. Or how about last year in the playoffs when he panicked and did a drop pass to Mathews in our own end which also led to a goal. Don't get me wrong, in the regular season, Marner is a great setup man that sees the ice well and can even score some goals....but come playoff time, different story.... And, yeah, any team that wants Marner for 11 million or whatever raise he's going to ask for can have him just as long as it's not another Canadian team.
So far Mitch marner is this generation Joe Thornton both of them put up a point per game or more during the regular season come playoff time both of them turn into ghosts
Marner is the 13th highest playoff point scorer in rhe close to 100 years of Leaf history. He has been rhe most important player on the team for the last 6 or 7 years.
Maple Leaf will never win a cup when your top three players look like teenagers Mariner Matthews I forget the Swedish kids name you need grown men to win cups
Marner is Soft, afraid to get hit, next gm watch & count how many times he is pressed or simply turns over the puck. Even his shot or passes are weak/ Soft. Not worth the money or aggravation to have him on this team, there are harder working players.
@@rodbottomley4514 All non Leaf fans would like him traded to their team so I understand your comment . He would make a 50 goal scorer out of Suzuki and that would help your Habs immensely. Might even get them into the playoffs.
