Does Prayer Really Work? Prove it!

When common misconceptions are dismissed, it becomes possible to understand how prayer truly works - both according to the laws of nature and the doctrine of karma. Scientific evidence for the benefits of prayer must be considered, along with the limitations of scientific inquiry. This question leads beyond the boundaries of science.
Prayer cannot compel God to do anything, no does it work in supernatural or mysterious ways. Prayer is an action, a mental action (manasa karma) and every action must produce a result. The result of prayer is to invoke God's grace, the blessings of Ishwara. Even though this cannot be scientifically proved, it is confirmed by the experience of countless saints, sages, rishis, and gurus throughout the ages.

This take on prayer is super insteresting! I've never heard it explained like this my a believing person before at all; in a more realistic, scientific way (i.e. prayer can possibly have some benefits in a placebo kind of way for the praying individual). I'm an atheist, but I still enjoy learning about religion and different theologies a lot. Hinduism has always been of great interest to me. It is so attractive with all of it's rich history, colors, traditions, and stories. I've been really into learning abou advaita vedanta lately and I've been binging your videos for a few days now. So much of what I have heard you teach as of now has really been making my skeptical mind think in ways I have never thought before, and a lot of it has even kind of made sense, if I am understanding it correctly, even from a more skeptical and scientific point of view. I've studied a lot of Hinduism throughout the years, but you really have an amazing way of helping people to learn about the deeper layers of this belief system in a simple and understandable way. I have to admit that the English term "god" really throws me off and puts a few chills down my spine, but the term "brahman/ishvara", in the sense of "the first cause" or the first abstract energy that pushed the creation of our known universe into being has a much better ring to it, without the baggage and bad reputation that "god" has (at least in the West/in my mind). Thanks so much for sharing all of this with us. Namaste!

God has always answered my prayers or inquiries, but sometimes not right away. One example, I grew up catholic. As a kid, I'd always ask what happens to the priests when they are old? Who will take care of them cause they aren't married? Yea I was a weird kid 😀 As a nurse I worked in a friary and cared for the priests. Another example, my sons entire 24 years of life is all about his rare disease alagille. God has showed me the way every step of the way in order to help him, medically and educationally, in finding support. Everything. I am in constant communication. I cannot wait to meet who God really is. He knows everything about me, I talk with him constantly. I'm born christian, and I refer to him as male. My friend is born hindu, and refers to God as she. I tell my grandkids when asked, no one really knows until we die about life after death, cause no one came back, or remembers coming back. I agree with you from another video in which people are different in how we address god, or whoever, eg jesus, ganeesh, allah, mary, budha, etc. All i could say is that if atheists are right, we simply cease to exist, that really hurts me to the core. I pray that thats not true.

Swami, I appreciate your efforts in making this video. Prayer, as in chanting or repeating phrases, has no miraculous effects, this is true. But there is a way to pray which truly brings in miracles: with our imagination and entering states of consciousness, believing we have already received what we seek.

I have a hunch that further revelations regarding dark matter and dark energy may directly affect our lives. In the same way that string theory has correlated to the ancient Hindu and Buddhist principles of illusion and nature of reality, and can facilitate further credence to one's spiritual viewpoint. I know it has for me. The theory of a simulated universe also fits in. Regarding dark energy and dark matter, that 75% of the physical universe is still outside of our current comprehension, knowing that we know very little is a good place to be if we want to know more. I am looking forward to the day when modern science and religious beliefs can find common ground and not be in competition with each other. Imagine the progress the human race could make.

Is it hurdle in my spiritual journey? I can't decrease love for my nation & I can't forgive traitors. Please guide 🙏
@vanianup

Hating anything or anyone who is a part of this creation is a big hurdle in the path of spirituality because it blinds you from seeing the oneness of Brahman. The first thing I would recommend you to do is to drop as many perceptions and concepts that society taught you because there is a huge , deep politics and economy of hatred. Paramatma did not make countries , he did not even make religions. All these are concepts humans came up with as those concepts help in creating power pockets easy to manage by humans. To control others , to rule and there by to exercise unquestioned power. You are taught to hate because someone’s ancestors did something to your ancestors. But as a true Hindu if you know the concept of rebirth then you cannot know whether you were the perpetrators or victim in your past life. You don’t know whether you will be a perpetrator or victim in the future. Apply the concepts of “here and now” and don’t react to anything that is NOT here or now. Apply the concepts of Dharma (not religion but the universal human duties) and watch your Karma. It is not our duty from any angle to hate people who have themselves not wronged us personally.
@creativeschmuck8132
@creativeschmuck8132 2 года назад
@@vanianup while you are correct partially, it is important to be mindful of certakn realities. Hate no one, but the concept of dharma has to be defended when need be. In the grand scheme of things even Osama Bin Laden and Modi are the same, but on this dual platform we cannot sit idle and do nothing. Therefor a balance shoukd be maintained. Instead of hating terrorists I think a better thing is to simply eliminate them as a part of one's duty towards this land and not let the emotions get involved.
@vanianup
@vanianup 2 года назад
@@creativeschmuck8132 you are interpreting “dharma” as “religion” , a very wrong translation introduced by British. “Religion” needs defending, “dharma” is the law of nature or our natural duty. That needs us to follow it as per our nature. While Krishna Bhagawan asks Arjuna to follow Dharma to kill the Adharmis in front of him , he is asking Arjuna to follow his Dharma or duties of a warrior. The Adharmi’s killed were those who crossed Dharma to offend Arjuna and his family directly. No life was ever taken because of perception, or news. Nobody was killed because someone from their community, religion or family is said to have killed someone somewhere. You see, doing that is a sin. Thats why Ashwathama had to leave the battle ground. He killed innocent children. Know your “Dharma” first and then follow it. A warrior who is assigned the duties of protecting a society can kill the perpetrators proven to have caused damage. A common man cannot go on hating his neighbours or innocent people in the society because of things happening somewhere else, at some other time caused by someone else totally unrelated.

I am so sorry for your loss. Stay strong. But truth is Death is inevitable. Sometimes it may come early. Death doesn't differentiate between good and evil. Good and evil all these things are human constructs. These things don't matter on universal scale. But death is not the end. Everything in universe is cyclical so is life and death. So try to overcome your grief and pray for your mother. I had a friend who was 22. He died during first wave of corona. He was spiritual. He used to meditate. But none of this matters when our time on earth is over, we have to leave. That's the brutal but honest truth.
