I remember when good paint was 60-80usd for a case and the mid range stuff was 50-60usd. Now good paint is in the 50-60usd range, so prices are already pretty good.
I played paintball the most from 2005-2008 and recently I looked up prices, and I was shocked to see prices have not gone up pretty much at all. Paintball seems to be the one thing that hasn’t been touched by inflation. Although I’m not interested in playing right now because I have young kids, it’s nice to see.
I always get asked if I want to play on teams for a tournament, but I always turn it down. I worked so I can enjoy my paintball Saturdays without having to run drills or exercises. To me Paintball is about fun, and yes, tournaments are fun to some people, but I’d rather play recreational instead of holding a lane with 5 podsof paint.
Agree make one mistake and your teammates act like you committed murder. You're already beating yourself down for the mistake but the teammates make it for worse and usually take it to far just like what happened to the unknown soldiers
I agree. Larger and heavier balls just shot straighter and hit harder.....assuming they were of quality. The top end tournament paint back then was noticeably better than the mid range. Today.......not so much.
I've heard that the most exciting moment in sport is kickoff in a football game. Those people never witnessed the first 30 seconds of a 5 vs 5 paintball game with 15 bps rof.
I think adding the option to use a capped semi of 12-15bps would be fine. if players want to put in the effort to actually walk their triggers, then they can get something out of it.
Capped semi does not work. PSP tried it. What happens is some shots get skipped because the minimum interval between pulls is high and it just feels clunky.
Capped semi is nonsense... If you're going to allow semi, putting a cap on the rate of fire someone can achieve through manual skill is kind of f****** ridiculous
I miss 15bps. I don't know if it's nostalgia of the golden era, or the fact that the intensity was cranked to the max, but I miss it. The pros hardly move as it is. I think they would be just fine. And 15bps always made for awesome, heroic moments.
Get Mr.beast to donate 100k and get all the pro teams together. Run an unlimited “semi” day, 15bps day, a mech day. Give each pro a certain color paint fill so they can track who shot who and provide some sort of stat tracking. Unless money gets involved this sport is stagnant and impossible to broadcast or spectate on. End or rant I do miss 25-30bps bunkering people
I always liked 12.5. It was steady, not crazy fast but could throw a steady lane. I've been balling competitive since 98 when World Cup was in the woods behind Old Town lol. I hate that guys just sit on lanes in case someone "might" try to run through it mid-game. I think the higher rate of fire would actually cut down on this due to the amount of paint you can carry. You'd chew up paint so fast at 12.5-15bps that you couldn't throw that lane unless it was to facilitate a teammate move etc. Just my $.02. Either way, I think 10.5 blows.
Stock Tippmann 98 😂 . I wanna get an Emek 100. But I haven’t pulled the trigger on it yet . Been strapped lately, saw a good price on one not long ago but was short on cash .
@panchopistola8298 emeks are nice Though i highly recomend the Nova N4 Oden Its quieter and roughly the same price Though i like the fact its a closed bolt gun
I think the pros should be uncapped mech like any other sport. The only limitation should be you and your skill. The guns are definitely good enough now to keep up
Rate of fire can make the difference, but not every single time. Great aim and positioning always wins though. And even even though full auto isn't necessarily practical, its a ton of fun, and I love that I have a full auto kit in my First Strike T-15. :) For anyone interested in getting a T-15 with full auto capability (it won't be a lot, especially here, I get that), although the original full auto kits are hard to find now since they're discontinued, a new full auto kit being made by Mountain View Paintball, and its called the 'Legacy Trigger Kit'. Its available now for pre order, and the people who have already gotten one have said very good things about it! Super cool! :D
Having just starting playing again after quiting in 2014 theres way to many people who think catching 2 extra is over shooting and have a melt down. I think like one event a year should be either uncapped semi or 15 bps ramp.
Faster rate of fire helps define lanes so you can see what you're shooting at (spectators) and hold proper containment lanes. This also makes bump timing more crucial and possible instead of just guessing if your stepping out into a 8 pbs stream. There are many other advantages to player sponsorship programs and possible revenue intake for manufactures. Be cool to see 15 bps come back.
limited paint should be a thing. Check in with an empty hopper (checked by ref at chrono/start box), and 5 pods (1 to load hopper, 4 on the pack). No extended pods (standard 120). This helps teams budget paint cost (assuming expending all paint and playing the maximum number of matches). Also helps level the playing field... a price/salary cap of sorts. Well funded teams can't just win by volume of paint in the air. Its no doubt a team that comes on with 8 pods a person would likely beat a team with 4 pods a person.
Cool idea except, you know, capitalism. There’s no way an industry that overwhelmingly relies on the sale of paintballs is going to encourage shooting less paintballs. I’m shocked it went down to 10.2 bps. Probably because survivability goes up so more paint gets shot overall. And yes, I would absolutely expect a study was down on that by the manufacturers.
@@mbaroneva76except no one is making money when people don’t play as much or quit. So it doesn’t make sense that the only people shooting that much paint are upper divisional teams that are all sponsored or paying discounted rates for paint. Sponsored players don’t pay the bills
@@mbaroneva76except the paint companies know exactly how much paint to make. No waste on their end. No extra paint shipped to and maintained in trailers. There's savings there for them too. Of course the tournament can have unlimited paint divisions as well. I think D5 can really benefit from a limited paint format. Further if more teams can afford (via budgeting) to play they can grow the sport. Not everyone has the same capacity to pay for an unknown amount of paint.
I remember playing 15 balls per second competitively in 2009 now getting back into the sport. It definitely feels a lot easier. Fact that you really had to be on top of it or else you would get lit up, now it feels like there’s more time to do head checks and move around.
Paintball was at its peak when 15BPS was going. There was a gun and hopper arms race which we are reaping the benefits now. Not sure if he knows what he is talking about when it comes to 15PBS and the guns. Most of those guns would perform close to now if you limited them to 10PBS with the exception of the bolt speed, I'll touch on that later. The performance had a lot to do with regs having a hard time keeping up with high rate of fire and the paint breakage was also due to the rate of fire. They have also slowed the bolt travel speed down since those days to shoot more consistently and not break paint. try and shoot a modern gun at 15BPS or higher. Most high end guns can't go much past 13BPS, seriously try it. Semi Auto uncapped is where it was at. We just made a knee jerk reaction and corrected the cheater boards issue incorrectly. With Bluetooth tech we can verify board code and modes now. For the pros to D2 or 3 this would not be and issue to upgrade boards or guns. Gun tech and the sport have stagnated, this would reenergize it and maybe get some people buying new gear, which the manufactures desperately need.
I have picked up two used markers. A 170r and a Shocker AMP. Both have been fantastic. If you are looking to upgrade without spending too much. I’d recommend buying a used marker.
I remember when 15-20bps was standard. You could most definitely move. You just have to really practice snapshooting. Game definitely needed more skill back then
I carried 7-9 pods depending on the layout back then. You didn't live that long or games/points ended quickly. There wasn't much sitting and laning bc you'd get rolled when they put it together. I'm thinking hopper & 4 pods will cut down stalemates. If there's 90secs where no one shoots, end it as a no point.
Legitimately curious if the reffing for those tournaments has gotten better… on an old short bus episode by derder they were shown to be comically over zealous
@@HikoSejuroVIIII reffing is never going to be 100% in any event you play either with football paintball or soccer, I think they do a pretty good job most times. Also the short bus always over exaggerated things, we have pros come over and guest on teams all the time and they never really complain
@HikoSejuroVIIII the "Short Bus" era of reffing ended many years ago. It was only a few that forgot that the players are the Customers not the enemy.😅
Whats the cost of starting a paintball field? Let's say 2 speedball fields, 1 hyperball course and 1 other random course (probably not woodsball). How many rental guns would you need conservatively?
Best gun under $1k: I don't need the newest thing out there so I bought a PE 170R when the 180R came out. Ansgear had them on deal and I love the gun. Definitely more than I was looking to spend but packaged at $800 with hopper and tank I couldn't resist
7 BPS is fine it's the small field with tons of bunkers that's the issue. I suggest bring back nppl style fields longer and have yardage lines and make is 7man. Bigger fields means more movement on the fields for more aggressive players there for bigger moves but instead of nxl 7wins make it 3wins over all 5matches We need more mid to low end guns to bring new blood the high cost is a massive turn off especially lower high end guns price there outrageous nowadays. And finally we need more paintball advertising
oh the old school days of uncapped rof... the one guy (on earth) that had a working warp fed emag hada field day. psp/nxl limt really cleaned up the pain side of getting lit up from misjudging a gap.
When I was playing around 2005 25-35bps was absolutely normal at any field. Bob Long intimidator/Angels/Dye guns could all hit that with different boards or playing with settings. 10.5 bps now is a joke, we also played at 300-320fps. Local fields in my area are all 10.5bps and 250fps so why not just buy a used mini for 150 bucks.....what the heck is the point of a 2500 dollar gun now? Just ego or flexing sponser money around I guess. Back then you actually needed to spend that money to keep up with the bps rates without breaking balls, now its 10.5 so who cares lol
I can comfortably rip 10.3 on semi auto without getting tired too quick. So thats where i limited my marker for a universal field play. 2 or 3 balls per second is going to keep them in place the same as 15. Its more about staying consistent with your shots so you can move forward and take cover. Thats all that everyone does all the time in every type of gameplay.
I think the 3 man tournament all depends on location you are. The xtpl here in Texas at paintball fit they help you find a team to get the ball rolling.
Try true semi..........you won't like your mood lol. Electronic guns all use buffered shots to make it seem like you're shooting fast and smooth when in reality half the trigger pulls are out of time duds that dont' result in a shot. It's crazy how much electronics actually enhance your shooting.
@@MrBottlecapBill “True Semi” the mode adopted by the soon to be defunct PSP is not what people are talking about when they say semi. Semi means the one ball fired per trigger pull. True Semi was a firing mode that would only register a pull within a set timeframe meaning the gun wouldn’t fire one shot per ball. True Semi is a brand name from the psp. It’s not more semi that a stock semi mode on every board every made…. Glad we cleared that up…
boomer take for sure. 15 bps was amazing - its a happy medium of not too fast but certainly not slow. The guns are ripping. Its ridiculous to limit the guns to 10.5... it feels like driving a ferrari stuck at 80 mph. The guns shot amazing then and so did the paint.
I miss the 12.5 of the 2010's psp days. That's when I got into speedball. My favourite rof. And paint has gotten so much worse. Size was way bigger and it always seemed to be a better quality and shoot straighter. Especially after covid quality paint has been a struggle. I also think the paint cap of NXl europe should be a north american thing as well.
Coming from a guy who regularly puts his electrics between 5bps and 8bps - higher ROF does nothing but use more paint. I can still steamroll guys shooting 10+ bps. 95% of us are just weekend warriors. Idk about any of y’all, but I’m not trying to pay for multiple cases of paint each weekend I play.
I wish people would quit bitching about paint prices. The prices we pay today are pretty much identical to what I paid in 1999. Adjusted for inflation, that means prices have dropped. I would, however, pay a premium for old school high quality RPS Big Ball. Those .693 balls flew true.
I was always of the opinion that 15 BPS was hilariously low. I much prefer around 20 to 25 bps and I didn't care if I had to run semi to do that. When I got introduced to 10 bps ramping in college tournaments I hated it..... At that rate just give me semi. People can have their opinions, but I will stand here with three full barrels of pure hate for the idea of playing any game mode where the rate of fire has been artificially restricted, I don't want to face that, and I don't want to play that. If I don't feel like I am facing down a machine gun nest in WW2... That is not the game I fell in love with.
“Paint wasn’t as good”. Now that’s just an outright lie. All modern paint is garbage and I’m tired of pretending like it’s not. Name a single modern paint that’s better than 2000s chronic 420, ultra evil, GAP banana ball, Hellfire, etc
Not sure why my other comment disappeared. But, yep. No good paint exists anymore. Also this weekend I used supposedly high quality paint and an expensive barrel kit that chopped like crazy no matter the insert. Swapped to a one piece 688 and it was way more consistent and way less breaks lol
I completely agree. Even fresh 5 star or Voltanium at the NXL events is noticeably lower quality than just off the shelf RPS or Zap paints were back in the day.
I played at 15 bps, I also played at full auto 15bps. Honestly it makes little difference. Yes there's more paint in the air BUT you also have to spend more time reloading which evens out the lane openings. Paintballs are still no more accurate at 15bps so you can still get through those lanes with only slightly worse odds than 10.bps......if you want to run directly through lanes that is. Honestly if you watch full unedited footage from that era it wasn't much different. It just cost a lot more money and you had a lot more bruises. 🤣
I quit playing about 2004, and only got back into it about 2018. The paint was WAY better bitd. It was softer. I remember that you couldn't easily shoot though a bush without it breaking on every leaf and twig. Heck at one tournament guys were throwing sand in the air and it would break the paint. The new stuff hits hard like a rock. Especially the 1 star crap. It's heavily lopsided. And I think it hurts paintball more then anything. New players use the cheap stuff, get hurt and then don't come back.
15.4 or true semi is the only way to go. the current 10.4 really sucks and is a step back for technology. perhaps 13.3... when you turn the volume down that much it really dulls the experience - yes it is a considerible amount of paint, but hearing the buzzer go and 5v5 or 7v7 hearing the rof was something else off the break out.
It all comes down to layout. 100 knuckles isn't going to get people moving more. 50 large cans will........but it will be chaos and impossible to see anything. Field design is an under appreciated skill in my opinion. You can make or break a field on layout alone. I personally prefer fields with a slight stand up bunker bias as opposed to crawling and kneeling bunkers. I think when more people are on their feet the game opens up and is more exciting.
I may like my fast markers, but? We do NOT need Rentals getting striped up with absurd ROF's. That lost us a lot of potential great players in the 00's because they got roped up by an AGGlet who had no chill and they got throughly discouraged to come back and play again. Treat newbies well, they may become regulars, and a regular my become the next pro.
To me its not the marker, its the loader. I play with a 45rd Zap ammo box or a homemade copper tube stick feed and ten rd tubes. And thats on my Classic Desert Fox or 68 Mag. The battery force fed machine guns, and attitudes ruined alot of paintball.
I Started playing in 2004, I played national events at 15bps 13.3bps 12.5 bps and 10.5bps. The best rate of fire by far was 12.5 that is what it should be. 15 was stupid, 13.3 didn’t make a difference from 12.5 but you used more paint and it was more expensive. 10.5 is too slow.
You could get thru a divisional Sunday playing 10man or 7man with less than 50 cases of paint. It's og xball that cranked those practice skids and skid+ event weekends. What do you expect with 20 min halves and 15-30 point matches? Reducing rof doesn't really reduce the paint bill for practice. Changing the format to something like 1v1s helps people play events and increases participation. Want more casuals and intermittent event participation? Change the format from 5man xball.
At High Lvl and Pro Lvl it should be Unlimited, If you can live at High lvl`s >> Then show it, What`s the point the same at Very Low Lvl`s the same as High Lvl`s > Show the Skills I say ??
DISAGREE.. 15bps was the best.. not as many bunkers, smaller bunkers, and wider gaps makes it way harder with the 15 to even stay in one place.. I bet games would be faster, and only the more athletic teams would win.
Great solution. Have the game have dedicated positions. Back player, snake player, dorrito player and 2 gunners. Back player 15 balls a second, can't move up unless they're only 2 players left on their team. Snake and dorrito have to attempt to get in both off thr break, limited 8 balls a second. Gunners free to move anywhere between snake and dorritos 10.5 balls a second. Snake player has stay in smake until they get past 50, then free go anywhere, same with dorrito and once any player passes 50, they're free to go anywhere on opposing side
