Mickey-Jo explaining Rocky Horror with dolls is the most Rocky Horror thing in existance. BTW The Time Warp was originally a time filler performed after Frank's song to give him time for the lab coat costume change. Should be pointed out that Sue Blane is the original costume designer of the show, designing the costumes for the original 1973 production and the iconic 1975 film. Would be interesting to take the show back to its roots with the classic "demolished cinema" aesthetic and setting

It's hard to believe that there are actually people who don't know RHPS, but love your description with dolls ...I first started seeing the film at midnight showings in 1980 and audience participation was part of the film back in those days makes me smile to know it's endured

Oh I've missed plot synopsis with plushies! This is one of my favourite shows and I used to be part of a shadow cast for almost a decade. It was fantastic times. It must have been such a thrill to meet Richard!!

Seeing it tonight for the first time on stage. I look forward to hearing the audience gags. It's like watching The Room in the cinema I'm sure. Love dedicated fandoms 😁😁😁

I saw a production years ago where during superheroes Janet held her stomach as if pregnant they don’t seem to do that as much any more but that one little gesture changes the ending so much. Also in the same production I think they rearranged eddies teddy to have a gospelesque feel.

Saw the BBC broadcast of this production in 2015. Great memories.

I saw Jason play Frankenfurter back in 1999 at the Victoria Palace Theatre, in what you can call his more partygoers days. He forgot his lines and the audience was shouting them out to him. He gave the audience the middle finger and told us to sit on it and rotate… it was hilarious and what ended up making this version of the show so unique and special.

Agree it feels samie, but it’s still such a fun show... saw it for the first time in a decade last year UK tour. Was delighted to see the plush return! Trying to work out if that’s a card board cut out or a costume in todays background? Always enjoy your staging ..

I haven't seen this production for a long time. I saw this at the Wimbledon Theatre maybe 15 years ago. I always stayed away since then, not because I didn't enjoy it, but I did think it was just not an adventurous production. Christopher Luscombe was directing then and your criticisms or maybe I should say dreams, for a more updated dated version to make it more edgy is what I have wanted to see. The last version I saw was the one that was shown on television. But I have bought tickets to see it in Brighton next year.

True story: about a decade ago I played Eddie/dr Scott/narattor. (Eddie was a trial let me tell you). And it was a shadow cast, but this was a fundraiser for an arts center. I’m back stage for the most part except for some criminologist bits and no one is saying anything. So I’m backstage, ind I’m like fuck it, so I started shouting out the audience participation stuff and suddenly more and more people were picking it up. I guess sometime people just need permission to give their self over to absolut pleasure!

This just feels like the same touring version that has been going around and around for years and years. It needs a drastic refresh to get it back to its sexy, dark and dangerous roots. Frank needs to be dangerous.

I completely DISAGREE. The Rocky Horror Show was a hit musical in London and then Los Angeles WITHOUT the audience participation. That didn't start until the movie camp out, flopped, and then made into into the Midnight Movie circuit on the U.S. Those audiences created the audience responses and also the shadow cast. I just recently saw a local production and just a handful in the audience tried the call outs, which the cast handled, but for the most part the ACTUAL show was performed as originally intended and greatly enjoyed by the audience. Also, when this show was created "queer" was a slur, and to many of us it still is.

Have seen this show many times in Sydney. I did however give the most recent couple of productions a miss… mainly because it has felt a bit watered down. I have friends who loved it and those who were disappointed (the latter having seen the show previously). There was some controversy surrounding back in (i think) 2014 surrounding Craig McLachlan (Frank) and sexual harrassment allegations which put a bit of a dampener on the show here in Aus.

Personally, I'd rather see the show without the call lines. But I also think the various stage versions have gotten too cartoony (I've seen parts of this production on RU-vid--but it's a general direction the show has gone in since probably the 1980's, so it can't really be blamed on the creative team here). Wish they'd go back to the intermission-less, low budget, unpolished iteration of the show that it began as (with "Sweet Transvestite" preceding "Time Warp," rather than following it). Edit: Wow this comment sounds sour. I've been a fan of the film/stage show since the early eighties. I've owned tons of cast recordings and books. Lead and ran a cast at the cinema once upon a time. It's a near perfect little piece of camp nostalgia and tinfoil fantasy. It seems to have been lost in later productions, but it was also a nifty commentary on the early 70's glam era, too.

@@christophersmith3341 I would love to see a one act version - this material without call lines is wildly short!

@@MickeyJoTheatre Huh? Have they cut material there, because it is a full length two act musical when I've seen multiple U.S. productions. And those were without audience call backs.

17:03 Wow. Never really thought about how much of a privileged bubble this guy lives in! Where I live, THIS show is edgy and subversive and people love it for that! Imagine living in a bubble where critics whinge on about it being too … tame??
