To be able to understand Sadhguru, all you need to do is to carve little deep within. You would be able to relate to each and every word he utters.

Sadhguru answered the question and his answer was he only knows himself he doesn't know God or even the people sitting there, he is realized he is aware of his body, self, soul and stop trying to turn the man into a god. Personally i appreciate his honesty other gurus claim so much

But his answer confirms that his knowledge of even himself is not complete as god and individuals souls have the same essence...if one knows everything about self then by definition of god and self he knows everything about god as well and vice versa

When people ask a question, they expect a certain answer. We should ask questions with an open empty mind to be able to absorb it all. If Sad guru said, yes, then more questions would follow, maybe. Once you experience God, there are no questions left and there will be only bliss. I believe that's why Sad guru is in that state.

It's a sublime way of getting the point across which is... He does not directly say that self is God and he does not directly say that God does not exist etc. It's a kind of koan (riddle) that cannot be solved. He can't make them understand the duality of it so he says "I only know this" (life).

A very old (Islamic) proverb from the Middle East says: "Know yourself and you will know God" - it is as simple as that. But you cannot know your true self until you dissolve the "ego", that is what Alan Watts would call "your lower self". When "I" and "Me" are gone, then and only then, will You truly know God. When the ego is fully destroyed You will become One with HU. There has never been another way and there will never be another way.

Can we think of two beings more widely separated than God and the sinner? Yet where will we find two beings more closely united? "There is nothing," says St. Bernard, "more elevated than God, and nothing more base than the clay of which man is formed. Yet God has with such great humility clothed Himself in this clay, and the clay has been so honorably raised to God, that we may ascribe to the clay all the actions of God, and to God all the sufferings of the clay." (Super Cant. Hom. 59 et 64).

The reason why so many people are "dissatisfied" with Sadhguru's answer, is that they still want Sadhguru to either affirm their beliefs or argue with them. They're not interested in what Sadhguru himself wants to say. Sadhguru's first reply was very straightforward, "Which God?" The obvious unspoken part of the reply was, "If the thing you're asking for is undefined, what am I supposed to talk about?" but the questioner still did not want to explain what he meant by "God", so Sadhguru answered as accurately as he could, "I know what I have experienced. That's all. People interprete that I'm talking about other things, even God. That's their interpretation." I don't see what's so hard to understand about this reply.

Beautiful answer. You have to be very intelligent to understand that god is not conceivable to our tiny little brains\minds. So what you think is god is nothing near to the truth and it really is not in our experience. The closet you can come is through selfless devotion with no deal making by just letting go and trusting god and the universe.

In my point of view it's a well constructed answer by Sadhguru.. 1) To begin it was a wonderful rebuttle to the sociology lecture (which took him by surprise and also got him offended) "Which GOD are you seeking". GOD'S are certainly man made, however there could be a supreme power who created life. 2) Life in single cell organism and life in a complex cellular organism is the same. Therefore, in ourselves we have the entire cosmos. Krishna opens his mouth and his mother could see the entire universe. 3) Our Upanishads quote about "Aham Brahmasmi". I believe that is what Sadhguru is trying to explain by saying that He knows what he is within and his life. One can find god/devil in oneself, hell or heaven in the present because of one's action "Karma Balam". This just my understanding. I do understand that few them get offended if they don't get a "Yes" or "No" to an answer. But then why do we need a Sadhguru or a Guru or Baba to give his opinion. We need a teacher or guidance from a person to provoke an idea in our head and think about it and come to a conclusion than just giving an close ended opinion. Therefore, he is not beating around the Bush but he is putting us to think and allowing us to come to a conclusion than enforcing his point of view. Would be happy to see a positive discussion rather than trying to prove anyone wrong or right...

St. Augustine said, "our hearts are restless till they find their rest in God". It is, therefore, a deep dissatisfaction, and hunger for "something" which prompts our search to satisfy this need, this emptiness. I'd be curious for a response.

Defination of God is given in Bhaagwat Gita. Lord Krishna explain about him ( his aakar and existence) to Arjuna. But, most people get confused and ask a wrong question.. ( have u seen or experienced God? ) We always relate things based on our 5 senses. Thats why we believe in seeing, hearing, smelling, touching ...right? If something does not fall to these categories then we become skeptical. We want to see God in human form, thats the first thing we need to correct! If we consider God the creater and super creature, then logically we should think that the super creature must have a different form n shape ( maybe beyond a physical form...who knows)..So, to experience n visualize God, either God has to come in human form OR we have to acquire different sort of senses to feel or experience or see God. We just have to work on it...if i claim tomorrow that i have experienced God ...i dont think i will be able to explain a layman as - how God looks or feels... its like explaining theory of relativity to a kid:)) This is just my opinion..not intended to hurt anybody's feelings or belief - system.

It is a very difficult question to answer. Its a straightforward question requiring a straightforward answer. If the guru says yes, then the next question that automatically comes is "Which god","How did he see","When did he see", "How did he look like" etc. Not only Sadhguru, nobody can answer this question. Hence, sadhguru diplomatically gave him the answer.

I respect Sadguru a lot but I am not satisfied with what he said. He should have spoken something about 'Turiya'-concept enshrined in the Upanishads. My personal view is 'We can't experience GOD' as He is Turiya(something beyond senses). At the same time I believe We are nothing but the elements of God experiencing his own creation. That is We are nothing but Universe experiencing itself. As they say the eye can see everything but the eye itself!

According to enlightened people the God is consciousness, which is pervading the whole universe. Consciousness is formless, timeless and beyond space. Source of all creation is consciousness. Seers have explained all these from their experiential knowledge. So the presence of God can only be experienced and can not be defined. Some metaphors, that are found in Vedic texts, can only be cited.

God is Life and Life is God. When you have experienced Life you also have experienced God. When you have experienced God you also have experienced Life. All your misery comes from seperating God and Life through concepts. The concepts are the true Maya. Let go of all those concepts and a lot of misery will leave together with them. You will then perceive life for what it really is. And through that you will perveive 'God'. Not as a concept, but as a reality.

CHANRIKAMUNUSWAMY MUNUSWAMY I would appreciate if there was awareness in people to call it Sanatan Sanskriti or Vedic Dharma. Sanatan Sanskriti is repository of knowledge with human evolution. This evolved with the time and yug (kaal). 1. The place between Himalaya in north to indu sarovar (Indian ocean) is called Hindu. Himalya Hi and Indu. Makes the word Hindu. Used for geographic demarcation. Hindu kush mountain Hindu river called as Sindhu river all indicated the sanskrit origin of the word. But yes doesn't indicate religion but Geographic. Hindustan is a pure sanskrit origin word. Read the puran. The muslim invaders tried to demean the word Hindu with many bad words to show them down and paint them as bad people. This is how racist jokes are created. 2. Since Dharma evolved and led humans from darkness to light from ignorance to knowledge. "tamso ma jyotirgamaya". There was no other religion to compete So there is no name, no rules for bashing other religion and concept of conversion. You can't bash criticize or compete non existent. 3. This is why got more than 1400 books scriptures on various topics helpful in material and spiritual life and this knowledge evolved with time. 4. Ayurvda, Medicine, Vyakrna, Natyashashtra, state crafts, yagya hawan ritual, philosophy, astrology, Jyotish, poetics, sangita shastra, yoga, Veda,Vedanta, Puran, Mimansa architecture mathematics to name a few. Books are available on every aspect of human brain can imagine in such a detail that only one book Mahabharat contains one lakh shlokas. 5. In short Dharma is celebration of the diversity of Human knowledge. 6. We as a layman only know about Dharma as a blind man knows about elephant after holding the tail of the elephant. 7. Most of us are only able to know what we see on daily basis like nature and creation worship. And on the basis of this we criticize and appreciate dharma. But Dharma criticize none. Dharma don't give scope for criticism but enlightenment and seeking truth . 8. There is so much more to know. Since I am born in a Dharma followers family. Therefore I celebrate the diversity of human thoughts with ease. Dose not mean i know everything. But once you will know Dharma out of the set criteria of Abrahamic religion for Dharma. You will find nothing to criticize like a blind man holding an elephant tail and saying why he is made to hold a snake. Instead of criticism You will question and seek answers. 9. For example when you see a survivor on discovery eating dead animal poo and pee either you appreciate or criticize this. But no one can deny that this human will survive the odd. And Dharma have a complete set of philosophy and practicing sect called aghori. However a few. To make sure that the human will survive the extreme. Human will not die out because of the certain dogmas made by the so called civilized society or religion. Dharma supports all accommodates all. 10. Religion ends at heaven and hell only but the Dharma gives to strive even beyond this. That's Moksha complete liberation. 11. If someone adopts Sanatan dharma way of life. He automatically fits into the either Varna Vyavstha Brahman Kshatriya Vaishya Shudra according to profession or Ashram Vyavstha Brahmacharya Grihasth Vanprasth and Sanyas. Together its called Varnashram Vyavstha for the benefit of the society. I can enlighten you on this vedic Varnashram vayvstha. Mail me Varna division start from us. Our head is our brahma to control our shoulders are our kshatriya to protect us our stomach is our vysya to feed us and our foot are our shudra to serve us. Another term division of profession. Which exists all over the world in different forms. And this is most scientific division of profession to avoid conflict in society. This Varna can be achieved by your Karma. To fit into Ashram one has nothing to do. Fits in naturally and can stay in any of the phase as long as he wants. Now it depends on us that we respect equally to our teacher and our toilet cleaner. Which Dharma clearly says respect each and every thing. This is why worship for all not only to teachers. So if you respect your teacher and toilet cleaner equally you are a great Dharmik person. Now where you see fault in this varna system. Lots of Rishi were not born in cast Brahman but respected worshipped. For details you mail me. Cast seems a tribal identity with all the evils of Ego and depends totally an individual local social environment no support from Dharma 12. Sanatan Dharma allow an individual to seek truth, follow a path or make his her own path to reach the goal of 'Brahma" the energy and consciousness of the Universe. The feeling of अहं ब्रह्मास्मी, I am the consciousness makes one enlighten and तत् त्वमसी, so are you makes you a Guru. This is the reason encouraged many enlightened soul to find and make their own path. Thus Jainism, Buddhism, Sikhism, sant parampra like Kabir, Ravidas etc were born without any conflict. Dharma allowed them to propagate and flourish 13. Comparing Dharma with one book one prophet religion is not a good idea. Can only increase ignorance. Because books of mazhab are small simple and for that for the followers of that particular mazhab only. So better study the world's oldest surviving civilization based on Dharma with universal application, yourself. अहं बर्हमासमी l तत त्वं असी. सर्वे जना:सुखिनो भवन्तु. सर्वे सन्तु निराम्या:l वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम l

Ankit Arya ...nah..the witch still doing my neighbour..why you asking bud ? What has this to do with thr question being asked ? Sadhguru is a wise individual but whenever it comes to religion he seems to turn back into himself..which doesnt mean that he is wrong. We all have different ways to experience the existence of a spiritual energy. One links it to religion the other to spirituality, etc.. The answer in my opinion to this is to find the truth for yourself. Consciousness will get you to find your answer.. There are many roads that leads to Rome. Choose which one fits you the best.

Many person in comments are shitting about the answer was complex. That guy asked, have you seen or know GOD. This is the most difficult question one can ask a person. Not even highly intellectual person could answer this question without going round and round. There is a incident when someone asked Gautam Bhuddha about the existence of god. Read that answer and then come here and listen to what sadguru had said, you will find his answer more descriptive. Note: Brahman, the God concept in the Hindu 'Upnished' says that, the Brahman is in the cosmos and the outside the cosmos. This is a straight answer. If you could understand this, you don't need sadguru. I personally didn't understood it until sadguru describe it. However, you have to listen to his words multiple times and in multiple scenarios to really understand.

nitt inn We all interpret things differently and there is nothing wrong in that but it's important to remember that what we interpret out of something defines our journey. This is how I understood him "If I know myself well then it means that I am experiencing the creator and the creation within me. I am experiencing life within me. Then where is the question of god and where is the necessity to seek for god when you already know what's happening within you. Just know yourself and the self is what he is referring to as divine. It's just my way of looking at it and doesn't have to apply to anyone. By the way, Please do not take the literal meaning of the word 'Self'. It in itself is a universe.

Can a thing which is limited measure entity which is limitless ?. Man's senses of perception are limited and the Creator/Source/Consciousness/God (or call it by any other name) is limitless so the question of knowing God has no specific answer.

That is the difference between earlier saints and modern gurus. When Ramakrishna was asked the same question, he didn't give 3 minutes speech (by the end of which you'd hardly make any sense about what he meant) but replied Vivekananda "yes, I do. And I talk to him the same way I'm talking to you at present."

Gaurav Lambole, way of answering questions depends on the situation and receipient's intensity of knowing. Budha also answered in the same way contradictorily for different people
@gauravl5457
@gauravl5457 6 лет назад
Krishnachandra Panigrahi , that time Vivekananda was just an ordinary guy meeting Ramakrishna for the very first time. Vivekananda didn't have any spiritual background till that time. Also, the question was plain and simple to answer, if he wished to asnwer that way. Moreover, it is not the only instance, there are other videos too where he first mocks the questioner and then gives a 5 min speech that is irrelevant to the question.
@KrishnachandraPanigrahi
@KrishnachandraPanigrahi 6 лет назад
Gaurav Lambole, I understand your view, since I was also seeking for such straight, short answers. But it requires a different level of intelligence and perception to get there. Vivekananda was so intense with the question that he could not rest and satisfied with any answers, I.e. his seeking for Truth reached a level of intenseness that it has to be answered. Another thing is same question seeks different answers for different people. Accordingly they are answered. Sadhguru answers differently for different people of perception.
@KrishnachandraPanigrahi
@KrishnachandraPanigrahi 6 лет назад
Gaurav Lambole, once he answered that "if crying is the only way you can ask, and you can't live without knowing it... Then I can make you understand the answer for your questions".

Krishnachandra, The definition of truth is - it should remain same, forever and for all. It should not depend on who's asking the question. What if this question had been handed over to Satguru on a piece of paper (anonymously)? :)
@HH-df2qr
@HH-df2qr 6 лет назад
A lot of comments are about Sadhguru skirting the question. My take is this. It is all about perception. Sadhguru told his perception. You did not understand as you have your own perception of what god is. Your perception and his perception clashes. Both can be correct. Maybe both may be wrong. So if not satisfied with response, seek somewhere else. Ask other people. If their presception matches yours, you will be satisfied. As someone said, you believe only things you are comfortable with.

So Yogananda Pramahansa said what you wanted to hear. Check your cognitive biases. For Sad guru, go do an evaluation of a short video of his, say, on homo-sexuality (6-7mins). You will find a half dozen or so logical fallacies in there. A large part of his talk revolves around individual freedom : conscious living and facing the consequences, or responsibilty. Coming from a Daoist background, couldn't help thinking he pinched this right out of the Laozi Classic. Socially, it's difficult to live as an homosexual. Still many chose to live as such. Nobody can say they aren't facing the consequences of their choice.

Irfan Caan Islam ka one God dhong aur jahiliyat hai. Bahut hi simple soch walon k liye hai. Jo ki question na kare. Question Aur logic par bilkul khada nahi utarta. Aur Sanatan dharma ka ekeswarvad authentic question aur logic par har yug kaal time me khada utra hai. Arab ya Europe ka one God toh copy hai simple hai chhota hai aur Arab Europe k jahiliyat k daur me banaya gaya tha. Waha k bilkul hi murkh aur barbar janta k liye. Mai koi master nahi hu Sanatan dharma ka but mai in mazhab wale kisi bhi maulana ya padri ko 30 minute me nirutar kar dunga. Kyuki quran hadis me koi logic nahi blind faith wali Baat Hai. Toh kyu na hamara apna bahut hi uche darze ekeswarvad apnaya jaye aur desh duniya me maan samman paya jaye. Dusre desh dusre culture ka one God ek allah ka concept jo kachha pakka hai usko apna kar mazak bane, bezzati aur Maar kaat wali zindgi mili. Yahi soch samjh kar alim aur padri fir se Sanatan dharma me aa jate hai. Jab unko koi yah sach batane wala rasta dikha dete hain. Islam internet ka information age nahi jhel payega. Ab satya ko chhipaya nahi ja sakta. Internet ki wajah se Islam ka ant ho jayega.
