Before he was a five-time All-Star or an NBA scoring champion, Joel Embiid was part of The Process™, a strategy concocted by former Philadelphia 76ers GM Sam Hinkie that centered around building a winning franchise…by losing. Tanking in the NBA (and other sports) is a tale as old as time, but does it actually work?

Spurs tanked 22-23 season and got Webamyama, so yes, tanking sbsolutely works. Dude is 7'4" and moves like bron.

let's see if they win a championship with him first before heralding it as a good strategy.

Lol we don't even know what kind of player he's going to be in the NBA so that's premature as hell

Detroit just called and said they beg to differ. I guarantee, for every Spurs example there are a bunch of examples where it didn't work. For example, the Sixers famously tanked and 12 years later still haven't advanced any further in the playoffs than the 2012 team they dismantled to start their "process."

Tanking is definitely a pathetic strategy.
