So the new Dead Space remake came out recently. After a string of mediocre remakes and remasters over the past few years, most people weren't expecting much from it. But after being quite surprised in my own playthrough, I just had to share my thoughts.

I hate how it's not standard for remakes to have a version of the original you can play bundled with them. Really damages the legacy of the original.

Some remakes/remasters are just graphical upgrades so having a toggle is a neat feature (like they did with Halo). But other times the code or even engines are completely different so it would be impossible to have both together. They could give you a key for the old game when you buy the new one, but that's more of a marketing/sales thing. They're just gonna do whatever maximizes profit.

@@EphiTV for sure it's more pipe dream stuff than a realistic expectation, it's just sad that a lot of people will never engage with the original games because the remake is more often than not more convenient and or cheaper. MediEvil is still my gold standard remake for offering the original alongside the remake in the same game so it covers all bases.

All I remember from this game is stupid jump scares you could kinda guess would happen and I never used any other weapon than the one given at start, because I didn't want to waste materials on upgrades. I played it through but I never really liked it. It felt off for me for some reason. UI was geniously implemented though.

If you want a cool indie survival horror game to check out try Signalis, It came out last year in October. I bought the game on a whim and a good word, I have never played any survival horror games before but I've latched onto this game pretty hard and its now one of my fav games. I heard this game compared to the og silent hill games in feel and gameplay. Very different aesthetic though think east Germany cold war vibes in a lovecraftian horror. Got a ps1/2 look and anime esque one in closeups.

I played the demo a while back and it was cool, very similar to classic silent hill. Never got around to trying out the full game though. There's a lot of good survival horror out there if you're just jumping in to the genre. The recent RE4 remake is especially excellent.

Looks very nostalgic. Played a bunch of stuff like that on the old Sega Saturn/Genesis as a kid. Like Earthworm Jim or Toejam & Earl. Pretty neat they're bringing back that style.

I've had it take a very long time to launch once or twice. Might need to kill the process and retry. Or reinstall. Or update graphics drivers. The usual stuff. Dunno if there's any specific tricks for this one though.

@@EphiTV yea I’ve done all that, it launches in a small black window in the corner of my screen, tries to load shaders then crashes every time
