Private Investigators are basically useless against cults, they are very limited with what they can do. That's the problem with cults, they are all protecting each other and nothing happens without the leader knowing, if the P.I. is figured out to be linked to a certain person then that person is gonna get extra abuse or whatever the cult is specifically abt, let's just call it "special attention" to cut them off even more from their family members. Cops are worthless 100% vs cults if the person is 18 you can forget abt the cops even caring.

This is such a sad sad story. My heart breaks for Miranda's parents and Melanie. This is absolutely a terrible cult that's ruining lives as cults do. Thanks Whitney for covering this one. I've watched the RU-vidr, Without A Crystal Ball who was involved in covering this for years and helped in the Dancing with the Devil doc. She was sued by Robert Shin for defamation. It never went very far. She of course had a lawyer to represent her.

I started following LYK because it presented the least salacious, most fact driven, content I had found on LawTube. I was not surprised that Whitney gave the least salacious, most fact driven breakdown of the 7M Cult that I've heard - not easy when the story was so emotionally charged from the start. I'm really enjoying this new format and the take it provides on some cases.

Peter, I really enjoyed this podcast. It’s always great to see Whitney too. As an atheist, I found this particularly interesting. I see religion and cults as the same thing but I absolutely believe in religious freedom and separation of church and state. It’s very important that the government doesn’t make certain beliefs illegal. We’re also responsible for our stupid decisions. It was really interesting to hear your legal take and Whitney‘s questions. Thank you for doing this.

Thanks so much! 20 years ago this happened to us with my sister-in-law. We couldn’t just go get her back because that would’ve been kidnapping. Thank God, she decided to come home when the cult tried to talk her into killing her dog. I understand Whitney‘s frustration and I think anyone who’s been through. This feels the same.

This seems to me like one of a few things that should be illegal as exceptions to the freedom of idiotic religion rule: 1. If they try to coerce you into killing anything or anyone. F "religious freedom." 2. They do their best to isolate you from friends and family, unless it can be proven that your friends and family are violent and COERCIVE. Family belief systems are no different than religious belief systems. Religious "freedom" has been the single biggest killer of human beings, including children & babies, since the dawn of time. So get off your high & mighrt bs horse, all religions. Especially fundamentalist religions which are all exactlty the same whether Christian, Muslim, Jewish or anything else. By which I mean that US fundamentalist "christians" are absolutely no different than the Taliban or Netanyahu's version of Judaism. Violent, sociopathic killer every one, whether leader or parisioner or whatever TF you aholes call your fing selves.

Changes to law won’t help and will only be taken advantage of people who are that way inclined. We need to teach through the generations throughout their lives such as through school the key factors of cults and introduce a line or two that should not be crossed/accepted one being estrangement from family. Teach people what to look out for so that changes in law aren’t necessary.

I had subscribed to the LA dancers group on Insta. I had no idea what was behind it, until I saw the parents and sister post on Insta that ended up on my feed. Algorithm I guess. It just looked like a dance group. Then I saw there was a documentary and was shocked at all the happenings. The ones who tried to get out had to sneak out by planning. It was really sad and scary. These young people are brainwashed. It is very sad. You and your wife did an amazing job. She is a natural.

that is why RICO is so important. Ok I think this was a good idea that didn’t really work.. it would have been better if you had watched the documentary together and then had a discussion.. now it’s you making judgements based on what your wife is telling you and pressing her on specific questions. It’s not that productive! And for viewers/listeners who aren’t aware of this situation it gets really hard to follow.
