Does the Mop Fly really work? || Trout at Tingley Beach in Albuquerque

I had fished Tingley Beach about 10 times and only caught 1 fish - so, naturally, I had given up going there. Until I heard about the "Mop Fly". Supposedly it's like crack for trout. So, naturally, I had to try it out!

The mop fly was the most productive fly I used last year. Chartreuse mop with peacock ice dub collar on a beaded hook. Rainbow trout and perch in the lake I fish. The rainbows take it either from the bottom or under an indicator, the perch when I cast and retrieve.

Great video. Try the non slip loop knot to your streamers and mop flies. You’ll see a big difference in the way it moves and your knot strength.

Someones going to be missing a hair clip later😂 That's the first time I've seen that but it's a great idea for holding a broken down rod together in the car while moving spots. Cool to see you're in Albuquerque. I live up in Durango CO....a fly fishing Mecca😂 Never tried this mop fly but I'm about to order some. Looks like someone cut up one of those hand mitts for washing cars and tied it to a hook.

The hair clip works awesome. Try it out! Yeah - the mop fly is a funky thing. It's totally made from those mitts and/or floor dusting mops. Easy to make and they do tend to work in some situations. I had to tie some and try them when I saw a NM fishing report that showed a lady holding a large brown she pulled out of a local lake using a "Mop fly". I was like, "what is this mop fly thing?" Had never heard of it! lol

I think I fished there with no success. Those fish are fished hard; that fly was super effective.

yeah - I think when we fished it we had little to no success. But with this fly I had my first fish in about 3 - 5 minutes. Landed 2, lost at least 2 more (with the flies getting lost as well). Now I have about 10 of these flies.
