Bring back hand checking. The defense is utterly abysmal. Players should not be getting their ankles broken like this. This would not have happened 10 to 15 years ago or even in the mid-to-late 90s.

Officiating sucks. Travels carries, Euro steps, tick tack fouls. Uhhh. Here's an out of the box idea for you. Try this at the All-Star game. There are three key areas on offensive side of half court. Inside the key above the three-point line in the area outside of the key below the 3-point line. Therefore have three different areas which are designated one two and three points. Here's the kicker. The shot clock is 24 seconds and can be divided by 12 8 6 4 and 3 seconds. For every one of these fractions of the shot clock that lapses you change the area how many points are designated. In other words you can have a traditional 3-point shot be worth one and something in the key worth three points. So there are nine configurations that the court could take. And four different shot clock combinations. Post play can be brought back you have the chance of more 4 point plays at the basket. The shot clock segments will be implemented either randomly for possession or they will be designated so that each combination is used for each quarter of the game. They will not be activated until the offensive team crosses half court half quart to the basket that they are attempting to score at, and in the last 2 minutes of the game traditional rules will apply. You could also add in a small area that says and one which allows for a foul shot if the basket is made. No we do not want to turn this into MTV's version of basketball with a 25 point and50 point basket. Let's not go nuts.

See "the evolution of the rules" for video evidence how the past rules of the game are being blurred or ignored to give the players on offense a huge advantage. Just the extra steps = traveling violations that are not called are outrageous. Add to this the palming, carrying and having the players on offense "rip-through" any contact and drawing fouls have essentially ruined the fluid game that used to exist IMO.

It’s really all about spacing, the paint isn’t clogged anymore the 3 point revolution has opened up the paint which means players don’t have to go through 2 or 3 bodies to get a layup, the defenders aren’t any worse the job is just harder to do now.

I would change the rules to help the defense maybe get rid of defensive 3 seconds, maybe if the offensive player runs the defender over it should be an offensive foul.

Widen the court so the 3 line is the same distance all around, no more defensive 3 seconds, no more bait fouls if you pump fake and then jump into the guy it should be a no call you should be trying to score not trying to draw a foul.

What if you made corner 3s with 2.5 points or 2 points ..... Forcing players to have to go to the paint or shoot from base ..... And allow handchecking only in the Paint and change 3 sec violation to 5 4 or 5 secs in the paint .... Hire a extra Ref for new rules until ppl get used to it

You forgot to mention players like Ben Simmons, draymond green, boban, and the lack of defensive paint presence that was elite in the 80s and 90s. The game just seems watered down and no fun to watch
