It is really hard to get rid of G400 LST. It is such an easy to hit low spinning driver. I play mine at 7.9 degrees of loft with Oban Devotion shaft. It really helped me reducing spin while I get a really nice low trajectory. Waiting for G400LST Vs G425 Max... thanks Michael!

I'd like to see you get fitted for the G425. There might be more in there that you haven't tapped into yet. If you aren't able to get anything more out of it then I'd say save your money. The sound shouldn't be an issue though. We all know there are easy ways to change the acoustics of a driver!

Thanks Mike. With COR being capped for the past several years it is no wonder that manufacturer's are unable to make clubs that are noticeably better than what they made a few years ago.

Exactly the same for me. Flitted between drivers for years but have had the G400 in the bag for 2 yrs, most forgiving club ever. Looking forward to trying the G425 max

If you want something shiny and new by all means one of the nicest looking drivers out there. You did say dispersion was one of your key criteria points I’m guessing the max will suit you much better or a little higher spin should help that accuracy either through settings, shaft, club head. Have fun testing. I like 2500 spin for myself our swing speeds are similar.

All drivers are on the legal limits. But manufacturers still claiming new clubs are longer and faster ball speeds.. if that was the case golfers should be hitting it 500yrds by now after years of these claims. The new ball technology has gained us more distance. Instead of Spending the money on a new driver, spending it on lessons will improve your distance more and make you enjoy your game more..Great video again!!!

I'm finally upgrading from my G30 driver to the G425 Max. Whilst I really like the new driver, I still really find it hard to justify the upgrade as the G30 is also so consistent and I still love it. Will never sell it.

I was gaming the 400max. I got a 425lst from Australia a few weeks ago. It is a beast! Very neutral flight! 1800-2100 spin for me on the launch monitor.

I use the 400 lst also, but I cannot find my swing with it yet. Have 300 dollars plus in it. Went with softer shaft and larger grip, Wish me luck!

I can't remember where exactly I read or heard this, but manufacturers like Ping can generally engineer something that performs better if it doesn't have adjustable weights. Essentially, the less adjustable a driver or fairway wood is, the more they can really optimize the performance in a neutral setting. Club fitters and amateurs tend to prefer the adjustability for good reason, but most amateurs I know never mess with the weight tracks. I wonder if this is why the G400 still pretty much outperforms the g425. You give up a little optimization for adjustability.

With all the testing of these, and the irons, it seems Ping have simply recovered the performance they gave up when they replaced the G400 range with the G410. My G410+ is the best driver I've ever owned but I think the G400 and now G425 both seem to outshine it somewhat.

I had the g410 and I got a g400 max after hitting my friends it was soooo insanely forgiving. only been golfing a season and a half but for some reason I just keep it in going straight so much more often with the g400 max

Heav vs head with same shafts with same specs not going to see much difference in distance. Everything's been "MAX"ed out for years. The difference and game changer will be forgiveness and dispersion. So I was not surprised by your distance results. I'd upgrade if I hit another fairway or two per round. I LOVE my G410 LST combo and am definitely looking forward to the G425 MAX.

I still absolutely crush my I20 w/ stock shaft. Would probably look to g400 before I even considered 425 because Im not a fan of adjustable weighting and don’t particularly want to pay for it atm. Ping drivers and woods hold up so good it’s unbelievable.

I’d be interested in seeing the weight from the LST being put into the MAX driver head. Does that knock a touch of spin off, but maintain some of the forgiveness with the bigger head...?

Stay with the 400 matey lot of money for two yards of differenceadmitted dispersion tighter but I'd put that down to you concentrated more with the 425 as it was new and you weren't used to it where you were free swinging with the 400 as you were used to it possibly cheers tho mike interesting

Bottom line it's not worth the $$ to purchase the G 425 if you have G 400. The technology is good only if you have clubs that are like 5 to 10 years old. At least you know that G 400 is very good and the technology basically has been maxed out. What ping should do is give good incentives if you are trading in older ping clubs

Been waiting for this video knowing mike played the 400 for so long. Mike, can you also do a quick video with the g425 in the “flat, -1*” setting. I’ve watched enough to know you like a penetrating ball flight and hate the right miss, both of which would be mitigated with the “flat, -1*” setting.

May splurge on the 3 fairway metal vs spending $$ on the driver. I have the G 20 driver and my score is not going to change with the G 425. But I believe the fairway metals might help. Will have to get fitted to see if it's worth spending $$

I understand the purpose of the video is to compare the two drivers - but I am curious if you have moved to a shorter driver. I have been previewing videos on the benefits of using a shorter shaft in the driver. I was watching one that you made in 2017 - where you compared a 45 1/2 inch shaft to a 44-inch shaft. The results you had really favored the shorter shaft. Fast forward to today - and you mention that you were just fitted for a 44 3/4 inch shaft.

No brainer really Mike, apart from being longer with the 400, the sound is much better with it. Actually nice to see a review whereby you know if you have the slightly older model you are not missing out....In my own very humble opinion I believe drivers have reached their basic max with the COR regs... Get the right shaft fitted and your cooking with gas

O know you had this review a long time ago. I have a 425 LST but recently hit a 400 LST and I could tell no difference... the 400 even sounded better. Do you still have the 400 or did you move on? I encourage others to buy the 400 and save money.

You said it right I would go from driver to driver and tinker one did better then I would start missing it now with the G400MAX I just point and shoot. Now is wish there was a test 400 max Vs 425 max then would it be work me switching also

I wouldn't think this pleases Ping at all. G400 LST producing 2 MPH more was surprising to me (even if the 425 seemed to have better dispersion). Did you also put your G400 LST up against the G410 LST at the last release cycle?

The G400 held it's own vs the G425. And I don't think there was that huge a difference in dispersion. Take out the 1 G400 shot that went left and the dispersion is pretty much equal. Enjoyed the video! Hope you decide to do a video comparing the G425 MAX vs G400 LST.

Regret going from 400 to 410. Prefer looks, sound and performance with only movable weight options going for the 410... Gaming the Z785 now and did a head to head with 425...Srixon won..

You swung the 425 faster at 111.6mph versus 111.4mph but you had less ball speed 161.2 versus 163.1 so I think there are gains to be had by looking at strike location on the driver's face and trying to find a shaft that works better for you to better find and time the center of the face - because that seems to be the difference. I also think that you could use the head's higher MOI to your advantage and experiment with a 45.25" length shaft which is where you see many Pros moving to, from 45, to gain another mph

Love my G400LST too Michael. (btw hoping that consistent parp noise on your backswing is your shoes? I have a pair that do that ! V useful after a night out on the sauce as a cover sound for the accidental real thing .🤔 ) 👞 Ace review .. and seeing as I dropped the G410 in favor of G400. Think I will stick with what I have 👍

Had 2 cracks on the toe of my g400 a few days ago. Called ping, had to take it to a certified ping rep for them to ship it back. Said they would replace, or upgrade to a 410 or a 425. Don't know what I'll get credited if i upgrade. Waiting 4 the call back.

stanimal22 Ping offered to replace with like for like, however for a $70 AUD changeover I can upgrade to the 425 so went with that option. Hope you have the same success

Distance differences could be because 9.0 Vs 8.5 and the shafts but overall dispersion shows the difference

The only reason the G400 LST had a bigger front to back dispersion was that you bombed three shots. I can't understand why front to back dispersion matters with a driver as long as you aren't seeing shots falling short. If the driver hits average shots as long as other drivers but bombs pure hits, that is not a bad thing. As for the side to side dispersion, each driver looked to hit all but one shot in a 40 yard wide fairway. The G425 LST was a bit tighter though.

Curious about swingweight on these clubs. 1.46 vs 1.44 isn’t nothing. Was it strike or is the counterbalanced shaft lowering your swingweight and hiring smash factor?

Great video Mike, very surprised how strong the G400 performed considering its 2 generations old ... I suppose for me, in order to change a club in the bag, it has to be that that it out performs the club i'm currently using, looking at the data i'd argue you stay with the G400 unless the Max offers something considerably better performance wise.

I have g400 and 425 both LST. Same shaft in both. The 400 is better for me. Longer and less torque even though same shaft.

Interesting that 15 of 40 players at Sentry Tournament last week played Ping drivers, and that Harris English played a G400. Seems to me that new drivers are largely about cosmetics, and making you feel like a heel because you don't have the latest model. You are unlikely to get a massive leap in performance. Maybe Ping have the right idea - make good better, rather than heroically claim massive distance or performance improvements. The G410 currently in use goes well, and may only change because I don't have the latest model!!
