Hi Jason, just a quick note of thanks and encouragement for what you do. I just got a Tonex pedal last weekend and would have been lost not to mention probably returning the item if it wasn't for yourself and a few others in the RU-vid community. Videos on things like how to adjust the trim input for the best sound and navigating around the UI have been a huge help. Not to mention the sound of the premium captures vs shipped presets being a huge game changer for me and easily swayed me to keep the product. But not only with Tonex, I started watching your videos a few years back when I got a Pod Go. Your delivery style and positivity shine through and I big time appreciate it. Keep up the great work!

Outstanding analysis, demo, and explanation on how to set the ToneX Software and Pedal so they sound the same. Love the tones you're getting. Awesome for ToneX users.

Took me a while to get my levels sorted but once done I’ve found the app and pedal do sound the same, those discrepancies in listening volume tend to convince you that one sounds different. Great video as always, 👍

THANK YOU FOR SHARING ! Your tonex videos are the most useful tonex videos in the world (hello IK ! ). But could you give us an advice from other perspective. And it's highly demanded across all discussion platforms. It's not a big deal to match sound of tonex software with pedal. You just twist the knob on pedal or in your DAW until they are the same. But the REAL problem is BEFORE this issue. It doesn't matter how close your software to your pedal if both sound "meh" :). What if I have some exotic amp in tonex i've NEVER experienced nor in real life neither in videos/records ? Some exotic Budda SuperDrive, Carr or ancient Supro or whatever ? This is the whole point of TONEX. To be able to play amps we will never be able to afford or meet IRL. I just explore for inspiration. I click the amps in the list and it sounds "meh"... But what if it sounds wrong because of incorrect input level in DAW/settings (were inaccurately captured or captured before tonex input gain fix etc). May be this is the best amp in the world I've been looking for. But I just missed it because I had no idea how it MEANT to be sounding ? Real amps and pedal itself _expect_ guitar-level input signal and they are pre-calibrated for this (and their internal behaviour _also). But audio-interfaces definitely made not only for guitars and you might just guess you're hitting the tone model with right amount of gain _used by creator_ while captured. But is there any way to check it if tone-model creators didn't mentioned this ? I usually play built-in audio samples in tonex as a reference point. And then I rise/dimm input level until I have at least similar response from my guitar on that particular tone mode. But I just hope tone-model creators take them (build-in samples) into account. But what if they're NOT ? Is there any way to find out what is "meant to be used" input level ? How to know this model sound "right" in software ? Otherwise it doesn't matter how it sounds in pedal and how they match :)

Is there a setting for tail in the TONEX Pedal if not i think a future update with that feature would be great as i am sure that many players would like a tail setting in millisecond . if i am playing a metal preset and i click to a clean preset or vise versa the change is instant and that is great no noticeable latency but having a tail option would blend preset changes into each other and would sound much more pleasing and natural than the instant change with no tail.

Thanks for this video. I'm curious if you hear a difference in the sound when using the pedal in interface mode and outputting to headphones vs using the pedal in live mode into an interface. Less so the software or capture sound, but rather if the pedal colors the sound. When playing an mp3, it seems like they sound different through the pedal to me.

Hi Jason, ive used the stock presets for quite some time but am wanting to use the software and look at what captures are out there. One point of confusion I have is the ability to change the amps and cabs right on the pedal. If I change an amp to the "english" setting, is that just a stock capture IK did of a marshall style amp that just always sits on the pedals memory? It's like i could take any preset on the pedal and build my own from the ground up by picking an amp and cab, but I want to make sure I'm understanding this correctly. PS the tone packs sound great, will be looking through them to support the channel.

Jason, I asked a.i this very same question a few days ago and it said..."Tonex guitar plugins and the Tonex pedal are two different products designed to achieve similar results but through different means. The Tonex pedal is a physical hardware effects pedal that processes the guitar signal in real-time, altering its tone and sound as it passes through the pedal’s circuitry. On the other hand, Tonex guitar plugins are software-based effects that run on a computer or digital audio workstation (DAW) to simulate the sound of various guitar pedals and amplifiers. While both the Tonex pedal and Tonex guitar plugins aim to provide users with a wide range of tonal options and effects for their guitars, they inherently differ in their implementation and sound characteristics. The Tonex pedal’s analog circuitry and components can impart a unique warmth, coloration, and responsiveness to the guitar signal that may not be fully replicated by digital simulations in guitar plugins. Conversely, Tonex guitar plugins offer the convenience of digital processing, allowing for easy recall of presets, extensive parameter tweaking, and integration within a DAW environment. Ultimately, the choice between using a Tonex pedal or Tonex guitar plugins comes down to personal preference, workflow considerations, and desired sonic outcomes. Some players may prefer the tactile feel and immediate control offered by a physical pedal, while others may appreciate the flexibility and versatility of software plugins. In conclusion, while both the Tonex pedal and Tonex guitar plugins serve as tools for shaping guitar tones and effects, they each have distinct sonic characteristics due to their analog versus digital nature."

@@JasonSadites I believe that both you and the a.i are correct to a certain extent but this leaves me a bit confused. I have the Tonex software and I was thinking about buying the pedal but if they sound exactly the same as a home player I would only be wasting my money?

Hi Jason, Great videos. I just got this amazing pedal. Do you think using it as an audio interface is better in terms of sound quality and noise than using it connected to my audio interface? This would be easier as I will not have to change the monitors cables every time. My question is how to then gain stage the pedal into the interface? Just using the imput gain of the interface, or should I tweak the pedal output as well? Thanks.
@JasonSadites
@JasonSadites 2 месяца назад
Thank you! I would just use it straight into your audio interface as you will likely hear almost no perceptible difference in sound quality. You can simply adjust the input level on your audio interface to get it to an appropriate level. Hope that helps :-)

Is it possible that the pedal upsamples internally? If it wouldn´t analog pedals should lead to hefty aliasing. Would you mind doing a sweeping test with a reamped sine wave ?

Can you do a null test to see if they are the same? I can hear that my pedal sounds brighter going into the same interface. Maybe it’s bc I have buffered effects pedals on my board too? Idk
@JasonSadites
@JasonSadites 6 месяцев назад
Unfortunately in this case a null test won't tell you much of anything. The simple fact that Tonex Pedal is going through extra series of conversion will kill any chance of a null test working if they do sound identical.

Thanks for the video! How do you measure what the input level is on your audio interface? Does your have a digital readout or something? I just have a twist knob and a meter with no actual units on my Motu M4. Lol. Just shows clipping when it hits red.

@marcohermans3207
@marcohermans3207 6 месяцев назад
@Sea_Jay, I have also I Motu M4 and already did the calibration according Jason his specs a few weeks ago. Your input gain will be between 8 and 9 O clock then. Sometimes I'll have to boost the IK multimedia captures by 8.6 db to sound right. It's not easy to get info from the people or some third party vendors with what levels they captured. Luckily Jason did.

Hi Jason, ¿If I set my interface to 0 gain, which is equivalent to 12.5 dBu, would it be the same as 0 input trim on the pedal?
@JasonSadites
@JasonSadites 6 месяцев назад
Hi, to match that on the pedal you would need to set the global input trim to -4.5. Hope that helps :-)
