Your videos are GREAT!!!! I don't see that you have made any videos in almost a year. Would love to see videos on water Kefir, your take on low carb, a day in the life of DT, what DT eats in a day, if you have ever made a SCOBY from a bottle of GT Kombucha and how you did that, how you deal with different temperatures - winter vs summer......I could go on and on!!!!!! Hope all is well!

Julie Brogren Thank you SO much. My life has been totally crazy!!! I am gearing up to start up again and very excited about it. I also Will be talking about the things I’ve been through and the healing that has occurred. Over all health is way more involved than what we put in our mouths. Thanks for the encouragement!!! 💜

That was great you are good at this! the first time i saw your video it was the" jun start to finish" and I thought you do a better job then most at making a tutorial so i said that you were gonna be my kombucha girl because of the professionalism that you display and of course you are such a looker that if you were explaining about designing lamp covers" I would watch you just remember to always check your volume before uploading videos, to be honest, i usually don't ask for correction i just don't visit their channel anymore because there are so many people doing similar videos why not go to someone that has their s#*t together

Great video, thanks! Can you use Yerba mate with a Jun SCOBY?
@DTWellness
@DTWellness 5 лет назад
gale faundez It’s usually made with green tea, but you can do whatever you want. Make it yours! I would keep that SCOBY separate. 😉

Hey, another southerner! 😊 Do you have a video on how to brew kombucha without a starter AND without a SCOBY? I'm not able to spend money on those, but 🍵 really 🍵 want to begin brewing some bucha. And, do you know whether organic chai tea can be used?

Michelle Glashower I don’t. I should probably make one. So this is what you do to make your own SCOBY & starter at home: Needed •2 cups filtered water •black tea bag •1/4 cup sugar •1 bottle of plain (non flavored) black or green tea kombucha 1.Brew 2 cups of black tea and add in 1/4 cup sugar, dissolve and cool. Remove tea bag. 2. As tea is brewing and cooling take out the bottle of kombucha and let it come to room temperature. 3. When EVERYTHING is at room temp, add 1/2 bottle of Kombucha. 4. Pour mixture into 2 pint jars cover each w/ coffee filter, secure w/ rubber band. 5. Put jars in a dark cabinet or closet- preferably the warmest room in your home. 6. Have patients. I can’t tell you how long it will take for this process to take. Check it in a week. If it’s beginning to develop a film on top you’re in your way to 2 new babies 😁

@@DTWellness Thank you! 💚😊 Can I use chai tea?
@DTWellness
@DTWellness 5 лет назад
Michelle Glashower Nope. Plain only. Chai tea has cinnamon & clove in it which is antibacterial. It may kill your bacteria and your Scoby will not form.

Where do you purchase the tea? Also I noticed the wide handled funnel you were using. Does it have a strainer in it like your metal one did and where did you purchase it? I absolutely love your videos. Because of you I have a batch of Jun brewing right now and I had given up on brewing kombucha because I messed it up so many times. You motivated me to try again. Thanks so much!

Thats great! I would encourage you to try kombucha again. It is every bit as easy as brewing Jun. I will be here to guide you and answer any questions you may have. Its hard if you try to be taught by ten different people, because everybody is going to say something different. I can make you successful with brewing kombucha ;) I buy my Yerba mate from either Whole Foods or Harris Teeter. My plastic funnel does not have a strainer in it and I purchased it from Ikea. Love that store!!

DT Wellness Thanks for being willing to help I just got another kombucha Scoby I will be trying your recipe for flavorful Kombucha. My problem is my house is always cold and the tea will not ferment. The last Scoby I had turned moldy but never fermented the tea. Any advice you have to give on kombucha brewing in a cold house I would love to hear. Thanks for your help!😀
@DTWellness
@DTWellness 6 лет назад
mrskimwilliams this might sound crazy, but if I need my brew to ferment faster I put it in the microwave. Lol not what you think. I have a microwave over my stove-I never use it. I put a hand towel in the bottom and turn the light on low. The light isn’t in the microwave itself. It’s under it to provide light to the stove top. It produces enough heat inside the box to cut my fermentation time in half. If your kitchen is set up like mine, then that’s a solution. Just curious, how cold is it in your house?

DT Wellness My house stays in the lower 60’s and I don’t have an over the range microwave. Could I use something like a heating pad?

mrskimwilliams You sure can, just make sure it doesn’t get too warm.

I am very new to the idea of making my own Kombucha. I hear everyone talking about using filtered water. My guess, is do to additives from city water? I have well water, will I still need to filter the water? I’m hoping to get my starter supplies for Christmas!!
@DTWellness
@DTWellness 5 лет назад
Michael Patterson Well water is fine, it just depends on how OCD you are about it. I previously distilled my well water for Kombucha, but I’m back to using it right out of tap. And yes, the fluoride and chlorine in the city water need to be avoided when making Kombucha.

I have hard well water, so I still filter it. Plus, I found out my ex nextdoor neighbor was bleaching our backyard (our properties are close, so any bleach in the ground near us = bleach in our ground).
@psalm23sheepdog

Michelle Glashower , bleach!! Why? Did he have a swimming pool? So far, I’ve been very successful making Kombucha. My well water is hard also, but I couldn’t say how hard?? I do have a water softener, and still produce good Kombucha now that DT Wellness has helped me through a couple of snags!
@michelleglashower2058

@@psalm23sheepdog No. It was to keep the insect population down cuz we live almost in a marsh/swampy area. Lotta standing water. It sure was effective! But yikes! Mine is hard enough to clog the shower 🚿 holes within a couple months of cleaning. 😲
@DTWellness
@DTWellness 5 лет назад
Michelle Glashower I’d continue to filter and carry on. 😉 You can get a water softener head for your shower. Check out Waterwise.com.

Why are you discarding your SCOBY in this instance? Because of the flavor of the tea?
@DTWellness
@DTWellness 6 лет назад
Danielle Thibeault I only keep the SCOBY’s from Camellia sinensis plant, that ensures a healthy SCOBY and a healthy brew. I have so many SCOBY’s I can afford to use them one time for special teas. I have since started a Yerba Maté SCOBY hotel, but haven’t used any out of it yet.
