I have played dofus since 2006 and spent around a decade playing it, and it honestly ruined my taste for mmorpgs as I'm unable to play any of them even thought I'm a huge video game enthusiast, seeing this video brought me so much joy knowing some other people will discover this hidden gem
i played at launch and tried getting into it a couple years later, and later still wakfu. Honestly the grind is just too much, I know there were ways to get increased XP but I didnt like the fact that the XP necessary to level up is always double the amount from the previous level. Might be different now though
Played Dofus on 1.29 till 2.1 versions. I think my biggest problem is this game was p2p after reaching level 30. Dunno if it still like that, but that made me quitting the game.
Much like Wakfu (the show) and other games they've made, I'd say it's poor marketing. Ankama has some bangers, but their marketing outside of France has been garbage. I didn't know wakfu season 4 came out until a few weeks ago
Its simple really. Only does advertisment in french. French only. The best it did universally was miniclip. Ive seen in my entire gamingphase only once dofus ad, which wasnt on TV. It was a small gift in cereals as CD You got a exclusive shield which became ages later free purchaseable shield in-ingame shop. Never heard about it ever again. Also the community in itself made this game prett unbearable to play to. Because unlike in Runescape, the community felt grinding as a chore and wanted to make money of every piece of item and for the actual gameplay which is doing dungeons. Like this is sole reason why dofus allowed multiaccounting because nobody wants to play togheter. If you want you can call this is badfuture of MMORPG.
@@ItsJustKaya now that you mention it I actually remember a friend showing me doing a 8vs8 fight once, him against another dude who also had 8 accounts. I mean...why?
This video brought me back a ton of great memories, thanks for making it I used to be an Aniripsa and I would get mad cause my HEALER could barely deal damage lmao, I was too young when I played a ton of Dofus
You would be surprise with updated over the years. You can now make your Eni and hard hitter. Maybe not the hardest but you can adjust its stats with gear to push more into damage instead of heals
It is missing for sure mentioning that you can buy a subscription with in game currency. But not to worry, I possibly will try my best to cover it for the people that are interested in the game (soon). Interesting video.
After the Dofus to Unity update promised, with new animations, high quality, and better performance, I hope this game grows to be really big. I'll deffinitely come back once that update comes, hopefully 2024
I used to play this back in the day when I was... 12? I'm 29 now and this game recently came to my mind after I've decided I need a new game to sink many hours into, so I am very thankful for this video to see, if it is worth going back after all these years!
What the heck that's exactly what happend to me, I just turned 29! It's my secret game I play that none of my friends know about😂. There's just a timeless appeal to dofus/ wakfu that is so relaxing.
This game was literally my friend and I shildhood, we loved it, so far the only game that have such an strategic fight metodology, I went high lvls on many acounts and despite the fact that I liked the video and most of the dungeons bosses do looks and feels the same, is certanly not always like that there is many crazy bosses that put you to think on how to beat them and is not a matter of power but strategy, that I love, thanks for the video, I will start playing againg.
One of the best puns is "Ouginak", which can be inverted for "Canigou". Canigou is a french brand of dog food can. I don't know if the puns are as good in english than in french, being a french player, but it's one of the best part of the game. Sometimes I read for the 100th time the name of an item, and I suddently understand it, and it never fails to make me smile. Oh and the endgame is a rough but enjoyable challenge, and KTA (the PVP but with the championship rules) is a very impressive chess game. But let's be honnest, what we love the most is the economy and becoming rich.
There are so many details in this game. You could make an entire series on the magus (maging) aspect of that game... let alonge the story and end game content (infinite dreams).
Honestly, I loved Dofus so much when I was still in school. So many sleepless nights and summers spent grinding away in BR dungeon It broke my heart when I hated the graphic update after 1.29(?)
@@VagrantVideos my brother, I am STILL maintaining friendships that happened in Dofus from nearly 15 years ago (shout out to Rushu server, and anyone who chilled at the Eca statue) I'll never forget all the friends and people I met because of a game I played in middle/high school. Especially since they're just a Facebook/IG message away
dofus is one of those games where the grind can be extremely fun/worth it and also extremely frustrating. from lv 1-100 the grind can be really fun. around lv150 new people start discovering their endgame builds. when you get to 200 that's when the game really starts. most dofus that give you the good stats you'll be lv 200 for. if you lvl up your professions, make money... you can farm your endgame gear after your starter 200 gear. there's also an entirely different route that some people end up in. dump $50-$100 into orgrines, exchange it for kamas, pay for power lvl, and dump all your stats into wisdom, buying the best wisdom gear as your lvling to get to 200 very quick. after 200 dump another $100-$200 into ogrines for kamas, and buy all your gear. of course if you don't know how to setbuild or use the class you play then you're going to hate it. That said. Dofus is probably has the best diversity when it comes to stat building and building your character. i'd say each of the 19 classes all have about 5-6 (some more) different builds and sub builds that all cater to different playstyles and play very similar yet extremely different. Sadidia for example can be built to completely immobilize enemy with their -MP/-AP spells; summon build (has a summon that can do like 5k at max dmg); Tank/self heal with chance and infect sadidia can basically get down to 1% hp and heal back to 100% while being the main source of dmg (provided theres more than 1 target alive). some classes even have domino effects and some build around pushing your target into walls (to avoid dealing with their resistance) which is really only a pvp thing that can 1 turn people. if theres a playstyle, dofus have it, class? dofus has it or atleast some form of it.
i believe it has a in-game to premium currency conversion, if you grind enough or if someone gives you the in-game money, you can buy the subscription and not pay anything.
You should mention as well that the subsciption is earnable trough the ingame currency where you trade kamas for ogrines which can be used to subscribe basically for free
Also, at a certain point, you can begin to earn enough money in game to pay for a paid subscription. Which, of course, makes the game even more affordable. It's quite nice.
Great Video, but i want to correct on a couple of things. Im playing Dofus since 2010,every other mmo couldn't give me the same as dofus did, even WoW,not even nearly as good as Dofus. About the Dungeons, the mobs inside the dungeons, like any other mmo r based on the area u r in,so i can't see what is the problem;also, the dungeons r not as easy as u think,u r playing tutorial dungeons basically withoud mechanichs, but for example, when they remade "Pandala" which is an island,i struggle at a dungeon 140 as a lvl 200,n we were 2,we wiped like 4times before actually doing it,so it not easy at all,n unlike wow,the endgame content released in 2004 is still worth doing,so u never lack of content. About sub,u have to pay the 1st one atleast, but after that just do treasure hunt, like 5 a day n u should be able to pay it with kamas (game value) only. Im glad u talked about this gem wich i love, but is an mmo,n the best one i have ever played,so u cant cover it in only 2weeks on playing it,especially becuase mmos should be based on end game,n dofus does it so fk well.
If I can’t cover something within 2 weeks then the video would never be made. It’s not a full on review it’s just a video covering everything the game has to offer than may entice those who were on the fence to jump in.
Im sorry, seems i didnt expressed myself well. I wasnt criticizing at all,as i said u did a great video, tho, since u played only 2 weeks u cant cover all of it obv,so i just wanted to point out a couple of things that u missed. Anyway every mmo should be judged mainly on the endgame,i get isnt a review but atleast you should look to some "core" bosses to understand how dungeon works,n there r more type of dungeons,is not only a "kill room,go next, kill room go next till boss",n this is the same for quest, especially the main one.
I think there may be a confusion on houses and crafting benches/decor. You cannot change the layout of houses and place crafting benches. They either come with them or they don't. most have 1-2 chests. Some that do have benches usually just have 1-2 for a single profession. There are only a couple in the game that come with many. This includes the breeder village mansion in koalak mountain/lake and the snowbound village mansion.
This is stupid. I keep creating an account and it routes me to a browser to login. When I login it does not auto route me back to the app. When I click the link below to route me to the app it does not do anything. That is why no one is playing. Your creation or login is rocket science
The old Dofus soundtrack was more memorable than the new one. Of course the new soundtrack sounds more "modern" but they lost some of the soul. So now the music is good, but not incredible, imo. Dofus is still an amazing game and I love the art style. I'd play it more often but I consistently have issues logging into my account (playing from the US).
@@rappersjorsvonstein7379Ankama's latest game. It's still in development but apparently people aren't liking the direction it is taking. The good thing is it's 3D (well, 2.5D), made in Unity with great current rendering features (proper animation system, real time lighting and shadows, high definition textures and mapping, etc.) and a more modern approach to turn-based gameplay. The down side is that the game is still fresh so there is barely any content, apparently Ankama is monetizing it through shop crazy to fund its development and it doesn't feel like a Ankama's game atleast in terms of the universe. I believe that if Ankama plays their cards right they might have the next big title for next decade to come with Waven, they are the kings of turn based fighting.
I am missing for only english communication. I dont play my osa becouse of this language barrier. Mostly people kick you from random groups if you dont speak frog/surrender language.
I played a ton this game..unfortunatelly ankama doesnt care about bots and ilegal kama transfers, so i quit some time agi. Hopefully new port to unity engine will solve botting
If I ever play that game again, it will be on a private server. Played twice in the past and was banned from the game for no reason and their customer support can't give any information about why it happened.
I’m sorry but “all the classes work the same” is a major lie. That might be true for the first 50 lvl of your charature but dofus character options is one of the most unique one in any game. When you get further than 50lvl u start to see how different each class and play style is. I have played several classes and each one brings a new addition to your team and you able to fight different dungeons that other characters groups can’t or would just struggle bc of their play styles. PvP is so unique. In high lvl pvp some players just quit when they see what character the other person is using. Like certain classes play style is so different that it’s a weakness against another class.
Seeing this video 10 months later and see a lot of misinforming things and I'm going to assume its because you haven't really made it to mid game content so I wont bash you for misinforming. Here are some things you've said that i noticed are wrong. First off the game is 100% free to play, and I mean the WHOLE game. With approximately 800kk (800,000 kamas) you can buy a week of sub. A week is plenty of time to get 800kk and more. I've personally grinded out a new account without dropping any money and within a month I managed to rack up 5 million kamas from doing lower level quest and selling tons of recall potions and healing potions. it is a very grindy mmo but once you start playing the game with your brain the game becomes 100% free. PvP isn't just for endgame. Low level pvp is also very popular. People pvp at level 30-60 all the time and it is very competitive. Right now doing pvp can be very profitable if you are trying to maintain a weekly subscription because the top rated pebbles go for about 300kk. Dungeons are by no means a copy paste. Starting from shin larva dungeon and up every boss gains a mechanic that will have you on your toes. The beginning dungeons are meant to be easy to give newer players a slight taste of the game, its meant to make you get cocky so that once you hit a road bump you start to think of what you need to do moving forward. Not a single character in the game is the same as another character. Every character has a different play style than the rest. Sure you can build them with similar sets but you cannot compare an Eliotrope and an Iop. One uses portals to attack from across the map or from angles you wouldn't normally be able to attack from while the other allows you to turn your brain off and hit enemies with big numbers at the risk of you dying. Pair those 2 classes together tho and you have 2 people nuking monsters from across the map. Rogues aren't shit xd Houses are unfortunately useless. Google Translate exist so copy paste peoples messages you dont understand and translate your message to their language. We live in the 21st century... Treasure Hunts came out 10 years ago so nowhere close to recent. The Ebola outbreak was 10 years ago to give you an understanding of how long ago that was. This game currently has no modern anti-cheat so bots run fairly rampant making gathering professions a challenge including mining, but it is still very possible to get what you need. Everything aside from the subscription in the cash shop is 99% pointless to grab because you can buy all of that stuff for wayyyyy cheaper in the markets in game so please do not waste your money on those things. (Again everything in the cash shop including subscription can be bought with kamas via converting your kamas into ogrines) Joining popular guilds discords will make your experience with the game alott easier as those discords most likely have all the resources you could possible need at your disposal. Unity comes out at the end of this year and the beta drops next month along with their anti cheat system so hopefully this game gets alot more attention. Thank you for making a video about this game as i really would like to see more players coming onto the game in the future.
It's sad that you spoke so much about the subscription system vs. F2P, but you didn't even talk about the other in game currency that allows you to pay your subscription through the in game money, basically buying your subscription for free from people buying in game currency with money. This system is the game's greatest strength AND greatest weakness at the same time. It makes the game free to play for real (subscribed zones available without spending a dollar) but it also allows pay-to-win and bots to be subscribed.
Huh couldn’t find anyone talking about it online nor in game. As far as I’m aware there is maybe only a couple of other videos covering Dofus in general so it’s hard to find information in general unless I play the game for months which I’m just not gonna do. Either way the sub is super cheap and worth it but the fact that you can play to earn is nice too.
It's the same game but a newer version. Dofus Retro is a re-release of the Dofus PC version 1.0 (well, 1.29 but still), Dofus Touch is a re-release of the Dofus PC version 2.0 and the current Dofus PC version is the one shown in the video. Dofus Touch is only available on mobile and since the release new content was added that was never part of the Dofus PC game. You can think of Dofus Touch as the company traveling back in time and taking a different approach in the content they've added over the years. As far as Dofus Unity it will be released in Q1 of 2024. It will not introduce new content, it's just a new implementation of the current game in a newer, more modern engine so it runs smoother and can be extended more easily as to add new content more conveniently in the future.
I try to support Ankama in everything they do. I love all their games, so I am sure over the many years I have just accrued some sub time. I do agree though, this game is not expensive at all compared to other subscription games out there. @@VagrantVideos
after 13 years of playing this game , i got banned because one of other family members was using a bot , even with giving enough proof that we are separate players and we share nothing in common i still got banned due to sharing ip . so should u play? it is fun , but you can get banned at any point with the most horrible useless support service
i think its pretty weird to compare a should you play videogame to its sequel, should of titled it as should you play dofus, and how it differs from wakfu
No you should not play this game, Not because it is a bad game, (I played for 10+years with my friends, even with my brothers) But because the company running this game "Ankama" besdies being horrible to their playerbase and disregarding playerbase community feedback , they are a complete mess, just like plenty of Company games, now days, focused on short term "profitability" most of them got bought by investors and are not focused on making games "better" But profitable. I had many instances of racism and condesending responses from their "Help desk" including geting account locked for posting my insatisfaction on of their forums, and just like this comment i'm being objetive w/o being disrespectful. This game 10 years ago was amazing! The balance changes The content addition and further changes made to the game itself The community feedback being taken seriously Etc. Just as Wakfu, just as waven, their gaming model is turning little by little in what we gamers call : Money grab games. As side note: I REALLY WANT TO GO BACK AND PUT IN 200+ HOURS IN THIS GAME PER MONTH, I REALLY REALLY WANT TO, But just as me, many others players suffered the "Little changes" which ruined this game replayability and i don't think it's worh it. Thank you for the video though
I hear tons of stories from people about the games I cover and damn man. Maybe it’s an issue about the service not liking anyone who isn’t French but sucks that happened to you. :(
Remember if something is free then you’re the product, in this case free to play game then developer expect you to spent money in their game. And believe me developer free to play game once they taste your money, they gonna be greedy and doesnt care about community, your gameplay. They only think how you gonna give them more and more money
i dont get why this game even existis when there's already wakfu which looks exactly like this. they call wakfu strategic and dofus tactical.. wow... big difference
I think there are quite a few factors to consider. Wakfu was released in 2012. Yes, the time when Dofus was most popular was in 2009, but there were still many players at that time. It's important to understand that by 2012, Dofus had already been out for 8 years, and players had plenty of time to farm in the game. Many players didn't want to leave behind everything they had accomplished to switch to Wakfu. That's not all, Wakfu at the time of its release was clearly, and by far, not as complete as Dofus. As a result, players preferred to stick with Dofus, which was well-established. Naturally, Wakfu became an excellent game over time, but the damage had already been done. And finally, Wakfu has a gameplay system and graphics that didn't necessarily appeal to many people. Personally, even though I like Dofus a lot, I have a hard time with Wakfu.
