Dr. Lera talks about grape ingestion with Artemis an eleven-month-old Golden Retriever.
While a favorite and healthy snack for people, grapes, raisins and currants can cause kidney failure in dogs. Raisins can commonly be found in combination with other foods, potentially increasing the risk of exposure as compared with grapes and currants. The toxicity concern is the same. Poisoning has occurred in dogs following ingestion of seedless or seeded grape varieties, commercial or homegrown grapes, red or green grapes/raisins, organic or non-organic, and grape pressings from wineries. Foods containing grapes, raisins, and currants (such as raisin bran cereal, trail mix, granola mix, baked goods) are all potential sources of poison. Grape jellies, grape juice and wine do not appear to cause a toxicity concern. (source: VCA Hospitals)

Thanks for the video doc! I had a doggy come in yesterday for grape ingestion. She did great, but we had to decontaminate and support her with fluids.

Doc, I want to share my experience concerning grapes and dogs. I live on a platoe by the Mediterranean coastline. A vine yard / apple / peach orchard. I have 3 Akbash dogs(9 years old) and 2 mongrels (4 years old). My mongrels eat grapes every day when in season (starting from September through October) since they were pups. Figs (falling of trees) and walnuts are in their daily diet. They are slim and very active dogs, no sign, of kidney problems, examining their poops a see grape skins and seeds and fig seeds which are not digested. I also remember many years (in 70's or 80's) ago we used to feed grape sugar powder (sold as veterinary canine dietary supplement) to our dogs. As for the Akbash dogs, they hate grapes, figs, apples, peaches etc. nothing we grow except for walnuts and hazelnuts (that is if I if a clean the shells).

Yes as I've mentioned in the video we don't have all the information on what the actual causes what species of grapes and also which pets will be affected so we assume that all grapes are taught sick unless proven repeatedly

When my dog was 14 weeks she ingested grapes. Immediately took her to the nearest emergency vet who gave her activated charcoal and 2 days of overnight stay with heavy fluids. When looking up how to make a dog vomit, most places says to give small amounts of hydrogen peroxide. The emergency vet said not to do this as it causes acid burns in the esophagus. In a situation where I cant get to a vet, how do I induce vomiting?

It’s actually okay yo give them 3% hydrogen peroxide!!!! But just a teaspoon would be fine. I had to use it to induce vomit in my small dog after he ate a whole subway macadamia cookie. Took 3 minutes and he had puked everything out and was totally fine. Just search up how much you should give your dog

Hey Doc my dog was bitten in his left ear on a walk by street dog. He had small bleeding I washed it with soap water. My dog is well vaccinated. Is there anything more that I should do? Please respond me

You can take him to the vet and have them evaluated. Sometimes there are certain bite ones that I tell clients that don't need treatment. And there are other ones that require surgery. All depends on the client the patient

If you wanted to be proactive you would take her to the vet and have them do blood work and potentially put her on some IV fluids for the next 24 to 48 hours. We don't know which grapes will cause the toxicity and we don't know which dogs will respond. More times than not I've had clients not hospitalize the patients and the patients ended up doing fine. All depends on your situation financially and also on your need for certainty
