I admire the honesty “Neither one of us could drive the car” however going from a 14.69 to 13.40’s is great improvement already. Thanks for taking us along for the ride

That struck me as soon as I saw the video, Ray. But that’s why these guys are on the channel. Nothing to hide here. We learn from our experiences. And we plan to pass on that info

@@stickmansgarage9452 Cool!! Hey Stickman I really like how interactive you are and wanted to give you a heads up. My/our Web Handle is changing to FoMoBro's very soonly. Because my bro Richard and I are teaming up to try and boost our content

Sounds great. Love that handle! Remind me/keep me posted. Life has me going in too many directions right now. Hopefully, serious winter continues to hold off so we can produce content & chip away on Pro Tree Mustang

Fox suspension geometry was designed so it wouldn’t hook and therefore break parts. Changing the rear instant center helps immensely to get these to hook.
@stickmansgarage9452
@stickmansgarage9452 4 года назад
Yes. But then you need to reinforce the car. Because what the suspension is attached to, is at best, a thick beer can
@ConemantheBarbarian
@ConemantheBarbarian 4 года назад
Stick Man's Garage true but repeated hard launches with sticky tires and you’ll be doing that anyway.
@stickmansgarage9452
@stickmansgarage9452 4 года назад
You might be shocked to know my ‘84 (featured in the Stick vs Auto video) has no torque box or mounting point reinforcement. And it leaves hard. Having soft LCA bushings makes that possible. It’s a maintenance item, but an inexpensive one
@ConemantheBarbarian
@ConemantheBarbarian 4 года назад
Stick Man's Garage actually I’m not that shocked. I’ve seen many cars launch fairly hard on stock style bushings. I’ve found it easier to be consistent with relocated pickup points and stiffer bushings. Reinforced pickup points on the body shell isn’t hard to do.

@@stickmansgarage9452 Thick beer can is right. My '89 notch is a one-owner car (me) so I can vouch for the fact that it never had slicks or DRs, never had aftermarket control arms, never had a power adder, and never had any rust. Both rear lower torque boxes still cracked out and had to be welded & reinforced. It's very obvious the chassis design was intended for Fairmonts with 110 horsepower, not aggressively driven Mustangs with multiples of that.

Dont think I have ever seen a 5 speed with a DR. Not at the strip anyways. Have you ever went to the strip with a 5 speed on slicks and stock 28 spline axles?
@stickmansgarage9452
@stickmansgarage9452 4 года назад
We’ve made many passes on 28 spline axles with slicks or soft sidewall bias/ply tires, just not with this car. Factory 28 splines won’t last long if you leave hard (3000+) with good traction. 31 spline axles hold up much better. 5 speed drag radial cars are unusual. It’s tricky getting them to hook over 3500 without adjustable suspension
@bryanroupe8646
@bryanroupe8646 4 года назад
So if I keep it under 3k on my launch I should be ok with a 26x10 slick ? Engine is stock besides explorer intake and the usualt bolt ons, also has a 410 gear. I have taken around 200lb out of the car but I weigh 200lb myself.
@stickmansgarage9452
@stickmansgarage9452 4 года назад
Bryan Roupe No guarantees, but probably. For a while. I hope 🤞 Ultimately, I’d rather see you with any 31 spline axle. No telling what abuse those 28s have seen. Good luck. Let us know how you make out
@bryanroupe8646

I may try a aftermarket 28 spline. I'm not worried about the axle breaking nessassarily. I'm worried about taking my qr panel out lol.

What is a 2 step?
@black88coupe
@black88coupe 4 года назад
From MSD- “MSD's 2-Step Rev Control allows racers to switch to a low rpm limit at the starting line. This digitally-controlled 2-Step Controller connects to the Digital 6AL's gray tach output wire and has (2) rotary dials that let you set the launch rpm in 100 rpm increments. An activation wire connects to the transbrake, a clutch switch or to the line-lock to activate the low rpm limit. When releasing the switch, the low rpm limit is turned off and the car launches hard.”
@stickmansgarage9452
@stickmansgarage9452 4 года назад
^^^What Mitch said Any 2-step will connect to your rev controller, whether built into an ignition box or a stand alone rev control device. Using either rpm chips, or in some cases rotary dials, to vary the rpm the 2-step allows you to launch at a consistent rpm every time (as seen on the tach in the video). Stick car guys typically wire it to their line loc button. With an auto you can use a transbrake button, or if you footbrake (use the brake pedal & throttle simultaneously to stall the convertor) you could wire it to the brake pedal or a separate button

I would check total timing. I have a similar Pro Comp distributor on my 351w except it has an attached HEI module to make it ready-to-run. Out of the box it had a lot of mechanical advance built-in. The distributor can be disassembled with snap ring pliers. There are two metal posts inside that can be bent to limit the total mechanical advance. It looks like I limited the travel about 50% of what it came with out of the box. After bending the posts I still have 20 degrees mechanical advance. I also swapped in some lightweight springs for the heavy stockers while I had it apart.

Thanks for the video and info!!! Hey Neil what’s the weight distribution on your old GT?
@stickmansgarage9452
@stickmansgarage9452 4 года назад
The 84? Typically between 46.5-47.5% depending on whether it’s stick or auto & how much weight I have in the box. It was horrible when the car was in Legal Stocker trim with the 35 lb battery up front. I use Group 27 Deep cycle marine batts (53 lbs & higher) Stick Man’s Motto on Weight: Anything removed from the front should be added to the rear A heavier car with good 50/50 will work better than a lighter car with poor distribution
