Dog Coat Pattern + Sewing Tutorial 

I don't normally reach out to RU-vidrs. I made this pattern for my dog within the last two weeks and it came out superb. I've just been through a horribly traumatic experience when my girl was attacked by a vicious pit bull and didn't make it. My dog, Peaches, was a sweet girl who loved cuddles and stuffed animals. She waited patiently for this coat before every walk for the remainder of her life. I'm so grateful that I could make something just for her, and that she loved it, with the help of your video. I subscribed to your channel because there’s sooooo much I appreciate about your video. I’m a visual learner so when you diagrammed out the coat measurements AND listed what the measurements were, that was super helpful. Also, I am a daily quilter and apply bias tape all the time but have never seen your trick with water and pre-stretching it; that was super helpful, too. I’ll definitely incorporate that into my daily practice. I also don’t have tons of time to wait through someone pinning, sewing & ironing so I also appreciated your zippy & professional production skills. Thank you!

Thank you so much for the pattern. I made one for my for my dog and it came out so good. I just cut it 1/2” more than the pattern, turned it right side out and top stitched all around. It fits him so nice. Again, thank you.

Thank you for this video, I also have a small dog who is in need of a coat for winter, and leftovers from my husbands coat ,looks to be the Go! He walks our dog so I think it will be the envy of other dog walkers when they see the matching coats. I already make all her harness and leads to match each season including Christmas and Easter . Hubby thought it silly at first, then he got lots of good comments from other dog walkers , now he cannot wait for the next one! Lol. It also means that she is never in dirty harness or lead and her skin is healthier for it , our vet was impressed too.our little dog is 15yrs and very healthy.

I loved this video! Thank you for sharing it. Seeing you measure up your little guy really me work out how to size mine. Your bias binding info was easy enough for anyone to try and is a great way to use up old fabric too. The best thing for me was how comfortable that coat will be for the wearer. I am currently working on and 18 doggy days birthday treat for my daughter's 18th birthday and we will be making coats. Oh boy what an adorable baby. I love that coat I usually crochet mine and update my patterns to include harness d ring holes because they don’t come that way. But I’ve been really wanting to make a carhartt look alike dog coat. I think I found a winner! Thank you for posting and showing how well behaved your little guy is. He stood up when you had to put the strap around his chest like he’s used to it. My dogs do that too lol

Great work all around. New to sewing and I thought the video was over by the 5th minute. The time and care you took quilting and adding the bias binding was really cool and made the result much more professional, wonder if there are any other benefits besides aesthetic. First time seeing a serger, would be nice if you had a video on the differences between a serger and a sewing machine or maybe also an ultrasonic sewing machine. I subscribed after watching this video.

Great video--thanks! Just FYI, if you use a 28mm rotary cutter and blade, you will have an easier time cutting your pattern pieces. It's much harder to be accurate cutting sewing patterns using a 45mm blade. 😊

My mom for years was a professional sewer for jansport, Rei, and price worked for some local big time clothing manufacturers here in Washington. And immediately I felt like she was explaining this class to me rite here next to me, you are very clear and precise in what you are relating and quick about it and I didn't have to watch this twice. I'm here because she's super busy with 5 grown kids with older and brand new grandchildren plus she has to work so I didn't even ask for help,why bug when now I have you.needless to say she stop drop and roll to help at a moment's notice as I'm sure you are with your family... I grew up around ceramics and sewing with her and remember quite a bit and I'd say way way more than any man and most novice, but I'm no pro that's for sure but I am and demand the best from myself and those teaching me so I get the best quality possible in hope better than stir bought ..And I consider this product better than any store bought overpriced jacket hands down plus we get to choose the quality of products to be used. I've been in Search and Rescue for over 20yrs now and on my third Search and Find Tracker Pup (Kona) She's 3 z Full cocker spaniel and the best trackers on the planet also the best narcotics dogs as well. Kona is naturally cold,cold from birth and needs warmth all day she sleeps under overs which is so unusual for a dog to be that cold she's also a ring at Bout 16lbs and should be 30 to 35lbs so several pieces of clothing is coming her way now that I have been shown a proper way of thinking about the project and end result and of the way I want it to fit and look. She represents SAR and us as a team. I want her to spook the part and not in some half ass sloppy top everyone else is to lazy to make and I just learned from this video that it isn't going to take not even 1 extra minutes to get the best quality product possible. I'm obviously not my mom or you but I'm can good at what I set to do so I'm holding my self to a higher quality just lk!e what you are saying through your video, plus you've made it simple for the never done it before person to the more experienced that just hasn't made this specific product before .And again thank you for the simplicity and your way of teaching as it makes all the difference in connecting with an audience. Something I'm familiar with too. I teach very technical rescue classes and whitewater rescue to local fire,police, and all other authorities and is my job to teach for their safety but whom every their saving as well so teAching in simplicity is important for connection.... As my review is off topic a touch it has the principal that I want others to know and understand exactly how important you actress in this community and how needed it is.... Other channels are showing off their bad habits, cutting corner, waisted time and passing that along to beginners that otherwise should just plain start here with you and stay put. Cuz now they'll have to relearn and correct all that bad into and I can't stand having to relearn due to finding out that there was a much better easier and more professional product I could have created rite from the start. I personally am more grateful to what my mom taught me when I was young so I can appreciate exactly what your show everyone including myself.... Not happy of the time waisted today but super thankful I waited and found your video because I'm using a windproof, waterproof double sided expensive fleece fabric that will act as a windproof rain coat for Kona girl

Chest and belly coverage are CRUCIAL when choising a coat for your dog whether you're purchasing one or choose to DIY. A dog's chest and belly are the most vulnerable parts on its body as it houses vital organs such as the heart and should have sufficient material to completely cover those areas. This pattern definitely needs some modification to incorporate a much wider band of fabric to cover the chest and tummy areas. Aside from looking so stinking cute in little dog coats and onesies, it's so heartwarming to see a pet parent being so conscientious and caring about their dogs comfort and well-being.
