This dog behaviour assessment shows the rather relaxed Drum as I go about making the best of an enclosed space to assess his behaviour and because it was brought into question, his breed type.
He was originally seized as being suspected as a banned breed under Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 when the owner was under the gaze of the law for other offences.
Although not the finest example of a Pitbull (no disrespect Drum!), he was deemed to have a majority of attributes by both the police and me and so was found to be of type. You can see me making some essential measurements about his body. I also take a number of photographs so that I can work with those post-assessment.
My role as a dog expert witness was to carry out a dog behaviour assessment and what is called 'typing' (to establish the breed type) and to create a report and a short DVD of my time with Drum in the kennels that he was kept in. My duty is to the court in that I am tasked to offer an unbiased and open report, but naturally, I always hope that the dog performs to an acceptable standard so that I can provide a positive report, leading to a desirable outcome for dog and owner.
Drum performed well on the day and I am pleased to say that he was returned to his owner soon after my assessment.
This is a shortened down version of an already edited DVD so that you get a chance to take a quick journey and to see what I saw on the day, albeit a potted version with the less interesting parts removed.
Drum is a well-adjusted dog, that coped very well given the circumstances of being away from his familiar surrounds and owner.
