Electric Dog Fence Q. How to take your dog for a walk through the boundary
An interesting question... When you think we have just trained a dog not to go through an open gate - But, now we need to go for a walk.
Don’t forget our Easter Competition - upload an image and get in the draw.
What to do when you want to take your dog for a walk through the Electric Dog Fence Boundary.
Firstly ensure that the dog is very safe and understands the Boundary Collar.
An interesting article is how to train your dog with boundary flags.

You may want to follow the procedure below but firstly start by driving your dog across the line and getting out of the car on the other side.
This separates the experience in the early stages of training. And also helps the dog understand that is is ‘Walkies’
Follow these steps and gauge how your dog is going - adjust it to suit your dog where needed.
1. First. Take the Dog Fence Collar off the dog… That’s a pretty important step.
2. Establish a routine of putting on a special lead, Collar or Harnes that you use to take the dog for a walk. Get your dog excited about going for a walk.
This is the ‘Magic Walking Lead’ your dog recognises the lead and eventually understands.
3. For Larger Dogs Start by putting the dog in the car and driving across the boundary.
If it is a small dog… then simply pick him up and go across.
You may find that your dog will always run quickly across the boundary and be quite nervous.
When you decide that you don’t need the car anymore… Your dog may even flat out refuse to go through. So be as encouraging as possible.
On returning home reverse the procedure and put the Dog Boundary collar back on.
I have a separate Gate
If you have a gate where you can designate as The Walking Gate - then don’t train the dog at that gateway.
If he goes near that gate when it is closed the collar will activate.
When you follow the procedure above and then you open the gate this will be another indicator that it is ok to go for a walk.
So, it’s about conditioning the dog that we should not leave the property… and then introduce those indicators that tell the dog he can go for a walk under certain circumstances.
