maybe, but I think it's hard to say in advance when it's for an indeterminate amount of time. if you know that it's only for some defined number of weeks or months, it should be easy enough.

No, I couldn't! I always had cats since 50 years: from shelters, two abandoned from my neighbourhood and two plopped up at my appartment and stayed. All of them adult or older. If I start living together with them, we build up a relationship. Maybe I could foster baby kitten but not adult cats...

No. My husband and I have had mostly rescue dogs and when we see the emotional shape they are in, and how happy they get when we show them love, laughter, and fun, we could never pass them on to someone else and have them go through such anxieties all over again. Having said that, we are thankful to folks who dedicate themselves to rescuing pets otherwise abandoned, lost their owners to death, etc. At least they get another chance at happiness.

I ended up with 7. As they passed away over the years I never tried to foster again. I was always broke because of vet bills. Now only one pet for me. Giving them up is too hard.

YES, I'm a failed foster, too. Dang. I ended up with 13. I am down to 8 now. One went to a great home. The others have stayed with me and passed away from cancers and old age. I only want 2 in the end. So much work and $$.... and multiple heartbreak with so many as each one passes in their time. They are worth it. Love them all, miss my babies that are gone. Blessings to all my pups.... and to all who read this.

yeah, I understand the point of fostering, but I think in this particular case the dog is too attached and insecure (would handle rehoming worse than most dogs), and I think the little girl makes for a good excuse to keep the dog, too. the mother doesn't sound like she would handle it well either. foster failing would be better for most dogs individually (they don't want to have to get used to new people again), but with this one more so than most.

found out from link by Geo Beats under video here to check out Smile's story and in maybe March this foster mom said her sister and brother in law adopted Smile. that is best if she could not keep her at least knows she will be loved and cared for and can get videos and photos and updates if does not live close to sister and brother in law. think I would be foster fail but this is next best thing for Smile to me and think this foster mom is glad her sister and brother in law adopted Smile so she can know all about her life. and depending if close enough in distance from each other could see her some times as may be farther away so not often could visit or they come to her home but still would be better than ones if adopted Smile and wont have any real contact with. She is with family but still not as close as her own home but next best I would think.

@@Ass_of_Amalek don’t treat it like they are abandoning the dog though fostering is a real and wonderful thing and there are too many dogs in this country who need it. Fostering means she will take care, see their temperament and then try to fit them with the best home possible. She even said it’s unfortunate but if she kept smiley girl she wouldn’t have room to keep fostering and rescuing these homeless dogs with no where but a shelter to go.

You could keep Smile, and foster other dogs....you would have two of your own dogs. I hope she will be able to handle being adopted again. She looks pretty delicate, and you guys have such a strong connection. Anyway, you should know best...And thank you for being so kind and loving to these dogs who need so much love, after being abused emotionally and physically by humans. It's truly amazing that these dogs can trust humans at all, after what they've been through.....if you don't keep Smile, please make sure she goes to an excellent home!💟

With such a shattered little heart, she found love and trust with your family. Please consider keeping her, she is such a fragile little girl. She loves your daughter. So next best if she could not keep her as foster fail if not too far living from each other will see her or they could come to her home and if farther away she will still get videos and photos and updates from sister I am sure. So she is still in Smile's life.

I could never, ever be a dog foster person - I'd never be able to give them up! Looking at Smiley being such a precious little dog swells my heart with joy and wanting to hug and keep her! It is truly heartbreaking for her, though, to have to leave for another home and feel the insecurity all over again. I do hope she ends up in a wonderful home. My husband and I have always had dogs in our lives - they are such an integral part of our family. Thank you for helping these dogs in need.

It's sad she'll have to start all over again to trust again. The stress placed upon her yet again to prove to her new owners she's worthy of love. I sure hope she gets the best home and family who will be patient and bring out her best. I rescued a dog like Smiley. It's a lot of hard work, takes a lot of time and a lot of patience. I will confess, even after a year I wanted to rehome her, I really did because she was so difficult. Any kind of guidance or even looking at her the wrong way sent her off screaming in fear. But here we are 7 yrs later and she's the sweetest baby girl. Good Luck Smiley.
